The sun rose early that morning, casting a pink hue over the city and shining directly into Giles' face, he squinted into the light and rolled over, falling off the couch and banging his head on the coffee table. "Fabulous" he growled at the carpet, picking himself up off the floor he looked at his watch. "Ten past five?" he asked the timepiece. Giles sighed heavily and made his way to the kitchen deciding that since Mother Nature had deemed it time to get up, he'd better put the kettle on. After filling and placing it on the stove to boil, Giles headed to the bathroom, tiptoeing past his room so as not to wake Willow, his morning bathroom requirements now completed he returned to the kitchen where the kettle was whistling loudly and rattling on the hob.
With a mug of tea he sat down on the couch, watching the sun continue its ascent into the morning sky. In his mind he perused the idea that Willow had had the previous night, 'the blinking thing could be a wonderful thing if it's only the Scoobies that blink in the 'normal' manner' he thought. His mind took him through all the possibilities of this and he became so involved in his thoughts that he didn't hear Willow getting up, didn't hear the chain flush as she visited the bathroom or even see her entering the living room. "Morning Giles." she said cheerfully as she sat down in the chair. "Good morni.........." Giles began as he looked over to her, mug half way to his lips, his words were suddenly lost and his hand lost its grip on the mug, spilling the now luke warm liquid into his lap. "What??" Willow demanded, "What? What's wrong? Giles?" Willows voice was filling with fear as she witnessed the reaction of her friend. "You're Willow!" Giles finally managed. She looked at him, bemused, "We know this Giles." she said but he shook his head, "No. You really are Willow. Look!" he stood up, pulling her with him to the tiny mirror above the sink in the bathroom. Willow gasped as she saw her reflection, the person looking back at her was maybe ten years younger than she had been last night, her long blonde hair had been replaced with stunning red and her eyes were green and sparkling with life and power.
She traced her fingers over her new old face and smiled, she remembered and suddenly it wasn't such a strange reflection but the one she had seen everyday for years. "I'm really me again." she said to herself more than Giles. "I really am."

In his stylish apartment block, Alex was buried beneath his duvet and snoring loudly. The alarm clock on the side was buzzing frantically and an arm appeared from beneath the covers and hit it solidly. "Not today!" he mumbled at it. From the hallway, Anya barked loudly and Alex knew he had to get up. "Ok girl, I'm coming just hang on." he said as his face appeared from the top of the duvet. He rubbed his face, trying to wake himself up, as his fingers reached his hair he stopped, "Gotta get a hair cut too." he told the empty room.
Swinging his legs from the bed, Alex's first stop was, as always, to the bathroom to relieve himself. With that task now complete he was hungry for doughnuts so headed out to the kitchen in search of food. By the back door, Anya was still barking and on hearing his arrival she turned to face him, stopping her noise and looking at him quizzically, still fuzzy with sleep Alex failed to notice the dogs confused expression and opened the door; "Go pee then." he told her. She spent another second or so looking at him before the urge to answer the call of nature dragged her out into the warm sunshine.

Alex went straight to the fridge and began rummaging, no doughnuts but peanut butter on toast also sounded good, he grabbed the large jar and popped two slices of bread into the toaster, whistling cheerfully. He switched on the little radio in the kitchen and poured himself a glass of orange juice as the news ended. "Now on JWMN, the new track from Blink 182, 'All The Small Things'" the announcer yelled, his tone far too cheerful for this hour of the day. Alex's toast popped up and he danced his way over to the golden brown bread, singing along as the song played loudly in the quiet room. Spreading peanut butter thickly on his toast, Alex stopped and stared at the radio, "So you're the song from my red head memory" he told it, "Hhmmph?"

Despite the confusion he still had about this, he turned the radio up and danced into the living room, as he passed the large mirror in the hall he took a double take. The man standing in the reflection with peanut butter on his cheek and toast hanging out of his mouth, looked somehow different this morning. His hair was much longer and scruffier than it had been the night before and, on closer inspection, his eyes were now brown instead of the crystal blue he was used to. He stood for a while, studying his features, yes he did look a lot different than he had when he'd gone to bed. The phone shattered the silence in the room and before he had a chance to move towards it, Anya burst into the house, barking loudly and trying to jump up the wall to answer it for him. "Okay girl, I think I got it." he told her, "Now, get gone." he threw her his second piece of toast and walked slowly to the ringing phone on the wall. "Erm, yes? Hello?" he said into the receiver, on the other end of the phone, he could hear the sounds of a busy office and someone typing manically on a computer keyboard. "Mr Heart? Are you ok?" came the familiar voice of his secretary, "It's almost 10am and you're not here so I thought I'd call and make sure you were ok." Alex walked back to the mirror, pulling the phone cord to its limit, "Am I ok?" he echoed her question while staring at his new reflection. "Y'know, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I don't think I am." he said as he rubbed his face again, "Oh. I'm sorry to hear that Mr. Heart. You should take a day to rest and we'll see you back in the morning?" she said, "That'll be good." Alex said and dropped the phone onto the floor with a heavy thump.

Anya had, by now, finished her slice of toast and had returned to stare at Alex, he looked down at her reflection in the mirror. "Something's gone wonky this morning!" he told her and she barked loudly in agreement before obviously deciding that this new stranger that at least smelt like her owner wasn't going to cause her any harm, she turned and headed towards the couch and back to sleep.

Across town, 'Ratty' was pacing her crypt, the previous night her vampire instincts had lead her to an attractive man whom she had been feeding from when a peculiar feeling took hold of her, causing her to push him violently away from her, turn her head and vomit fiercely. She had sprinted back to her crypt and had been pacing the floor ever since. It wasn't because the guy had taken drugs, that much she was sure of, she'd fed from a clubber who'd been on something before but this was different. Although she didn't feel any real difference in her strength or power, she suddenly had felt connected to something bigger, some heritage and mystical heroicism. "I can't help but think those people, that Giles man and his friend know about this." she said as she settled onto her plush bed. "And as soon as the sun sets, I'm going to find out what exactly it is that he knows."
With a plan now formulated in her mind, she closed her eyes and drifted into a fitful sleep.
