NO MORE SECRETS, NO MORE LIES

“You look real nice tonight Slayer,” he said as he twirled her around.

“Are you trying to tell me I look ugly the rest of the time you see me?” she asked looking up at him, trying to look horrified.

“Of course not luv,” he said with a grin and mollifying her. “You look nice all the time, just especially nice tonight.”

“Thanks,” she looked down at his red t-shirt, black jeans, boots and black leather duster and smiled. “I’d say the same to you except you look the same as usual to me. Do you only own one pair of clothes?” she asked raising her eyebrow as she returned to his embrace.

“Nope, they all just look alike,” he said with a grin.

“Figures,” she said rolling her eyes, and then smiled when she realised that they matched, red and black.

“Why change when you don’t have to,” he said with a shrug, looking down at the Slayer’s very kissable lips.

“Typical guy, no fashion sense,” she drawled. “Not that you don’t look kinda cute,” she said with a giggle, “And we match, red and black.”

“Cute? Cute?” he asked with his mouth open, forgetting about kissing her. The nerve of the Slayer, applying the word cute to him! He growled menacingly and frowned saying, “I am not cute! Little slayers like you are cute.”

Buffy smiled then remembered the other night and that he was still an evil vampire and asked, “So…um, why’d you look after me last night? Not that I don’t appreciate it…”

“I didn’t figure you’d like to be known as the Vampire Slayer that died drunk from being depressed about her Vampire boyfriend,” he said with a raised eyebrow, then added with a grin, “And I didn’t really want you to go down that way, its much more fun when you fight back…also your real cute when your drunk.”

“Well thanks I guess,” she said looking up at him. “So why are we dancing now?”

“ Cause we feel like dancing?” he said with a raised eyebrow.

“You know what I mean,” she said frowning at him. “Aren’t we supposed to be enemies or something?”

“I suppose,” he drawled slowly. “But today we are just a guy and a girl dancing.”

“Yeah, an un-dead possibly one hundred and fifty year old guy and a Chosen eighteen year old girl,” she said with a grin. Spike narrowed his eyes and growled softly, Buffy grinned at the warning and shrugged, she wasn’t going to start a fight, she enjoyed being in Spike’s arms and he was a pretty good dancer too.

Willow looked up from her boyfriend and searched the dancing crowd for Buffy, and almost jumped when she saw her friend in the arms of Spike. She was about to go try save her friend from the vampire when she noticed that they were laughing and enjoying themselves. And finally the way they were looking at each other, the novice witch smiled to herself and decided to watch the couple, this was going to turn out interesting.

Spike might turn out to be Buffy’s saviour through this hard time with Angel… deep down she’d always kind of liked the blonde vampire and thought there was something about Spike, something different and unique. Willow watched as her friend danced the night away in the arms of the blonde vampire.

“I should probably go home,” Buffy said looking at her watch. “It’s twelve am, I’ve been dancing for five hours.”

“The night’s still young,” Spike said with a grin.

“Maybe for you,” she said as she looked up at the Vampire. “But it’s time to sleep for me,” she said and stifled a yawn.

“I’ll walk you home?” Spike offered.

“Okay,” she said with a smile and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. “I’ll be right back,” she called over her shoulder as she walked over to her friends to say goodbye, leaving a stunned vampire in her wake.

“Hey guys,” she said as she walked over to the table her friends were all congregating around. “I’m going home now, so I’ll see you all later?”

“Do you want a lift, Buffy?” Xander asked.

“Hey! What about me?” Cordelia demanded looking at her boyfriend, “I thought you were taking me home?”

“Buffy’s a big girl Xander, she’ll be fine by herself. Anyway she’ll probably do a quick patrol before she goes home,” Willow cut in giving her friend a wink. Buffy had the strange feeling that her friend knew more than she was letting on. She’d have to have a long talk with Willow, very soon.

“That’s true, so I’ll see you guys all later,” she said over her shoulder as she walked to the door, leaving her friends behind.

“All set?” she asked him, he nodded and they walked out the door together. Walking together in silence, arm-in-arm, both caught up in their own private thoughts about each other. “Spike?” she asked breaking the silence.

“Yeah pet?” he said looking down at her.

“Why didn’t you try bite me or kill me last night?” she asked looking down at her hands.

“I already told you love, I don’t take advantage of drunk slayers,” he said with a smile. “And you’re awfully cute when you’re drunk. Cute as a little blonde, green-eyed kitten.”

“I am not like a kitten!” she said hotly and scrunching her nose up at the idea. Kitten indeed! She thought with a grin.

“Are too,” he said grinning back.

“Am not!” she said loudly, green eyes blazing.

“Are too.”

“Am not, am not, am not, am not!” she said crossing her arms across her chest, and shivered slightly.

“Are too,” he said with a smile, and touched the tip of her nose with his finger. She glared at him and he remarked with a smirk, “Except now you look like a little spitting angry kitten, not at all like the happy purring kitten from last night.”

“Speaking of purring,” she started with a sly smile. “I distinctly remember my pillow purring quite nicely last night.”

“Vampires do not pur. I especially do not purr!” he said glaring at her.

“Whatever you say… love,” she said with a grin, batting her eyelashes at him. While trying to ignore the shivers that were starting to rack her body from the difference in temperature outside than in the club.

Stupid Sunnydale weather, she thought with a frown and started rubbing her arms.

Spike muttered something under his breath about annoying slayers and noticed that she was shivering slightly. He thought for a moment and cursed himself as he took off his black duster and put it over her shoulders, hoping that she wasn’t going to do anything to his duster, after all he’d had it for about a hundred years. Buffy was surprised at the sudden appearance of the duster on her shoulders, and of how warm and soft it was. “Thanks,” she said softly looking at him from under her eyelashes, trying not to notice how blue his eyes were or how sexy he was.

“No worries, pet,” he said, then added with a grin. “Just don’t get it dirty or anything,” as they started walking again.

“Why?” she asked with a grin.

“Because it’s like a hundred years old and I’ve just got the leather nice and soft and the way I like it.” He said looking at her with a raised eyebrow. “Okay?”

“Okay I promise not to hurt your nice soft leather jacket,” she said with a grin as they came to the park. “Do you want to swing for a while?” she asked softly, enjoying his company.

“Okay,” he said and sat down on one swing, Buffy sat on the other. They swung in silence, again deep in thought. Buffy thought about the times she’d been feeling so low she’d almost asked to die, and finally broke the silence and asked quietly,

“Spike, what would you have done if I had asked you to kill me or bite me that night?”

Spike looked closely at the slayer and answered, “I would have shaken you, taken you home, and chucked you in the freezing cold shower.”

“Why?” she asked curiously.

“What do you mean why? How the hell should I know why?” he said with a sigh, running his hand through his bleached blonde hair, only to see Buffy’s big green eyes still looking at him expectantly, waiting for an answer. “Because its no fun someone coming up to you and begging for you to kill them. There’s no chase, it’s boring,” he said with a grin.

“You wouldn’t bite me if I asked you too, just because it would be there would be no chase, so consequently boring?” she asked incredulously. “You wouldn’t want the delicious Slayer blood?”

“Alright, fine!” he said petulantly. “That and because I didn’t want you to die, though I don’t know why. There are you happy now?” he demanded sullenly. “I wonder if it is genetic or if I caught it from Angel the last time I saw him,” he muttered to himself under his breath.

“Aw…you’re so cute when you’re all heroic,” she said sunnily at him as she swung even higher.

“Yeah well, don’t get used to it,” he said sharply.

“Tsk tsk, Spikey, you’re just no fun,” she said wickedly as she jumped off the swing while it was in the air and landed perfectly.

“Yeah well I’m not supposed to be, I’m supposed to be evil.” He muttered to himself as he got off the swing and lit a cigarette. They continued to walk the last couple of blocks to the Slayer’s house in silence.

“Want to hear a secret?” Buffy whispered in a conspiring tone in his ear as they stopped in front of her door. Spike looked at her curiously and she went on her tippy toes and whispered, “I think you look pretty sexy in red and black,” and with that she pressed a kiss on his lips and ran to the house without looking behind her at the shocked vampire on her doorstep.

Oh my God! She thought to herself, her heart beating
loudly in her chest as she closed the door and sneaked up to her room, I just had a fun filled night with a vampire, well that’s not so different… except this vampire is supposed to still be evil! Most importantly I kissed Spike and I wasn’t even drunk this time!

She stood there in her bedroom thinking for what seemed like forever, musing over what she should do…finally she went with instinct and went to the window and opened it, looking down into the darkness and whispered “Spike, Spike! You can come up here, if you want.” Then took off his jacket and put it on a chair, and walked out before she could change her mind, picking up her pyjamas and going into the bathroom for a shower.

The blonde vampire looked up at the window that the Slayer had just popped her head out of and invited him in and wondered what the hell he should do about it all. He decided not to dwell on it otherwise he’d go crazy. He decided just to go in and see how it all turns out; he took an unneeded breath, climbed the tree and went up into the room. Only to hear the shower running, he ran a hand over his eyes and groaned, that was all he needed! More images of the Slayer running through his head, this time a naked Slayer running through his head.

Buffy walked out of the bathroom, towel drying her hair to find the blonde vampire pacing her room like a caged tiger. She walked up behind him and whispered, “Hey.” Spike spun around and looked down at his little Slayer, and felt at a loss he didn’t know what to do or say.

“Hey luv,” he answered. Buffy sat on her bed brushing her hair and looked up at him, then asked quietly,

“So…um...you going to stay with me tonight?”

“Uh, yeah,” he said looking at his hands.

“Come here,” she said patting the bed next to her.

“Uh, this is pretty awkward. Maybe I should just…you know, go,” he said while running a hand through his bleached blonde locks. Buffy rolled her eyes and stood up and started circling him. He looked at her in amusement unsure of what she was doing, when she tackled him onto the bed with a grin, pulling off his boots and snuggling down into his arms.

“Now that wasn’t so hard now was it?” she asked looking up into the shocked vampire’s blue eyes, with a grin. Spike gave a rakish grin and kissed her quite thoroughly and answered,

“Not too bad at all.”

“I know,” she said giving him a knowing look, then yawned, “You know what?”

“What pet?”

“You have very nice blue eyes,” she said as she snuggled into him and missing the look of surprise on his face. “And we’re going clothes shopping tomorrow.” She said as she fell asleep, leaving no room for discussion. Her last thoughts as she fell asleep were that she could easily grow to love the blonde vampire.

Spike looked down at the Slayer in his arms, deep in thought. Wondering what he was doing with her, him Evil and her Slayer…then he realised that she’d said shopping! Shit, she was trying to change him already and to his surprise he didn’t really mind. And he fell asleep happy and purring once again, causing his Slayer to smile in her sleep.
