A/N: Beauty pageant? I think that what it’s called.. Y’know the miss USA etc thingie? If I’m wrong, let me know..

Chapter 7

Angelus was currently seated by the fireplace, where Buffy so often was. He could see why she liked it so much. Cozy, warm and the rug in front of it was an excellent place to sharpen your claws. He mused over his feelings. Yes, he did have some feelings, but he didn’t know where it had come from. Before he used to be cold, so cold. Content, yes, content was the word for what a vampire felt. Now he felt… Complicated? Angelus, the mighty scourge of Europe was having a difficult time with his feelings?

He wanted to be with Buffy. He felt more then. The feelings he felt around her was addicting. She was addicting. Angelus was at a loss of what to do.

There was a knock on the door. Tara got it, and when she opened the door, Giles was there.

“Hello Giles, so nice to see you!” Tara said with a smile. Nope, nothing’s wrong here.

“Hello Tara.. I’m here for information on Buffy. Are you sure she went to a beauty pageant?” Giles said, skeptically. Buffy wouldn’t just disappear like that without telling him.

Right then, Willow walked in, saving Tara from Giles’ skeptic glances. When she saw him, she plastered on a great big smile. Oh, yeah, nothing was wrong here.

‘Something is wrong here’ Giles thought. Willow hadn’t been that lively even when she tried coffee for the first time. And that had been a blast to watch. It had taken Willow most part of a day before the energy from the caffeine high had left her.

“Hello Willow. Have you heard anything from Buffy?” he asked inquiringly. Buffy would never turn to artificial beauty over her slayer duties. Oh, who was he kidding. Buffy was a slave for fashion.

“Oh! Yeah, she managed to bitch slap Miss Oklahoma because, well, the girl was a bitch. She didn’t use slayer strength though, but the girl left the competition sporting a black eye. Buffy was very proud of herself.” Willow said and widened her smile.

“Did she now?” Giles said with a smile. Willow was lying, he could see how she was over exaggerating things to the point of absurdity. Buffy wouldn’t do that. She knew he would be mad at her. Besides, Buffy had taken the ‘protect the innocent’ pretty serious. Willow was up to something. Just then a black cat walked to the front door, intent to get outside.

“Have you gotten another cat? Didn’t you already have one Miss Kitty Fantastico if my memories serves correct? Please tell me that isn’t her..” He looked worriedly at the cat, now in Tara’s arms.

“Uhhh.. This one? No, this isn’t her. This is a he! His name is.. Albert!” Tara said. “Yup, this is Albert, our new cat. Or.. He didn’t have an owner, so we thought he could stay here.” Willow said to support the theory. “Isn’t he a cutie!” And then she began to cuddle the cat which now seemed mighty uncomfortable on Taras arms..

“Right.. “ Giles said and cleaned his glasses.

Angelus was just passing by when he heard Giles’ voice. ‘How amusing’ he thought, and with a chuckle went to fins out what the old man was doing here. Little did he know the he would be picked up, and then named Albert. Like being a cat wasn’t enough. But strangely he wasn’t so angry at the witches for that. He was glad they made up another name.. If they had told Giles that he was Angelus, Giles would have probably taken the chance to kill him. Maybe the witches cared for him? Maybe it was them having a guilt-trip for putting him in a cats body instead of the one women swooned over in normal unlife? Or maybe he had kept his charm.

When Willow started to cuddle him, he desided that enough was enough and leapt out of Tara’s arms and landed on the front lawn. Then he quickly sprinted off, needing to spend some time alone to harass other cats. Oh how Angelus enjoyed his life now. But then he caught up in instinct when a bird sat on the grass only a few meters away from him. Angelus could learn to like this life. Except for the crappy cat food. He could never ever get used to that.

“I’m sorry that Buffy couldn’t tell you about the pageant, but she had to get going quickly to get the spot. Otherwise, Cordelia would have gotten it and you KNOW how they don’t get along and how Buffy dislikes her and she really wanted to go…” Willow was rambling again, and Giles decided it would be better for him to leave now before Willow passed out because lack of oxygen.

“I’m not entirely convinced, but I’ll leave for now. The Magic shop needs my attention. Bye then, and I hope you will inform me of any other news from Buffy,” he said before walking to his car, the old beauty, and driving away.

Buffy was dreaming…

She didn’t know where she was. It was so blurry, no shapes, no reorganization. Not in her sight at least. She was walking somewhere. She was trying to get somewhere, maybe to someone? Buffy found the blurry outline of a tree. She was outdoors. The smells and sounds confirmed it as well. It smelled like newly cut grass and there were sounds coming from what she thought was bees on one side of her. It also smelled like roses. Maybe she was in some sort of garden?

Her steps lead her somewhere without really doing so. It felt like she stood still yet grew somehow. Matured. But Buffy was mature. Almost. It felt like something long gone connected with her soul, blended into it. She couldn’t stop here. She knew she needed to go on. But she didn’t know where. Where was she going? Why was she in a garden? Why wouldn’t her sight work properly. Maybe she wasn’t meant to see it. Buffy’s slayer training came at good use when she stood perfectly still. Trying to sense something vital, something that would explain this.. dream? Maybe she was dreaming, yet it didn’t feel like it. Her dreams were never this blurry. Never this overloading on her senses. She knew something wasn’t right. Or was it? No.. Her entire being screamed no. It wasn’t right. She needed to make it right. But as Buffy stood still, she could also smell another fragrance.. It was small but still there. It smelled like cologne, maybe aftershave? It was definitely male. She could hear a faint rumbling somewhere in front of her.

She couldn’t identify it though. It was too far away from her. Why was is away? She somehow needed it near her. But she didn’t know how to get to it. She wasn’t seeing clearly. She needed to see clearly. She tried, so hard, but couldn’t. But luckily the voice wasn’t moving. It was right there, somewhere in front of her. She could reach it. But then she fell on a slippery rock, and fell, and fell, and… Saw light?

Buffy woke up with the most strange feeling. She remembered her dream clearly, or on what lever of clear it was. She didn’t know, but she had to go back. Had to make it right. Buffy tried sleeping again, but it was no luck. She wasn’t tired anymore and gave up.
