Spike lay on his four-post bed. He glared angrily into space and fantasized about how he was going to make the slayer pay for the trouble she had caused him. He had been in his underground cavern for about a week trying to formulate the perfect plan. From the next room he heard the sound of his makeshift front door smash down. Spike rolled his eyes and got off his bed. He psyched himself up for a fight and waited.
“I have to warn you slayer. I’ve been waiting for this moment.” He called out.
Angel walked through the entrance.
“Some how I doubt that Spike.” He replied seriously
Spike dropped his fighting position and stared curiously at the hero.
“Angel? Didn’t know you were back in town. Though you left for L.A. to feel sorry for yourself.”
“Lava demon. What do you know?” Angel demanded.
Spike smiled. He sat himself down casually in his armchair and put his hands behind his head.
“Sorry mate. Can’t help you. You didn’t phrase it in the form of a question.” he smirked
“I did.” Angel replied coldly
“Oh. Well then it’s maybe because I don’t like you then.”
Angel grabbed spike roughly and slammed him hard against the cavern wall.
“I don’t have time for this Spike. What do you know?”
Spike winced in pain. Whatever Angel is looking for it personal . . . Or it has to do with Buffy. Spikes smile grew wider.
“Oh I get it. Little slayer girl has gotten herself into a bother so it’s up to soul boy to save the day.” He joked.
Angel slammed him harder against the wall.
“Ow!” Spike exclaimed, “that hurt.”
“Then tell me what I want to know and I’ll make it stop. If you don’t help me I will make it stop permanently.” Angel replied fiercely
“Now hang on”
“Clock’s ticking Spike.”
“I would have bloody told you if I knew anything! All I know about lava demons is they’re sticky, hot and they’re bad at poker.”
Angel looked at him for a few seconds longer. He let Spike go and stepped back from the wall. Spike straightens up his jacket and sneered at the champion.
“Now if you’ll excuse me I have a dinner appointment.” He announced.
“I would get out of town if I were you spike.”
“Well you’re not me, thank god, I’d never be seen with that much hair gel.”
Spike dramatically left his chamber. Angel stood and though for a moment. He was running out of leads fast and he still didn’t have an answer. Just before he was about to leave himself he narrowly dodged Spike flying back into the chamber.
Buffy stormed in and slammed him against the wall.
“Oh bloody hell!!” spike yelled as the slayer was slowly crushing him.
“What do you know spike?”
“I just finished answering that with captain forehead over there!”
Buffy turned her head and saw Angel standing, arms folded, looking very angry with her.
“I though I told you to stay out of this.” He said to he sternly
“I did,” Buffy replied, “then I remembered that I wasn’t listening to you.”
She looked back at spike.
“So spike you’re going to tell me what you know.”
“For god sake’s I don’t know anything. Why do you people keep making this mistake?!”
Buffy pulled a stake from her pocket and held it at Spikes chest.
“Wanna Try and think harder?”
Spike looked from Buffys wild expression to the stake that was slowly piercing his chest. He closed his eyes tightly and bent his head back.
“Alright, alright! I’ll tell you what I know.”
Buffy backed off. Spike dropped to the ground. He held his chest and breathed heavily for a moment then looked up at the slayer and the vampire.
“It’s just murmurs really, small stuff from things trying to get the hell out of dodge, they say it’s going to end.”
“What’s going to end?” Angel asked seriously
Spike painfully got back onto his feet.
“Everything, the world, it’s going to come crashing down.”
“So?” Buffy asks impatiently, “how is this different then any other creepy crawly that’s tried to do it?”
“The difference, dear slayer, is this thing can actually do it.” Spike snarled
“How come we haven’t heard of this coming until now?” Angel asks
“Well if you two had stopped snogging for two minutes and actually opened your bloody eyes you realized that this thing’s always been here.”
Buffy and Angel stared at him with a look of concern. Spike rolled his eyes.
“Oh my god! Have you ever wondered why so many have been trying to end the world over the last few years? The master knew it, The Mayor knew it, hell, I bet even Angelus felt it before he became all pink and fluffy again.”
“Knew what spike?” Buffy asked deeply seriously.
“It's coming.” He replied, “and it won’t stop until everything is gone.”
“And what is ‘it’ spike?” Angel demanded
Giles wiped his eyes tiredly. He, Doyle and Cordelia had been going through the volumes of book in his house for the majority of the evening. Giles topped up his scotch and went for another book.
“Are you sure can’t give a clearer description?” Giles asked
“Sorry man,” Doyle replied, “it’s the best I can do.”
“I know I’ve said this at least ten times but are you sure it’s a lava demon?”
“It’s not like I have a pause button with these visions. All I saw was it was big, fiery and smelt like brimstone.”
Cordelia scrunched up her nose
“What does brimstone smell like?”
Doyle shrugged and flipped through the pages.
“It’s metallic. Kind of like copper.”
Giles returned with another stack of books and put them on the floor.
“So there was noting left out then?” he asked
“Well. The only other thing I remember feeling is that this thing, what ever it is, is very old, like, it has been around forever.”
“Old.” Giles commented to himself for a moment.
He stood up and rushed over one of his bookcases and pulled out a dusty green volume. He flipped through the pages hurriedly.
“What is it Giles?” Cordelia asked
“I think the reason we are not finding anything is that we’re looking in the wrong place.”
Giles found the page he was looking for and ran his finger down the page.”
“Yes! Of course!” he exclaimed excitedly
He rushed over to the other two.
“It was right here in the Morntu codex. See . . .”
At that moment Giles’ door burst open and a demon rushed in. it leaped on the table and kicked Doyle in the chest sending him flying back into a wall, which knocked him out cold. Its next target was Cordelia who met a similar fate. Giles backed off but was thrown against the wall. As he drifted out of conscious he witness the Demon take the codex and run out of the house.
The occupants lay silently as a second figure entered the damaged house. The figure walked up to Giles. From its pocket it removed a scrap of paper and laid it on his lap. With it’s task now done the figure fled the scene leaving the only piece of evidence of his entry. A small piece of paper with one word scribed immaculately on it . . .
