As Angel felt his heart beat he fell to the floor. He was alive…again. When he finally gained his breathe and calmed down, he looked at Whistler and said, “How did you do that? I’m still not sure I understand.”
Whistler just rolled his eyes and began, “Yea, you always were a little slow. Basically…this is it. This is your momen, your redemption. The power’s see all, and know all of the good you’ve done and this is your reward.”
Angel still wasn’t convinced, “That’s it? Just like that I’m allowed to be human again? I mean...don’t get me wrong I’m very grateful but I had always thought that I had a long way to go before this day came.”
“Well there is, I guess what you could call, a catch. The power’s still feel that you have a lot of good left to do that’s why they’ve given you more power then a normal mortal. I know you can feel it. It also wasn’t all just for you. They feel you can help more people by being human. You wont be AS scary and you can go out into the day. It works out better for them just like it works out better for you.
Angel couldn’t help but let out a smile. He was so happy. He was human. Now the only thing he could think about was Buffy. He had his doubts about this whole ‘being human’ situation, especially in light of recent events, but this was Whistler. They weren’t exactly friends but he trusted him. He also knew for a fact that Whistler didn’t have the kind of power it toke to turn Angel human…and yet…he did it anyway.
Whistler could see the happiness in Angel’s eyes. “So now they can’t call you ‘The Vampire with a Soul,’ or ‘The Angel of Darkness’ anymore. If I had to guess though…I think they’ll still call you a champion.”
Angel just looked at him and smiled. He couldn’t even put into words how grateful he was.
Whistler knew Angel was grateful. He didn’t have to say it. “Don’t let me down kid…or the Power’s will have my ass.”
They looked at each other and smiled and then before Angel could even say thank you or goodbye, Whistler was gone.
