DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY
I don’t want to wake up, she thought to herself as she lazily stretched and rolled over searching for comfort, only to wake up abruptly when her arm found nothing but empty bed. She opened her eyes and saw that it was one in the afternoon and there was some sunshine coming into the room. She sat up looking around the room and then at the place next to her and wondered if she’d imagined it, but the headache that had started to pound in her brain begged to differ. So she lay back down again and picked up the other pillow, it had his unique scent on it, a mix between sweat, cigarette smoke and a male musky scent. So she couldn’t have imagined it she thought to herself.
A soft smile covered her face as she thought about the blonde vampire and of how gentle and caring he’d been to her, and how good it had felt to be in his arms and the kiss…kiss? She thought with shock, she’d kissed him and enjoyed it, she thought embarrassedly. So what, she thought rebelliously, I was drunk and upset and I needed comfort…and Spike is kind of hot.
She abruptly frowned wondering why he’d been so gentle and looked after her so well. Why hadn’t he tried to bite her or take advantage of her… after all he was still soulless, so consequently evil. And where did this new…whatever it was put them? Where they still enemies? Buffy shrugged and decided that she didn’t really care right now; she’d figure it all out later. What she really needed was a shower and some extra strength Panadol she told herself as she got up and left the room, not even noticing that she was wearing a nightdress, and she hadn’t changed last night.

*Ring ring, Ring ring, Ring, ring*
“I’ll get it!” Buffy yelled as she ran for the phone and then felt foolish when she remembered that her mum was at work and she was the only one at home. “Hello?” Buffy said as she picked up the phone.
“Hello Buffy?” a male voice asked.
“Yeah it’s me Angel,” Buffy said quietly. “I didn’t think you owned a phone, I know how you hate new technology.”
“I decided to get one a couple weeks ago,” he said. Then after a pause added, “So…how have you been?”
“Oh you know me, school, patrolling, being chosen” she said in a carefree tone. Getting drunk, sleeping in the arms of the enemy, the usual she continued in her head.
“That’s good…I was a bit worried about you,” he said not knowing what to say that wouldn’t hurt her. He knew she was still upset he was leaving and it broke his heart to leave, but he had to.
“Well I’m going okay,” she said and took a breath and asked, “So when are you um…leaving?”
“In about two weeks,” he replied. “I’m going to keep the mansion, and other stuff in Sunnydale though.” Leaving it unsaid that he might come back to see her, or if she needed him.
“That’s good…I’ll come and see you when you… leave,” she said trying not to sound too upset at the idea of him leaving.
“That’ll be good…” he said unsure as to how to continue, he never had been good at conversation, especially small talk. “So um…what are you doing tonight?”
“Going to the Bronze with Willow, she said it would cheer me up…” she trailed off, she hadn’t wanted to bring up how upset she was that she was leaving. “I’m going to dance the night away, which reminds me I’m going to have to go Angel,” she said quickly as she looked at her watch, to see it was nearly six. “I still need to get dressed and go out for a quick patrol. So I’ll um… see you later?” she asked.
“Sure. Look after yourself Buffy and I’ll talk to you later,” Angel said as he put down the phone. He stared out the window that was now partly open now that the sun was almost down, thinking about his Slayer and whether he was doing the right thing.
Buffy gave a sigh of relief as she put the phone down and she sat on the bed. Talking to Angel was such a chore now, they always skirted around the fact that he was leaving and how they were feeling about it.
“Well I have no time for this,” she told herself. “I have to go put some clothes on and do my make up,” and with that she walked over to her wardrobe and pulled out a few outfits and looking at them in the mirror, only to discard them all. She finally decided on a dress of ruby red silk with black lace, the skirt flared out when she danced, it reminded her of the skirts that the Spanish dances wear, and the top was clingy enhancing her breasts and figure.
She pulled the dress up over her hips and smiled at herself in the mirror, “I look quite nice, if I do say so myself,” then frowned at the idea of wearing it slaying. “I’ll just change into it afterwards,” she told herself as she put on the matching headband and fluffed out her hair and sat down to put on her make up. She looked at the effect and smiled, then carefully stepped out of the dress and folded it up and put her red strapy heals in the bag as well. Then put on a pair of black leather pants, a clingy black top and a pair of boots, “And I still look nice.”
She walked over to the phone and dialled Willow who answered on the fifth ring “Hello?” her friend answered slightly out of breath from running to the telephone.
“Hey Willow,” Buffy said happily.
“Oh hey Buffy, what’s up?” she asked pushing a strand of red hair behind her ear and sitting down on her bed.
“I just wanted to say that I’m going to have to change out of my parol clothes and into my party clothes before I meet you, they’re not really that good for fighting, so I might be a little late. We’re meeting at seven aren’t we?” she asked looking at her watch that now said six thirty.
“Yep, I’m there to support Oz and dance the night away,” her friend said happily thinking of her boyfriend.
“Yeah well I better go, I’ll see you in thirty minutes, k?”
“Yep see you there Buffy,” Willow said as she hung up the phone and looked down at herself and wrinkled her nose. I need to hurry up or I’m going to be late she told herself and she started looking through her wardrobe.
“Okay, got my clothes and my money…I think that’s all,” she said out loud looking around the room. “Oh and weapons!” she said as she grabbed a couple stakes, putting one in her boot and another in her pants, and one in her hand she walked out the door carrying her bag. “How could I have almost forgot weapons?” she asked herself out loud as she walked down the path to the cemetery, not noticing the dark shadow that watched her.

“Come on, show me what you got!” the slayer mocked as the vampire ran at her and missed. “Nope you loose,” she said as she staked him. Then turned to the other three and said “Well hurry up I don’t have all night you know, I do have a life!” She sighed as they ran at her and she dusted all three of them in succession and she sighed. “Don’t make ‘em like they used to, a dozen dusted in a row. Oh well off to the Bronze for me!” she said as she skipped off to the nearest crypt and changed quickly into her dress. Checking her hair and make-up in her compact mirror, and walked off to the Bronze.
“Hey guys!” Buffy called as she waved to her friends as she walked in.
“So how was patrol?” Willow asked.
“It was okay,” Buffy said with a shrug. “I rid the world of a dozen or so vampires, so I won’t complain.”
“I like your dress Buff,” Xander said with a grin.
“Thanks,” Buffy said as she batted her eyelashes at him.
“Want me to go get you a drink Buff or anyone else?” he asked looking around the table.
“Sure I’ll have a coke,” Buffy said, a few others gave their orders and Xander walked away.
“It doesn’t look like you’ll have any trouble having fun tonight Buffy,” Willow said with a smile. “The whole male population seems to be drooling over you since you walked in the room.”
“Yeah right,” Buffy scoffed, but when she looked up she did notice a few guys looking at her and she smiled. It felt nice to be noticed and looked at, she thought to herself as she listened to the conversation that drifted around her. Then the band started playing and couples started walking onto the dance floor and at that moment a hand came down on her shoulder and someone asked her to dance, she accepted happily.

“Stupid Slayer,” the blonde vampire cursed as he downed half a glass of beer in one gulp and took a deep breath from his cigarette, as he watched her dance her way through the room, fluttering from guy to guy like a blood red butterfly.
He’d reluctantly left her that morning just before the sun had come up, he hadn’t wanted to because she looked so beautiful against the sheets and felt so good in his arms, but he equally didn’t want to be stuck in a house in broad daylight with a vampire Slayer that might want to stake him in the morning. So he’d left her, looking at the beauty and memorising her.
And now she was fluttering through the whole male population of the club, and hadn’t even noticed that he was here. His Slayer, he thought possessively. No longer caring that he had no real claim over her and that they were supposed to be enemies. With that decided he stood up from the bar and walked away from the woman that had been trying to persuade him to dance with her, instead he walked over to His Butterfly and her newest partner and tapped the guy on the shoulder and asked as pleasantly as possible, “May I cut in?”
The guy looked at the Slayer and she said, “No you may not, I’ve only just started this dance with Dan, isn’t that right,” she said with a smile that flustered the guy.
“Um…right Buffy,” he said. “Sorry mate,” and danced her away. Spike felt like punching something, most likely that guy, but reined in the impulse and smiled icily. He’d just get the next dance before anyone else could claim it.
“Phew,” Buffy said as she sat down on the chair next to Willow. “I’m exhausted, I swear I’ve danced to every song that’s been played tonight.”
“And you’re complaining?” Willow asked with a twinkle in her eye.
“Well, it has been fun,” the Slayer answered with a smile, and took a sip of her coke and looked around the room. Only to find her gaze settle on Spike sitting at the bar looking totally yummy… bad slayer! She told herself, you’re not supposed to think about Spike that way. “So um… where’s Xander and Cordelia gone off too?” she asked as she tore her gaze away from the blonde vampire.
“Probably off kissing somewhere,” Willow said with a grin and a roll her eyes and at that moment arms came around her and he kissed her on the top of her head. “Hey Oz,” Willow said with a smile, her eyes softening as she looked at her boyfriend.
“Hey,” he said with a smile. “Hey Buffy.”
“Hey Oz, I really enjoyed the music,” she said.
“Yeah it’s been cool tonight. We’re finished for tonight, and they’re taking over,” he said pointing at the other group that had just finished setting up. “I’ve come whisk my girlfriend away for a dance, he said looking from Willow to Buffy.
“Sure, you kids go have fun,” she said with an indulgent smile, and they walked off together hand-in-hand.
“Hey there Slayer,” the male voice said, as he stood behind her, interrupting her thoughts.
“Spike,” she acknowledged looking at the grinning blonde vampire.
“Dance with me?” he asked with a grin, holding his hand out to her. Why not? She asked herself. Because he’s a soulless evil vampire and your enemy! Another voice said. Yeah well I slept in that evil vampire’s arms last night and I’m still here, what harm’s a dance in a crowded room? she thought, blocking out the other voices reply.
“Sure,” she said taking the outstretched hand. She smiled at the shock on his face; he hadn’t expected her to accept his invitation. He quickly wiped the shock off his face and smiled wolfishly, leading the slayer onto the dance floor and taking her into his arms.
