Buffy looked up, “Angel?”
Angel was standing right there in front of her, fighting the vampires. She couldn’t believe it. What was he doing here? There was time for questions later. She got up and began to help him. He staked the vampire he had thrown across the lawn and then moved on to the rest.
As Buffy staked a vampire she asked, “What are you doing here?” She couldn’t wait until the battle was done, she had to ask now.
“We need to talk,” Angel said as he staked his second vampire. There were only two left now and they were both after Buffy. Angel ran over to them and hit one of them that was about to grab Buffy from behind.
Buffy staked the one she was fighting, “Thanks,” she said as Angel staked the final vampire.
They looked at each other and smiled. Buffy was happy to see him but at the same time she wasn’t because she knew that when he left again it would make things that much harder. Her smile faded and she looked at the ground, “So…what do we need to talk about? Because I think we said everything we needed to say in L.A.”
“I thought we had too…but…something happened after you left,” Angel said with a small smile on his face.
“What happened?” Buffy asked with a look of confusion.
Angel’s smile grew, “come here.” He grasped her hand lightly and pulled it towards his chest. She hesitated at first, “it’s ok,” Angel reassured her, “I just want to show you something.”
She let him place her hand on his chest. At first she didn’t get it but then she felt it. “Your heart…it’s…beating.” She smiled but was unsure. She’s been there, done that. “I don’t understand,” she looked at him very confused.
Angel just smiled, “There was a mistake…don’t worry about how, I’ll tell you about it later. All you need to know right now is that I’m mortal…and I’m here.”
“But…you…you fought…you fought good…I don’t…” Buffy had so many things she wanted to say but she didn’t know what to begin with.
“I know Buffy. Everything is going to be fine now, I promise. I love you Buffy…and I’m never going to leave you again.” He pulled her gently towards him and kissed her softly but passionately.
When they parted Buffy looked up at Angel and smiled, still holding him tight. “I love you too and I don’t understand any of this…but somehow I know that this time…we’re going to get our happy ending.”
Angel smiled the biggest smile he could muster and kissed her again. When they parted he looked at her with a suggestive look, “I think this is the part where we go back to your place.”
“Angel is that all you can think about at a time like this?” Buffy said sarcastically. “I hope Willow isn’t home.
The two walked towards the dorm arm in arm.
“After we…you know…can we watch the sun rise?” Angel asked with an almost giddiness in his voice.
Buffy smiled, “sounds perfect.”
Note: It may have been a very predictable ending but I can’t help it. I’m a sucker for happy endings. I hope you enjoyed it.
