FIGHTING IS THE ANSWER

“Alright so Angel’s leaving me, so what! I don’t need him,” Buffy said heatedly as she paced her room, ignoring the tight ache in her chest and throat and the feeling that her heart was smashed into hundreds of tiny pieces. “It doesn’t matter…I’m better off without him,” she said trying to convince herself.

Angel was an idiot she thought to herself, loving her and having her, then leaving her and rejecting her love because he thought that she deserved better. “Oh pooh,” she said out loud. “Doesn’t he know I’m old enough to make my own decisions?” She said flopping down onto her bed.

“Hard-headed vampire thinks he knows what’s best for me just cause he’s nearly two hundred and fifty years old!” She glared at the wall and wished heartily that she could go out and kill something instead of having to go to the meeting that Giles had called earlier. Especially since that meeting was going to involve awkward pauses and glances, not that the others would understand why.

Well if I’m going to suffer I’m going to do it with a smile on my face, as well as looking as good as possible, she thought to herself. After a wry look in the mirror at her tear-streaked face she got up and started looking through her wardrobe for the right thing. When she found it she smiled, it was perfect. It would make Angel squirm and make him realise just how much he was giving up with this crusade of his, she thought with a smile. Looking down at the black leather mini-skirt and clingy gold halter-top, and black leather knee high boots.

Eat your heart out Angel, were her last thoughts as she walked to the bathroom.

“God! Does that poof even know what he’s giving up?” The blonde vampire asked out loud as he watched the slayers petite yet curvy form leave the room, licking his lips at the site of her long legs and curvy body.

“He’s either a pure saint or just plain stupid!” Spike said out loud as he lit a cigarette thinking silently that his Sire was possibly both. “Unlike Mr. Soulful, if I ever caught a dish like that, I’d never let her go…” he said out loud as he took another drag. “Actually I’d probably keep her chained to my bed,” he said with a smirk.

He’d heard through the grapevine that Angelus was leaving to go to Los Angeles, but he hadn’t believed it. That is until he’d heard the Slayer ranting and raving about that no good pansy Sire of his, he thought with a smirk. Well he for one couldn’t wait for the dust to settle after his Sire’s departure. He wouldn’t be missed by him anyway he thought to himself.

Spike dropped from the tree near the Slayers window and stubbed out his cigarette, took one last look at the Slayer’s window and was just about to walk away when he saw the sassy Slayer walk out the door looking good enough to eat.

“It’s good to be back in Sunnyhell,” he whispered to himself as he watched the Slayer walk away.

“So…Um, what’s this meeting all about Giles?” Willow asked, looking up from Oz.

“Nothing overly important,” Giles said as he cleaned his glasses. “It’s just an overall report about the activity of the demons and so forth in the area.” He said with a sigh, “Though I do wish Buffy could have been here on time,” he said looking at his watch.

Willow glanced around the room. Xander and Cordelia were mixing between bickering and kissing in the corner, she was sitting and cuddling with Oz, Giles was reading one of his dusty old books and Angel was standing quietly at the door, taking everything in.

Buffy was nowhere to be seen, but she would turn up eventually she knew, her friend never shirked her duty. Willow knew her friend was upset about something and that she would confide in her when she felt ready. And at that moment she did arrive, breezing through the door with a killer smile and wearing a killer outfit, it was definitely a turn heads outfit. It was turning Angels, she thought with a smile.

“Hi guys, sorry I’m a bit late, what have I missed?” she asked in an apologetic yet still slightly carefree tone.

“Nothing yet,” her watcher said. “We were just about to start,” he said raising his voice and gazing pointedly at the quarrelling couple at the back, who promptly shut up. “Now then, as I was saying. As of late there haven’t been any proficies or uncommon demon activity as far as we know, anyway. Which just shows how important it is for you to keep your eyes and ears open because…”

Buffy tuned out the monologue that she’d heard at least a hundred times and thought of the look that had been on Angel’s face when she’d walked in. It had been a mix between love, need and regret, hm… maybe that wasn’t a good combination, she considered thoughtfully. But at least he looked at me and took notice, and he was still sparing small glances at her, she thought with a smile.

Angel, Angel, Angel she thought shooting a glance at him from underneath her eyelashes. Her first and only love was a vampire of over two hundred years. Angel had been her guardian Angel, all tall, dark and broody, not forgetting his soul. She sighed and looked away, remembering her dark vampire prince was leaving her.

Leaving so she could have a normal life or at least a normal boyfriend, not one that turns evil after a moment of pure happiness, but seriously, Buffy the vampire slayer normal? What a laugh, normal guys just don’t understand the stress your under, also that you could die any day and that you have to break dates because you’re the Slayer and you have to save the world. She tuned back in, in time to hear Giles say, “So you’ll go out patrolling with Angel tonight, Buffy.”

“Oh no I wont,” she said with a sickly sweet smile. “I might as well get used to going solo since Angel’s leaving to go to Los Angeles soon,” and with that she flounced out of the room. Leaving Angel staring at the door and five stunned Scooby’s staring at Angel.

“Stupid, arrogant, self sacrificing, know it all Vampire!” she ranted silently as she stomped off to the cemetery for patrol, adding now and then a few more choice insults to the growing list.

“Hey there honey, what’s a sweet thing like you doing here?” came a polite drawl from behind her.

“Staking Vampires. You?” she asked as she spun around, bringing a stake out ready.

“Ssss-slayer,” he hissed and vamped out.

“Come get me, show me what you got,” she said with a smile. “I’ll even give you a free shot,” she mocked. The vampire growled and ran at her. She got into the feeling of it, punching and kicking in a fury, and when she’d had enough she staked him. She still had lots of anger and hurt to go around to all the vampires of this town, she decided as she continued patrolling.

Daring the vampire population to come out tonight, against a mightily pissed off Slayer.

The blonde vampire leant against a tree watching the little blonde Slayer as she full out massacred his kind, consequently any vampire that was stupid enough to come into sight. While he leant against his tree and smoked a cigarette, actually he almost felt sorry for those poor fools who were dumb enough to go up against the Slayer, especially tonight.

Watching the slayer was like pure poetry, and I should know. I wrote enough of the damn bloody stuff, he thought with a grimace. The way she moved reminded him of a snake, he used to have. It was ever so deadly and yet so beautiful to watch and to look at, as long as it was behind glass. But he had enough sense to stay far enough away from the slayer so that she didn’t sense him until he wanted her too.

“There is no fury like a woman scorned,” he said into the dust filled wind. “Especially when she’s the Slayer.” He smiled, stubbed his cigarette and walked away from the tree. “Time to find out if Lady Luck still loves you, Spike,” he said to himself with a grin, following the Slayer.

Buffy leant against the nearest headstone feeling much better after all the exercise, and after slaying a dozen or so vampires. She felt almost human again and much less love sick and unwilling to beg Angel to stay. Begging was so not her style.

“Hey there love,” the blonde said with a smirk as he walked over to the Slayer, tempting fate. He’d started to enjoy their confrontations and skirmishes, not that he’d ever admit it, even to himself. Or that he kind of admired the little blonde slayer. Buffy spun around to face the voice, stake ready.

“Bloody hell Spike, what are you doing here? I thought I told you to leave and never come back,” she said glaring at him. Great, Spike’s back, just what I needed to make this wonderful week even better, she grumbled to herself. Wondering when he’d returned to Sunnydale and why she didn’t know about it.

“You know me Slayer,” he said philosophically and grinned. “I love to break the rules and see what I can get away with. Why, didn’t you miss me, pet?” he asked spurring the little slayer to start a fight.

“No, I can’t say I did. But then why would I miss a pain in the ass like you, Spike?” she said with a beaming smile, meant to annoy and it hit its mark.

“Tsk Tsk, you sure know how to wound a guy, pet. Especially since I was going to give you a compliment,” he said with a fake sniffle as he wiped a fake tear away.

“You give a compliment?” she asked sceptically.

“Of course, I can give compliments, I’m the image of an olden day gentlemen.” Then added with a wolfish smile, “I was going to tell you that you looked good enough to eat.” Buffy rolled her eyes, and his smile turned vicious. “So, I heard that Angel is leaving you in the lurch, to move to the greener pastures of Los Angeles,” he said savouring the flash of pain in her eyes at his taunt. Or at least he told himself he was savouring the Slayers pain, ignoring the tiny flash of conscience, he beat it down, William the Bloody had no conscience and Spike sure as hell didn’t either.

“That’s none of your damn business Spike,” she yelled, sending a punch at his face, which he calmly caught.

“Is that all you got Slayer?” he asked with a smirk, goading her. “Come on Slayer, let’s dance.”

The fight continued both opponents, enemies, Vampire and Slayer giving their all to the fight, that would most likely end in the fall of one of them. Punch, kick, block, turn, the rhythm continuing until they were both out of breath and panting, circling each other. Until Spike tackled Buffy to the ground and then they were rolling around each trying to pin the other down. Spike finally got the upper hand pinning the Slayer to the ground, beneath him, he’d caught this beautiful Slayer.

He looked up at the sky, which was lightening with the coming dawn and back at the Slayer. He brushed a quick kiss on her lips and stood up and made a mock bow, to the Slayer who was still lying on the ground, “Till next time luv,” he said with a grin and he lopped off to his crypt.

Leaving Buffy to watch, wondering why their fight never ended and why she was never disappointed that she didn’t stake him, the aggravating blonde vampire. She stood up and walked away, towards home thinking about a vampire, but this time it was a blonde vampire…not the dark haired one that plagued her thoughts…and dreams.

The end.
