A very severely beaten Angel staggered into the library, where Buffy and Giles were still studying the book that contained information on the Chosen One. Buffy gasped when she saw him and at once helped him to lay down on the office’s couch. He was covered in blood and extremely bruised.
"Angel, who…who did this?”, Buffy asked frantically, “And where’s…?"
"Kathlin….gone.” He managed to gasp out.
"Gone? Where?” Buffy didn’t understand any of this What did he mean? “Angel, relax. You’re safe. Now tell me what happened."
"Kathlin..I.. walking…ambushed by vamps…took her. They took her.” Angel was sobbing, something he never did.
"Angel, who?” Just before he lost consciousness, he whispered one word.
"Spike.” Buffy was instantly enraged. It was one thing to beat up her boyfriend, but to kidnap her sister; now he was in major trouble. She started to grab some weapons to attack him, when Giles stopped her. He said softly, “Buffy, it’s sunrise. You don’t know where Spike is and we need to get Angel out of the sunlight. He’ll heal throughout the day, and you need him to show you where Spike is hiding. Just wait.” For some reason, those words, softly spoken, calmed her and she helped Giles move Angel into a safe place, out of sight of students who might come in the library. Then Buffy fell onto the couch and promptly fell asleep.
