The first rays of twilight were beginning to rise behind the dark, eerie trees of the Sunnydale woods.
Footsteps asounded just a few feet away from the eerie forest, crunching
the dried leaves and branches that had fallen from above.
The sun was beginning to rise, the bright rays filtering through
the dead, still, and lifeless trees that cascaded and
Surrounded the forbidden forest when heavy footsteps of Buffy Summers
came closer and closer, almost reaching the weathered
graveyard while she panted heavily for breath.
Already white airy mist began to surround her and the trees all
around, creating an enchanting fairy tale look from long ago.
“You told me I wasn’t suppose to come here,” she whispered to Angel, gazing
directly at his beautiful obsidian eyes that reflected the warm rays of the sun.
A grim, but beautiful smile tugged at his perfect, soft lips in response but all he did was
place that kiss of his on her cheeks tenderly, cupping her face
with both of his warm hands, his lips inches from hers.
Desire and temptation to kiss her passionately
filled his angelic face, the mists of his mint
breath caressing her face like a gentle breeze in the wind.
“Don’t worry amore. You’ll be safe here. They cannot enter where the light shines from the skies above.”
“The sun,” Buffy whispered, nodding her head gently, wrapping her slim olive arms
around his waist, feeling the crushing muscled body of his leaning against hers gently.
“What about you? You cannot walk in the sun yourself.”
A dazzling smile tugged at Angel’s lips once more, filling
with amusement at the question that had tumbled from her lips.
“I am not one of them, mio ragazza bella. Those that belong to the Night cannot walk under the light from the sun because of their eternal devotion to Evil.
I am not one of them. Those that fight for Good can walk under the sunlight and can even eat regular food as well.”
Buffy’s own hazel eyes lit up in surprise, but no word came from her lips.
Her ears picked up another soft, scuttling
sound from just a few feet away from where she stood.
Branches and leaves cackled as a tall shadow loomed before them, hiding
its presence behind a lifeless tree that seemed to lost its beauty.
At once, Buffy’s eyes widen in surprise to see a girl about her age stumbling between the
lifeless trees, her gentle cinnamon brown eyes losing its luster under the glittering sun.
“Buffy?” the tall, slim girl asked puzzily, her chestnut hair sparkling
under the rays of the sun, tendrils swaying in the gentle breeze.
The sound of Buffy’s heart began to pick up at the sight of the girl that stood just a few inches before her, dazed.
This girl that stood before her was one of
the residents who had gone missing just a few days ago.
Rowan Sanders. One of Buffy’s closest friends.
Rowan’s eyes sparkled with a piercing silver glint in them that shone brightly under the sun’s rays.
But glancing at them made Buffy take a step back, crunching the branches from behind.
Instinct told her that this girl wasn’t who she appeared to be.
Danger and tension was surrounding them like a dark aura, filling Buffy with icy cold dread and fear.
Crackles of blackness radiated off the girl’s slim form like a
pair of dark angel wings that shielded her.
The hairs on the back of Buffy’s neck and arms began to rise in
response to the dark aura that was beginning to linger in the forest.
“Be careful. She’s not who she appears to be. Take this,” Angel whispered in her ear, giving her
a silver dagger with ivory intertwined in the handle, sparkling wickedly under the light of the sun.
“What’s wrong? You act like you never seen me before Buff,” Rowan taunted, picking
up a long branch, then snapping it between her fingers.
Buffy clasped the silver dagger tightly around her own fingers, her cold, hazel eyes staring directly at
Rowan’s when she saw the girl cupping her own hands, forming
two black flames that engulfed them with such Dark Power.
She was a witch! A whisper lingered in Buffy’s mind.
*Use the Dagger!* Angel’s voice screamed.
Tears began to pool in the corner of her eyes, then spilled slowly down her flushed cheeks onto a dry leaf.
Instinct took over and Buffy threw the silver dagger directly at
Rowan where it penetrated through her stomach, piercing it
Where tiny drops of blood were beginning to drip, its ruby color sparkling under the light.
She faded like a ghost in the wind.
Buffy whimpered but couldn’t get any words out from her lips. Leaves by where Rowan
once stood rustled and swirled with the cool breeze as if nothing had happened.
“No one truly knows what is behind these disappearances. You’re the only one that knows about what’s really going on,” Angel tried to
comfort Buffy with his warmth, placing soft kisses to her head but to no avail.
“Is that why they’re after me?”
“You’re the only one who knows the truth behind this.”
The hairs on Buffy’s arms began to rise in response to the coldness
of the forest that was increasing each second, tendrils
of ice crystals beginning to form throughout the lifeless trees that surrounded them.
Airy mists gathered in between the trees, blanketing the mysterious mansion that loomed eerily
before Buffy and Angel with such a ominous presence that filled Buffy’s fear in her heart.
Eerie whispers began to gather in full force, whispering
across Buffy’s mind with such sadness in the ghostly voices.
“What’s going on?” Buffy whispered shivery.
“The cries and the whispers are those of the missing residents that are
destined to haunt here for all eternity,” Angel replied gloomily, a shadow covering his obsidian eyes like a smoke shield.
“Why?”
“For failing to perform their duty to the Night Ones. For failing to destroy you.”
Hollowness filled Buffy’s heart that was beating widly against the voices that surrounded
them, crying out their sadness and loneliness for the price they were paying for all eternity.
“*They* thought I knew something about what’s been really going on before all of this happened?” Buffy
questioned,
trying to slow down the fast
beating of her heart, panting heavily for even breath but only tiny
white wisps of air misted around her like phantoms.
“Yes mio amore.”
The haunted voices that surrounded the couple were getting much more closer, the ghostly voices
filling with hollowness and emptiness that only they could feel
under the morning light that glistened around them.
But deep inside, Buffy could feel the same sadness and loneliness
growing deeply in her fear instilled heart.
There had to be a way to set them free but a noise from
behind them interrupted her thoughts in the process.
The whispered ghostly voices of them then became fierce howls of cries for help as if
sensing that something or someone ominous was coming through the forbidden forest.
The icy cold air arround them became even colder as if the temperature had dropped 20 degrees in the last
few seconds, the coldness and dread intermixing with the fear that lay beside in
Buffy’s heart that was only increasing with each second passing by.
Something was coming their way.
“We better get going,” Angel whispered, taking Buffy’s slim hand in his and they took off for the opposite direction.
The airy mists became much more stronger, making it difficult to find a way to escape from the gloomy forest.
Even from there, Buffy could
hear the whispered cries of help from the ghostly visitors
but she ignored their pleas, looking only for a way to escape from
the eerie forest that seem to only be getting more ominous each second.
Heavy footsteps thumped a few feet from behind them before they
could move, crunching the fallen branches and leaves underneath.
Buffy stopped dead in her tracks, not wanting to stir any attention to herself or to Angel.
A tall shadow that was clothed in a maroon cloak was walking
more closer to them as Buffy hid her slim body behind a
tall, lifeless tree, whispers of her breath misting in the air while she tried to controlled
the heavy beating of her heart that was pounding her chest.
The cloak person walked much more closer to her, his evil eyes searching the dark forest
for any signs of a presence that was trespassing the hidden forest.
But the terror that instilled Buffy’s heart increased tremendously with each second that was passing.
She sensed with her eyes closed, the extreme power that radiated from the cloak man like
a very powerful dark aura and the sense of power terrified her to the bone.
She sensed the cloak figure getting closer, and closer…
