Willow had been desperately trying to comfort Buffy when the doorbell rang.
"Xander, can you get that?” she asked as Buffy cried on her shoulder. He nodded and went to the door. Opening it, he saw Giles and Angel standing on the porch, while rain poured down behind them. He motioned them in quickly; Giles stepped in, but Angel continued to stand there.
"Invite him in.” Giles told Xander, who did so, feeling like a fool. Angel heard Buffy crying and raced into Willow’s bedroom.
"What happened?” he demanded, gathering her into his arms. Buffy continued crying like she’d never stop. Willow quickly filled him in about Kathlin’s phone call and what she’d said.
"And when Buffy hung up the phone, she said that Kathlin said she was staying with Spike and then collapsed. I told Xander to call Giles immediately because I thought he could do something."
"Buffy, it’s ok. Everything will be ok. You can stop crying. Shh.” Angel tried to calm the stricken girl with his voice, and it worked. Buffy’s crying slowed, then stopped completely, but she still held tight to Angel. She finally pulled her face away from his jacket and looked at everyone in the room with wide, swollen eyes.
"I don’t know what to do.” she said in a halting voice.
"My biggest enemy has my sister and has seduced her into staying with him and becoming a vampire. I don’t know what I can do if she starts hunting as a vampire. Could I slay her?” Giles looked like he was about to burst with news. Xander noticed this first.
"Giles, why are you looking like the cat that caught the canary in a time of great trouble?” Giles had started rapidly flipping pages in a book he’d brought. When he stopped, he went over and sat down beside Angel, who still had Buffy in his lap.
"Angel, remember how we were talking about Dominique and her half vampire children? Well, this talk reminded me of something strange that I came across, pertaining to her children. It seems that a half vampire child becomes a full vampire, missing one thing, on their 16th birthday.” Willow looked interested.
"Which is?"
"Her demon!” Giles stated simply. Everyone’s eyes went wide, even Angel’s.
"How can that be possible?” he asked incredulously.
"Well it has something to do with the fact that the children have no demon in them when they are born. And when they change over, there is no demon to be released. So basically, Kathlin is a person who can drink blood.”
