Chapter 6
Part 1: HERE
“Hey, Dawnie. How was school today?” Willow asked.
“Fine,” Dawn replied. “Are you going somewhere?”
“Yeah. I’m heading over to the Magic Box to pick up a few things. You wanna tag along?”
Dawn shook her head. “Homework,” she explained.
“Ok, have fun.”
“You too,” Dawn said, closing the door behind Willow.
“Dawn?” Buffy asked. “Is that you? And if it is, can you come here for a minute?”
Dawn sighed. “Yes and yes,” she said. . Then dropped her book bag by the front door and went to join her sister in the kitchen.
“What’s up?”
“Did Willow leave yet?” Buffy asked.
Dawn nodded.
“Have you been noticing how much time she’s been spending in her room lately?”
Dawn nodded again.
“Have you noticed any other weird behavior?”
Dawn shrugged. “Why?”
“It’s just this weird feeling I’m getting. I can’t really explain it.”
“Yeah,” Dawn said. “I’ve been getting a little of that recently. Do you think she’s sick?”
Buffy shrugged . “It just seems like she spends an awful lot of time up in her room, and to be honest, I’m starting to worry about her.”
“Maybe she feels bad about that whole dimension portal thing,” Dawn suggested. “Because she didn’t start acting like this until after you guys got back.”
“I don’t think that’s it,” Buffy said. “I think it’s Tara.”
“You think Tara is doing something to her?” Dawn asked, alarmed.
Buffy laughed a little. “No, I think Will is acting this way because she saw the other Tara and it brought back everything that happened with her Tara.”
“Oh,” Dawn said. “I guess that makes more sense.”
“Yeah,” Buffy agreed eyeing her sister curiously. “Where did you ever come up with an idea like that?”
Dawn sat down at the kitchen table. “You really wanna know?”
“Spill.”
Dawn sighed. “Ok, it all started yesterday after you said I could go visit Dawn...”
***
“Hey,” Willow said as she put some items on the counter.
“You’re buying stuff,” Anya said.
“Yeah. I was a little low on some stuff.”
Anya started ringing up her purchases. “So, when were you going to go back to that other reality?”
“I don’t know. I hadn’t really planned on it,” Willow said. “Why?”
“Well,” Anya said. “I was just wondering because...”
Willow smiled. “You want to go see the other Anya,” she finished for her.
“Yes,” Anya said.
“Well, you do realize that you don’t need me to get back there.”
“I don’t?”
Willow shook her head. “Nope. You can do the spell by yourself. All I’d have to do before hand is redo the anchor so you can get back here.”
“Can you do that now?” Anya asked.
“Sure,” Willow said. “How much do I owe you?”
“Twenty-seven ninety-three.”
“I don’t have enough cash. Can I write a check?”
“I’ll need to see two forms of I.D.”
“But, you’ve known me for like four years,” Willow protested.
***
“So, you talked this over with the other Dawn yesterday?”
Dawn nodded.
“And this closet that you ended up in was just like Willow’s,” Buffy repeated.
“Only the clothes in it were more like Tara used to wear.”
Buffy let this soak in for a minute.
“So, what do you think?”
“Well, I do agree with you that it’s weird. And it does seem a little too convenient to be a coincidence. But, the only explanation that I can come up with for there being an anchor in Tara’s closet is if her and our Willow are secretly seeing each other.”
“That would explain a lot,” Dawn said. “Like all the times you could’ve swore Willow was in her room, but she didn’t answer when you knocked.”
“And yesterday when you knocked and she didn’t answer, then you went in and she wasn’t there,” she paused. “Do you feel as bad as I do? Talking behind he back like this?”
Dawn nodded. “Maybe we should just go ask he what’s going on.”
“We should,” Buffy agreed.
They sat there in silence for a few minutes.
“Then, why don’t we?” Dawn asked.
“Because I’m afraid of what she’ll say.”
Part 2: THERE
“Hey, Giles,” the other Xander said. “Where’s Anya?”
“She left early,” the other Giles told him.
“Did she go home?”
The other Giles nodded. “But I doubt you will want to go there.”
“Why?”
“She has company.”
Xander sighed. “The other Anya,” he said.
Giles nodded. “Apparently Willow made another anchor so she could come visit whenever she wants to.”
“Great,” Xander said unenthusiastically. “So, what are you doing?”
Giles sighed. “I was getting ready to close up the shop and go get a bite to eat.”
“Oh,” Xander said, disappointed.
“Would you like to come along?”
“Ok,” Xander said happily.
***
“Do you think Giles would give you time off?” Anya asked.
“Probably. I do have a number of vacation days since I have never taken a vacation. I just don’t know if I can bare to be away from Xander for that long.”
“Its only two days,” Anya said.
“I guess I can be away form him for that long,” the other Anya said. “I mean, if I miss him too much, you could just bring me back.”
“Sure,” Anya said.
“Where would I stay?”
“With me, remember, I still have my own place.”
“Well, I’ll talk it over with Xander when he gets home.”
“Ok,” Anya said. “What game do we want to play next?”
Part 3: HERE
“Still no luck?” Cordelia asked.
Angel shook his head.
“You’re starting to get worried, aren’t you?” Cordy asked.
“A little,” Angel admitted.
“Do you think something sinister is preventing you from getting through?”
“I don’t know,” Angel said. “It just seems a little weird that no matter what number we call in Sunnydale we can’t get through.”
“Would you feel better if we just went there?” Cordy asked.
Angel nodded.
“I’ll go tell Fred and Gunn,” Cordy said.
“And Connor,” Angel said. “He’ll probably want to come along.”
“Ok,” Cordy said.
***
“You’re back,” Willow said. “I wasn’t expecting you until later.”
“I know,” Tara said, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “I came by to tell you that I won’t be by later.”
“What?” Willow asked, disappointed. “Why not?”
“Because I had a talk with the Dawn on my world later and she said that your Dawn is getting suspicous. I think we need to cool things off for a little while.”
“But...” Willow objected.
“Well, you could always come back with me and stay,” Tara suggested.
“But, my friends are here. I couldn’t just pick up and leave.”
“Yes you can,” Tara said.
“Ok,” Willow agreed. “Just let me pack a few things...”
“Now,” Tara said.
“Ok,” Willow agreed. “Let’s go.”
Part 4: THERE
“Where are we going?” Willow asked.
“Away,” Tara said. “I will NOT loose you again.”
“Oh,” Willow said, confused.
“Get in the car,” Tara said.
Willow got in the car and buckled her seat belt.
