Kennedy, Faith and Dawn stood at the door to Slayer Central. Before Kennedy had a chance to knock, the door flew open to reveal one very, very excited Vi. “Dawn! Faith! I can’t believe you’re here. Dawn I haven’t seen you in about a million years. What’s going on? How long are you here?” She embraced both girls. “Come in. Let me introduce you. Faith, you probably know most of these guys already. Everyone, you remember Faith?” They all nodded. They remembered her and they remembered how hard she had worked them.

“And this is Dawn,” Vi said, gesturing to Dawn. “Dawn this is Charlotte, Susie, Frederick, and Ilya.” Everyone waved.

“Hi,” Dawn said cheerily. “So, what’s everyone up to? What’s the deal on our new evil, demon, vampire, hell god?”

“Well, that is what we are trying to find out,” Frederick began, trying to sound as authoritative as possible. “I’m the Watcher,” he said, extending his hand to Dawn.

“Wow, they certainly are making them young nowadays,” she said, taking his hand.

Frederick blushed. He had just turned twenty and was one of the youngest Watchers in the field. He had completed the courses quickly, and was known for speedy researching.

“Well, I am sort of an anomaly,” he said proudly, puffing himself up in his tweed jacket.

“But, they dress them the same,” she said, smiling slightly. “You dress just like Giles. Faith, you need to put on a class ‘Stylish Watcher 101: How you too can never wear tweed again!”

Frederick shrunk slightly. “Yes, well,” he began. “We have been unable to find much on the demons we encountered the other night in the park. The Touruk Demon usually runs in clans and has a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, which it sheds once every year. The only way to kill it is to pierce its heart, or set it on fire.”

“So it’s like a vamp,” Faith said, bouncing slightly, itching for the fight.

“Sort of,” Frederick said, picking up a book from a nearby table. “Only it’s heart is in its stomach.”

“So what do these guys look like?” Dawn asked. Frederick passed her the book. “Eeww,” she said with a shudder. “Is that its head?”

“Um, no,” Frederick said, taking the book from Dawn and flipping it over. “That is.”

“Double ewww,” she said, passing the book back to him.

“Hey, Kennedy,” Charlotte whispered, smiling sweetly. Kennedy gave her a little wave. “So what do you do, Dawn,” she asked the girl.

“Oh, I just help,” Dawn answered. “Research, stuff like that.”

“So you’re not a slayer?” Charlotte asked, raising an eyebrow.

Susie elbowed her. “Shhhh, she’s Buffy’s sister.”

“Oh,” Charlotte said, reddening.

“I’m sorry about her,” the girl stammered “Everyone knows who you are.”

Now it was Dawn’s turn to blush. “They do?” she said, looking down at the girl.

Susie just nodded.

“Okay people, enough with the celebrity admiration here!” Vi instructed. “We need to get going if we are going to get this over with sometime tonight! Kennedy, do you want to take over? It will be all yours soon!”

“Sure,” Kennedy said brightly. “So, Frederick, do you have any information on how to cut through these guys to get to the heart?”

“Nothing specific is listed. I suggest a large ax.”

“Hmmm, okay, well a large ax it is then. How are we on the fire front, Ilya?”

“I know a couple of spells I can use, but I am not sure how to give fire to everyone else.”

“That’s okay,” Kennedy said. She was eating this leadership position up. She was in her glory. “This is how it is going to go. Faith, Vi and I are going to go in first I want Charlotte and Susie in the second wave. Ilya, stay to the perimeter and if they get past us I want you to blast them with fire. Frederick and Dawn, I have a special job for you. I will explain it while everyone suits up. Okay, I want stakes and axes or very large blades only. Anything that is large and can slice and dice these guys.” Everyone broke to gather equipment and Kennedy took Frederick and Dawn aside to explain her plan.

Kennedy finished her explanation quickly. “Before we leave,” Frederick began, “there is something else I found in my research. These guys usually only travel to new places on business. They act as gangs for hire, doing whatever they were hired to accomplish. I don’t know what they want here, but I am sure whatever it is, they will do anything to get it.”

“Got it,” Kennedy said. “Stop them before they get what they came for! Everybody ready, let’s get out of here.”

“Aren’t Frederick and Dawn coming?” Faith asked.

“They’re meeting us there, after they get supplies.”

The gang was waiting for Frederick and Dawn at one of the many entrances the park. Finally the two arrived bags in hand. “Got it all?” Kennedy asked.

Dawn nodded.

“Great, let’s do this.”

The gang walked into the park.

*******************

It didn’t take them long until they encountered their first batch of vampires. They dusted them quickly and moved farther into the park to where the first encounter with the Touruk Demon was. Walking farther and farther into the park, they finally found what they were looking for, or at least the shed exoskeleton of what they had been looking for.

“That is so gross,” Charlotte said, making a face.

“It means we must be close,” Frederick whispered. “They would only shed near their lair.”

“I would say we are close,” Faith said as she stood face to face with one very large Touruk Demon.

“Okay, everybody, fan out!” Kennedy yelled as they were surrounded by more and more demons. “You all know what to do to, aim low, for the stomach!” That was all she got out before the battle began.

There were about fifteen demons coming from all sides. Each slayer had to engage two of them. Vi fought off her two in record time, catching the first one off guard and, within two hits of her blade, had plunged it deep into the stomach of the beast, slicing the heart. The second was a little harder to dispatch, but she was able to kill it. The others were not having as much success. Kennedy was struggling, fighting off one in front of her as another was sneaking up behind. Vi, upon noticing the assailant, took a leap and jumped onto his back. Screeching, the Touruk Demon ran, trying to get Vi off its back.

Frederick and Dawn were furiously working the perimeter of the battle. They were pouring pockets of lighter fluid onto the grass. Dawn was too busy to notice the demon coming up behind her. Ilya, on the other hand, did notice, and flung a fireball at the beast. He exploded with a scream, spraying a purplish goo everywhere.

“Thanks,” Dawn shouted, smiling at him. “Kenn, we’re done!” she shouted, attracting the attention of one nearby demon. Coming straight at her, it grabbed her around the waist, picking her up. Dawn kicked and pushed at the demon, but it was no use, he was too strong.

“Let her go!” Susie screamed, hurling herself into the demons back, causing all three of them to fall to the ground, but in the process it released Dawn. Susie recovered quickly and was back on her feet. Dawn saw her raise her ax and quickly rolled out of the way as Susie plunged it into the Touruk Demon’s stomach, over and over, until reaching the heart.

“Move, them to the perimeter!” Kennedy yelled at her fellow slayers, who fought the demons out and away from their nest. When the majority of the beasts were where Kennedy wanted them, she yelled at Frederick and Dawn. “Now!” she yelled. “Everyone move to the center.”

Dawn and Frederick threw matches onto the fluid they had spread and there was a giant burst of flames and howls, and then a spray of demon parts, followed by a giant waterfall of purple goo.

“That was awesome!” Faith said, smiling.

“One got away!” Dawn yelled, pointing.

“I got him.” Kennedy said, taking after the demon at a sprint. She caught up to it and tackled it. Dazed the demon looked up at Kennedy who had her axed raised, ready for the kill.

“It looks like whoever hired you should ask for their money back. You won’t be getting what you came for today.”

“Won’t we?” The demon said. “How do you know we don’t already have it.”

“What do you mean? What did you come here for? Was it one of the slayers?”

“What? Of course not, there are tons of you now, nothing special anymore,” the demon said with a wicked smile. “We are here for something much more rare. What we want is full of power. Sweet, smells like strawberries.”

Kennedy’s face fell, anger flashed across her features. “Willow,” she whispered. “You want Willow!” She plunged her ax with one fatal blow into the creature’s stomach and took off sprinting back to the group.

“Whoa, K, where’s the fire?” Faith said, seeing Kennedy running towards them.

“It’s Willow! They want Willow!” Kennedy shouted. She sped past them.

Everyone exchanged a quick look and went after her, speeding as fast as they could back to Kennedy’s apartment.
