***A/N In chapter 2, when the Dawns were talking I accidentally wrote that Buffy went to school. What I actually meant to say was that Buffy “left to go check out the new highschool.” Guess that’s what happens when it’s 2am and you’re typing but your brain is not really awake. I’ve already fixed this little mitake in the previous chapter, I’m just writing this for anyone who has already read the chapter and was confused like I was before I checked my note.***
Chapter 4
Part 1: HERE
Willow opened her eyes and saw Tara standing over her.
“Mornin’ sleepy head,” Tara said.
“When did you get here?” Willow asked as she sat up.
“Just now,” Tara said.
“So, the anchor worked?”
Tara nodded and Willow smiled.
“But,” Tara said. “I had an idea about that. If we are going to be hopping back and forth between each others realities all the time it would probably be a good idea to put the anchors in the closet.”
Willow smiled. “In case we have one, or more, of our friends in our room when the other comes to visit.”
Tara nodded. “That way we can just open the door a little and peek in to make sure the coast is clear.”
Willow grabbed the glass container that held the anchor potion off her night stand and handed it to Tara.
“I already put yours in my closet,” Tara said after returning from the closet. “But we should probably remember to keep our closet doors closed.”
“Just in case,” Willow said.
Tara smiled.
***
“So?” Buffy asked.
“‘So’ what?” Dawn replied.
“How was your date?”
“Fine.”
“Fine as in boring, or fine as in the best night of your life?”
“Definitely the second one,” Dawn admitted.
“What did you guys do?”
Dawn groaned. “We went and saw this horror movie.”
“Did you pretend to be scared so you’d have an excuse to snuggle up to him?”
Dawn rolled her eyes. “No, we spent the whole movie critisizing everything about it. The vampires were way fake. You know, the obviously plastic teeth, yellow contacts. There was like no morphing whatsoever. AND, as if that wasn’t bad enough. When they got staked, blood shot out of their chests and it burned humans because it was ‘cursed.’”
Buffy gave her sister a strange look “And the person that wrote that must have some serious problems with the staying connected to reality thing.”
“And don’t even get me started on the zombies!”
“What did you guys do after the movie?”
“We to the diner.”
“Really, what did you eat?”
“ We had burgers and fries. He held the door open for me, pulled my chair out, and paid the check.”
“Was there a goodnight kiss?”
Dawn smiled a little. “Depends, if there was are you gonna ground me?”
Buffy pretended to think it over.
“Buffy!”
The slayer smiled. “Kidding. No, I will not ground you if there were smoochies.”
“Would ya ground me if we had hot, sweaty, monkey sex?”
“Ew,” Buffy said. “I’m tempted to ground you just for saying it.”
Dawn giggled.
“Anyway, back to the smoochies.”
“Smoochy,” Dawn corrected. “Only one.”
“Where?”
“Where on my person, or where on the planet?”
Buffy rolled her eyes. “Planet.”
“Oh, on the front porch.”
“And?”
“And what?”
“How was it?”
“Not the worst experience of my life,” Dawn said.
“You’re terrible,” he sister said, shoving her playfully.
“OUCH,” Dawn said. “What did I tell you about the playful-shoving-with-slayer-strength?”
“Don’t?”
Dawn nodded.
“Anyway, back to the kiss.”
Dawn sighed. “I really don’t have much to compare it with, remember?” She asked. “Unless you want to count that vampire last Halloween.”
“Well, you were kissing Connor when we came back the other day,” Buffy pointed out.
“Yeah, but can you compare someone to themselves?”
“Good point,” Buffy said, smiling. “But, don’t worry. Even though it kills me to admit it, you’ll kiss lots more boys before you find the ‘one.’”
“Yeah, but what if I don’t want to kiss other boys? What if I think Connor’s the one?”
“You’re sixteen,” Buffy reminded her. “I’d be surprised if you didn’t. I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. When you’re sixteen almost any gut that shows interest in you looks like the ‘one.’”
“But you never thought Xander was the ‘one,’” Dawn pointed out.
“Did you miss the part where I said ‘almost?’”
***
“I should probably go now,” Tara said, standing.
Willow looked disappointed.
“Don’t worry,” Tara said. “I have a feeling I’ll be seeing you again real soon.”
“Really?”
Tara nodded. “Weren’t you supposed to bring Anya and Dawn back to my world later?”
Willow smiled. “I completely forgot.”
Tara bent down and kissed her on the cheek, then went into the closet.
Less than a minute later, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Willow said.
The door opened and Dawn stepped in.
“Ready?”
“Oh,” Willow said, sitting up.
“We could do it another time if you’re not feeling well,” Dawn offered.
“I’m fine,” Willow insisted. “I took a little nap. Give me a couple minutes to get dressed, then we’ll go.”
“Good,” Dawn said. “Because I SO need to tell Dawn what happened last night, and Buffy won’t let me go tomorrow because I have school.”
Part 2: THERE
When Willow and Dawn walked up on the porch of the other Summer’s house, Tara and the other Dawn were waiting for them.
“Hey Dawn, guess what?” the other Dawn asked.
“What?”
“We’re going shopping.”
“But I don’t really have any money,” Dawn said.
“So? I’ve been babysitting all summer and I haven’t spent one nickel.”
“Ok,” Dawn said. “What are you gonna get?”
“School clothes mostly. And I saw this skirt that would look great on us.”
“Dawn,” Tara warned.
The other Dawn sighed. “I know, General Buffy said no. But we can try it on anyway,” she grabbed Dawn’s arm. “Let’s go!”
“Be back by seven,” Willow called after the Dawns, but she doubt they heard her.
“Hey, you.” Willow said when her and Tara stepped into the livingroom.
Tara smiled.
“I missed you,” Willow said, kissing her.
“It’s only been half an hour,” Tara reminded her.
“Seems like an eternity.”
They kissed again.
***
“What time are you and Willow supposed to leave?”
“Buffy wants me home by 7:30.”
“Because school starts tomorrow?”
“That and that’s when it starts to get dark this time of year.”
“So your Buffy has a thing about you being out after dark too?”
Dawn nodded. “It’s really kind of weird, though. If you think about it. Vampires are the only ones that have to wait til dark to come out. Demons don’t have the whole sun phobia thing.”
“I think the reason we have to be home by dark is because demons usually wait to wreak their havoc til they can be shaded by the cover of darkness.”
“That could be it.”
“So,” the other Dawn said. “How are things going with you and Connor?”
***
“Wait a minute,” Anya said. “Your Giles still owns the Magic Box?”
The other Anya nodded. “Why?”
“Because our Giles pretty much handed it over to me when he went back to England.”
“So, it’s like all yours?”
“Not really. But I do own half of it.”
“Wow,” the other Anya breathed. “So you get half of the money?”
Anya nodded. “Ofcourse, I also have to pay half of the bills, and when Willow destroyed it last year the insurance premiums went through the roof!”
“Willow destroyed your magic shop?”
Anya nodded. “Yes, after Warren shot and killed her Tara.”
“That’s right,” the other Anya said. “Tara died on your world.”
“Yep. Then Willow went on a dark magic spree.”
“Huh.”
“What did Tara do when your Willow died?”
“Cried a lot, mostly. Of course, there was the whole killing Warren thing.”
“What?” Anya asked. “I didn’t think she had it in her.”
“No one did,” the other Anya admitted. “But after a few weeks she started to calm down, the she became engrossed in the magic, mostly dark.”
“And now?”
“She seems alright. She hasn’t been hanging around the shop as much. I think she’s finally moving on.”
“That’s good,” Anya said.
“Can we play ‘The Game of Life’ now? I thought up some new rules.”
“Ok,” Anya said. “What are the new rules?”
“First,” the other Anya said as she took the game board out of the box, “There is a lot more money. I took the money out of all our other board games.”
“Cool,” Anya said.
“But, there wasn’t any money in that stupid Parcheesi game that Xander love’s so much.”
“I know,” Anya said. “What do they see in that game?”
“I don’t know,” the other Anya admitted. “What is the purpose of playing a board game without any play money in it?”
“I have no idea. Maybe both Xanders are possessed by anti-money demons?” Anya suggested.
They both laughed.
“I doubt it. They probably just haven’t learned to appreciate money the way we do yet.”
“That has to be it.”
“Ok,” Anya said. “What are the new rules?”
