A/N I don’t own them yadda yadda yadda. I should really be doing my mediaeval history essay but thought I’d post this instead. Oh yeah please review. This is the first fanfic I’ve ever posted n I kinda want to know if it’s any good.
Buffy sat on the edge of the crater, her legs dangling over a ‘Welcome to Sunnydale’ sign that had fallen in. In the four months she had been away she had realised a lot about herself and her past.
Angel. Yeah he’d definitely been her first love, her true love. And he’d really messed her up. Everyone who had loved her after he had left had never been allowed to get close because they weren’t him. And because they’d walk away. She and Angel were supposed to be soul mates but he’d still walked away. How could she trust anybody else to stay? But she was trapped in a vicious cycle. Because she didn’t trust them they did walk away. Everyone except Spike that is.
Parker. He just screwed her over. She’d fallen for his spiel, been the perfect naïve freshman.
Riley. He had loved her. But she wasn’t in a position to love him back. She couldn’t trust men anymore, she was just waiting for him to mess it up, leave. If she didn’t let him in all the way he couldn’t break her heart. Funny though, he still managed to. She’d only figured out how lucky she was to have him after it was too late, after she’d already pushed him away. But he’d been asking too much. He wanted her to be normal too much. And she had to be strong, her life was falling apart around her, and she still had to be strong. She couldn’t turn to him and break down. Where would that have left Dawn?
Inevitably these thoughts led her back to Spike. He was the only one who had stayed around. Not asked too much. Been happy with what she could give. Even when she treated him so badly, he still forgave her, still loved her.
She stood up, a single tear making its way down her face. ‘Bye Spike. I love you’ she turned and began to walk away from the crater.
Deep under the rubble a horrendously tacky crystal began to glow…
