Lilah Morgan sat at her desk. She scanned threw the large pile of documents and legal briefs which piled up. Outside she heard muffled yelling and the sound of various things breaking. With a little smile she gets up from behind her desk, walks around, and leans playfully in front of it.

A second or so later one of the security guards crashes through her office door. Angel walks in and knocks him out cold. Lilah looks at the security guard then at Angel

“Well,” she said, “there are many way’s to describe you Angel but subtle isn’t one of them.”

“They were mean to me.” angel replied

“I’m guessing this isn’t a social call, seeing as you have taken out half the security in the building, so why don’t we just cut the pleasantries and get to the reason you’re here.”

“I’m looking for a book.”

“Oh so close,” Lilah replied playfully, “The building you’re looking for is just down the street. Most people call it the library.”

“The Morntu codex. Do you have it?”

Lilah looked at Angel. She shook her head and folded her arms.

“Wow. When you go for a lost text you really go for a lost text don’t you?”

“Do you have it?”

Lilah got up from her desk she took a couple of steps towards.

“See, here’s my problem Angel. We run a business where all of our clients are evil and, pretty much, want to see you dead. If I help you don’t you think that’s going to send them mixed signals?”

Angel joined Lilah in folding his arms.

“It’s either that or I go through this building lawyer by lawyer, starting with you, until I get what I want.” He replied

“You don’t get it Angel. The senior partners don’t care if you kill a few dozen lawyers. They would have this place re staffed within a few days. But if you have your heart set on carnage I can give you a few names in middle management I wouldn’t mind seeing disappear.”

“Maybe I should take it up with the senior partners then.” Angel replied coldly

Lilah shrugged and went back to leaning on her desk.

“Go ahead. Just make sure you pick out what color ashtray you want your remains to be in once they’re done with you.”

Angel didn’t reply. He simply stared at Lilah intimidatingly. Lilah looked at him curiously.

“Why do you want the codex Angel?” she asked

“That’s my business.” He replied

“It wouldn’t have to do with a certain vampire slayer would it?”

Angel became angry he walked menacingly up to Lilah

“You leave Buffy out of this.”

“Oh I’m sorry,” Lilah replied sarcastically, “my aiming isn’t what it used to be was that a nerve I just struck?”

Angel narrowed his eyes and looked at Lilah with a piercing stare.

“I could kill you before you even breathed.” He threatened

“You would make it out of this building alive.” Lilah replied with the same intensity

“I could live with that.”

“Could miss Summers?”

Still staring with the piercing gaze he stepped back from Lilah.

“Fine, I’ll play it your way. I need it to find a book on a Demon.”

“Not good enough Angel. There are plenty of books on Demons you can get from any corner store.”

Angel watched Lilah closely. Studying her every move for any reason to kill her.

“The demon I’m looking for is old, possibly eternal, might have something to do with the word ‘Incarnate’.”

Lilah’s face dropped as she unfolded her arms. Angel became very disconcerted with the evil lawyers shocked expression.

“We can do this two ways Lilah,” Angel threatened, “I could torture you until you tell me where I can get what I need or . . .”

Lilah moved quickly around her desk. She pressed the Button on her intercom.

“Sally. I need you to go to the central archives and bring a book, Serial number . . . 324567/B, to my office immediately.”

“Right away Miss Morgan.” Sally replied over the intercom

“Or you could give me the book without resistance.” Angel finished curiously

“This is a one shot deal Angel. No one is to hear about this arrangement out side this building.” Lilah replied seriously

“Why are you doing this?” Angel asked

“I have my reasons.” She replied seriously

At that moment sally entered carrying a large volume. She handed it to Lilah and left the office. Lilah handed the book to Angel who examined it closely.

“This isn’t the codex” he commented

“No,” replied Lilah, “This is the book you were trying to find with the codex.”

None of what just happened made sense to Angel and it was making him feel nervous. If even mentioning ‘Incarnate’ could get you assistance from the source of all evil then this is much worse then he first thought. They had to find out what they were dealing with and they had to find out now.

“Thanks”

“Don’t thank me yet Angel. If you’re planning on facing Incarnate you have to be ready otherwise you’ll be dead. Which, if you think about it, would solve one of my problems so there is no rush.”

Still confused angel left the office. After he was gone she moved swiftly down the hall and entered the elevator. Pressing the right sequence the elevator took he to the white room. Lilah stood in front of the little girl conduit.

“He’s back,” she said entirely seriously, “Incarnate is back.”

Zachary Page finished putting a fresh coat of paint on the stairwell. He only recently took over management of the Bronze after the previous Manager disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Although his business was booming he was barely breaking even with the amount of repairs and rebuilds he has to do weekly.

As he was finishing up he heard the front door close. He stood up slowly. Zachary was sure he left the door locked. He moved to the center of the dance floor as he heard slow footsteps approaching.

“Who’s there?” he called out to the darkness

From out of the shadows Oz walked into the light. Zachary breathed a sigh of relief

“Geez Oz give me a heart attack why don’t you?”

Oz walked up to him slowly looking him up and down. Zachary had known Oz ever since the Dingo’s started playing at the Bronze. Tonight though he seemed different.

“Need the club.” Oz said purposefully

“Uh . . . Why?” Zachary replied

“Got this thing I want to do.” Oz replied

Zachary took a step back.

“Ah . . . Sorry Oz the place is usually booked solid.”

Oz narrowed his eyes. He slowly circled around Zachary.

“You wouldn’t be lying to me now would you Zach?”

Zachary began to sweat. He was frozen in fear.

“’Course on Oz-man “

“Bad things happen when people lie to me.”

Zachary began to tremble.

“Hey . . . listen. I usually close down the club on Sundays of cleaning and repairs why don’t you use it then?”

Oz walked back in front of him and smiled

“I like. Have to warn you though it’s gonna be pretty messy.”

“Shouldn’t . . . be a . . . Problem” Zachary stammered.

“Good. I’d hate the girl of the hour to be upset.” Oz replied
