After much bandaging, cleaning, and buying almost every kitten from every pet store in the city, the gang was sitting in the living room of Kennedy and Willow’s trashed apartment. The Slayers were still passed out and had been moved to the spare room. Willow was still out cold and tied to her bed.
Giles and Frederick were frantically looking through books, trying to figure out how to wake them up. No one wanted to risk removing the necklace. They had to close the energy exchange between Willow and the Slayers. Giles had speculated the Slayers would wake up when Willow did, their connection having been reversed by Mikkel/Linotheus. Willow was now controlling the Slayers instead of the opposite.
Dawn was taking a much-deserved break. She had decided to clear her head and get some fresh air. She was standing in front of the building, just watching the crowds pass.
“Hey,” Buffy said, coming up beside her sister. “Penny for your thoughts.”
Dawn looked sadly at her sister. “I thought he really liked me. He said we had a connection and I was stupid enough to believe him.”
“Love blinds us all Dawnie. I mean look at my track record,” the Slayer said.
“It’s just,” Dawn began, “he made me feel special.”
“Dawn.,” Buffy started coming around to face Dawn. She put her hands on her shoulders and made her look at her for emphasis. “You are special. You are one of the most amazing people I know. You are smart and funny. You never give up, no matter what. You know what you want and you go for it. You were amazing today. You showed more courage in there then anyone. Everything about you is special, you should know that here,” Buffy said, putting her hand on Dawn’s heart. “I do.” She smiled at her sister, seeing for the first time the woman she had become.
Dawn smiled tears in her eyes. She embraced her sister. “I love you Buffy. Even though I don’t always show it.”
“I love you too Dawnie,” Buffy said, hugging her back.
“So what is going on between you and Xander?” Dawn asked, pulling away, a glint in her eye.
“I don’t know, yet” Buffy said, smiling shyly. “I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”
There conversation was interrupted by an anxious Ilya. “Buffy, Dawn, I think we found something,” he said, coming out the front door to retrieve the two.
