Willow looked around the grounds of The Mall in Washington, DC. In all her travels, she has never been here before. The history geek inside her would normally have her running around taking pictures of everything. But Willow and Dawn weren't here for a vacation, this was business. She could just see Giles and Buffy flumming back in England. Not only did Dawn leave without telling her older sister, but the Council had two Watchers away from their assignments.
"Willow," Dawn said as she tugged on the arm of Willow's jacket. They could see Agents Riley and Samantha Finn walking towards them. Willow could sense something different about Riley, something dangerous.
"Willow, I agreed to this meeting because we have fought together. I thought we made our statement very clear," Riley stated, his right hand always in his coat. The way his covered hand was positioned, she could tell that he had a pistol, probably with a silencer.
"What statement?" she asked.
"The Initiative was been re-started, and Sam and I are the section leaders. Instead of attacking demons, we going after what created them....magics."
"No...Riley, magics did not create the demons...."
"That's not what the evidence tells us. So far, we hit New York, LA, Cleveland, Dallas, and here in DC. Including a certain witch who was a rat for a time...Amy Madison, I believe you knew her," Sam adds to the conversation.
"Amy...knew....?" Willow stampered, Dawn reached over to help her stand up.
"Yes, 'knew'...like she's at the Big Magic Shop in the sky."
Riley stepped in front of Willow and whispered in her ear. "I'm giving you this one warning...run. Right at this moment The Second Watcher's Headquarters is under attack as is that Coven in Devon. So, run...stay out of our way." The two agents turned at walked away. Dawn caught some movement to her left and saw the barrel of a sniper rifle being lowered.
"Come on, Willow, we got to go."
Dawn knew that they were in danger if they took a regular scheduled commerical flight from Dulles Airport. She payed for a private charter flight from a private airfield, and six hours later they landed at a small airfield just south of Westbury. They didn't talk much during the flight, they just thought of their friends back in England.
They caught a cab back to Giles's house. As they approached the Giles, a column of black smoke could be seen. The entire house was on fire. Buffy, Faith, Giles, and Xander were standing there. Buffy ran over to Dawn and hugged her.
"These commandos came in, they killed some of the girls, and set the house on fire," Giles explaines.
"Kennedy?"
"I'm here, baby." Kennedy ran over to the still stunned Willow.
"Buffy..." Willow started to cry. "It's Riley."
"What about Riley?"
Willow couldn't say anything more, so Dawn explained. Buffy just stared at her friends. Riley, her former love, had betrayed them all.
