Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!! Buffy woke up with a start and looked around in disbelief. She was lying in her bed, still fully clothed from the night before, listening to an alarm clock that she didn’t remember setting. Buffy turned the alarm off and got out of bed, trying to remember what had happened the night before. Her mother was still at an emergency weeklong meeting thingy for the art gallery that she owned.

Buffy sighed and started getting ready for school. She stopped when she saw note on her dresser, with a long-stemmed red rose lying across it. Her heart skipped a beat as she leaned over to pick it up. The Slayer smelled the blood red rose and instantly thought, She scanned the note-

Angelus, the one with the angelic face >

Buffy laughed at how he had signed the note and got all dreamy as she reread the note over and over again. She finished getting ready or school and skipped off nearly half an hour early. Buffy arrived at the library feeling more energetic than ever. Giles looked up, startled as she flounced through the swing-back doors.

“Oh my, you’re early.” He commented. Buffy either ignored or didn’t hear the surprise in his voice.. “Did you find any vampires last night?” He questioned.

“Oh yeah!” She murmured dreamily, thinking of Angel, then her thoughts snapped to the fight in the alley. “Oh! Um, yes! I met up with a rather vicious group in the alley next to the Bronze. Don’t worry, I dusted them all.”

“Yes, well…” Giles murmured. “Anything else I should know about?”

“Yeah, Buff, anything after, say, Angel carried you home last night?” Xander walked in with Willow next to him.

“Carried!” Giles yelped. “Were you hurt?” He quickly scanned her body for injuries.

“No, Giles. She was just unconscious.” Willow put in teasingly.

“Unconscious!” Giles looked like he was about to have a nervous breakdown.

“God Giles! Don’t get all wiggy on me! I fell asleep.” Buffy explained.

“Oh.” Giles looked relieved and mildly annoyed. “You saw Angel last night?” He continued, trying to sound unfazed. “Yeah.” Buffy sighed dreamily. “He was at the Bronze.” She snapped to alertness. “Why?” She asked suspiciously. The Watcher shrugged.

“No reason.” He left it at that. The warning bell sounded. The students sighed and slunk out the door.

Angel slipped in through the stacks, staying in the shadows. He heard the bell and was extremely disappointed; he had hoped to see Buffy before class; he couldn’t keep away. But, surprisingly, from across the library he could hear her voice;

“Anyone can see the road that they walk on is paved in gold. It’s always summer; they never get cold, never get hungry, never get old and pray. Heyyy! The children woke up and they couldn’t find ‘em. They left before the sun came up that day. They just drove off and left it all behind ‘em…but where were they going without ever knowing the way?”

The Slayer sang on. Angel peeked through the stacks and smiled. Buffy was sitting at the table, pretending to study with headphones over her ears.

Buffy felt him watching her. She spun around smiling widely. “Hey! How are ya?” She grinned.

“Fine, thanks.” He said as she walked over to him, turning her walkman off. “Aren’t you supposed to be in class?” He asked.

“It’s my free period.” She explained readily.

All of a sudden he swept her up into a passionate kiss that seemed to last for hours.

“Ahem!” Giles appeared from out of his office. Buffy and Angel broke apart, stepping away from one another, both looking very embarrassed. “Hello Angel.”

“Hello Giles.”

Giles turned to Buffy. “Aren’t you supposed to be studying? Although by the sound of it you weren’t thinking very much about Louis XI.”

Buffy blushed furiously. “Hey! You knock MY music and then you go listen to that classical crap!”

Xander walked in. “Hey! Break it up! Hey man, how ya doin’?” He said as he saw Angel.

“Xander!” Giles was exasperated. “This is the third class you’ve skipped today!”

Xander blinked. “So?”

Giles threw up his arms. “Oh, I give up!” He yelped.

Angel smiled and inched closer to Buffy. They kissed again as Xander and Giles had it out. “Buffy, Spike’s planning something big, I have no idea what it is.” Angel looked worried.

“Shh.” Buffy murmured. “Let’s not worry about that right now.” She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him passionately, not caring about Xander or Giles at the moment. They kissed and kissed and eventually Xander and Giles realized what they were witnessing. Xander felt a pang but did not voice it. They both turned away as the bell rang and Willow bounced in.

“Hey, guys!” She saw Buffy and Angel. “Uh, ya know guys, this IS a school.”

Buffy reluctantly broke apart. “You sure?” Angel laughed.

Xander instantly answered. “Positive!” They all gave him strange looks but otherwise ignored him. Buffy sighed and leaned against Angel, who held her close.

“Uh, Willow.” Giles cut in. “Willow, could you look something up for me on the idiot box?”

“Computer, Giles, and yes, I’d be glad to.” Willow sounded slightly annoyed. She walked over to the computer and booted up. Giles followed her

Buffy and Angel were lost in each other’s eyes. Xander stood alone. “Okay, see ya guys later.” He said, feeling excluded. He got no answer so he left.

Xander roamed the halls, feeling bored and lonely. He winced as someone ran past him and hit his arm. “Jerk!” He muttered under his breath. The bell rang and he grudgingly went to class.

Back in the library Willow was starting to wig since she hadn’t been able to find something or another on the Internet. Angel looked at Buffy who had cuddled up in his arms. The words hit him with a jolt even though it was a thought and had not been spoken aloud. “I should go now.” Angel whispered. He gazed down at Buffy’s beautiful face that was looking up at him with a frown. “I shouldn’t be out during the day anyway.”

He lost himself in her huge blue eyes. It was then that he silently vowed that he would rip out the throat of anyone who dared try to harm her. Promise to meet me at the Bronze tonight?” Angel pleaded. The Slayer nodded.

“I promise.” He gave her one last kiss before he disappeared through he stacks. Buffy sighed. Giles and Willow both looked up with a jerk. Giles was the first to speak.

“Where did Angel go?”

“Did we miss something?” The hacker added.

The Slayer shook her head and sighed again. “Come on Will, we’re already late for class.” The two walked out of the library chatting contentedly.

In a sudden blur a couple of people rammed into Buffy and Willow with such a force that poor Willow was sent flying backwards. Buffy, being the Slayer, wasn’t nearly as affected. “Will! Are you okay?” Buffy shrieked, helping her friend to her feet.

“Yeah, I’m all right.” Willow mumbled.

“Geez! Those people had better have a very good reason for being so reckless! The nerve!” Buffy was clearly pissed. The bell rang.

“Oh no! We’re late!” Willow cried. Just then Principal Snyder came moseying on by.

He tossed two slips of paper at them and spoke out in a singsong voice. “Detention!”

The two girls groaned and headed for class.

There was static over the phone lines as the little man who had run into Xander and Willow talked to his ‘boss.’ “Yeah,” he was saying, “I planted the bugs on the two friends and Maggie got the Slayer, anyway, how is the device we put on the Slayer different from the ones we put on her friends?”

“Be quiet, you idiot!” The boss hushed the little man. “The devices on the friends are just sound listening bugs. The one on the Slayer is a result of decades of work in top-secret labs. It can cause pain, infection, and any disease with the merest flick of a dial or switch. Remember, Spike said to make sure both the Slayer and her boyfriend suffer tremendously.”

“Then why don’t we bug the boyfriend too?” The little man asked.

“Spike said he would suffer just seeing the Slayer suffer.” The boss murmured.

“Spike’s paying you HOW much to do this?”

“Be quiet! It doesn’t matter.”

Buffy started feeling bad towards the middle of class. < I can get through this. > She thought. < I need to get better quick so I can go see Angel at the Bronze tonight. Oh! What’s wrong with me?! Ooh! It hurts! My side is killing me! Okay, I need to make it through this class then I guess I’ll go home sick. > Buffy couldn’t believe the pain that was exploding in her side. The part on her arm where that jerk in the hallway hit her was feeling sore too. Somehow she managed to get through class.

Neither Willow nor Xander were in this class and the library was on the other side of the school so she decided to call everyone as soon as possible. She gasped in pain, grabbed her side and ran for the nurse.

The boss chuckled. “Acute appendicitis underway!” He laughed evilly.

“Good work! She’s meeting Angel tonight. He won’t able to stand to see her suffering. Just make sure it get REALLY bad tonight when Angel’s around.” Spike congratulated him.

“As you wish.” The boss replied.

Willow and Xander burst through the library doors after school, calling for Buffy. Giles popped out from behind a stack of books. “Buffy? Isn’t she with you?”

“You mean she’s not here?!” Willow gasped.

“We patrolled the entire school-she’s not anywhere!” Xander added.

Giles looked faint. “Oh, dear Lord.” The phone rang. Giles didn’t notice it at first; he was so worried.

“Giles, phone.” Xander informed him.

“Oh, oh yes.” Giles picked up the phone. A whoosh of relief went through him when he heard the caller’s voice. “Buffy! Where are you? Are you all right? What happened?”

“Giles, calm down. I’m all right. I started feeling kinda icky so I went home sick.”

“So you’re not all right?” Giles continued, ignoring Xander and Willow’s pleas for info.

“Giles, I assure you, I’m fine now, I just felt a little oogy back there, it was more than likely the ‘food’ they served for lunch. Listen, tell Willow and Xander I’ll meet them at the Bronze at about nine and I’ll patrol later on.”

“Maybe you should stay home tonight.” Giles couldn’t keep the worry out of his voice.

“Giles! Listen to me! I’m fine!” Buffy hung up and Giles did the same after a moment. He relayed her story to the impatient teens that wouldn’t leave him alone. Willow and Xander promised to keep a close watch on her that night and call if anything suspicious happened.
