“So what did you get to eat anyway?” Buffy asked.
“Candy bars, snack crackers, sodas, and chips,” Xander said.
“Great,” Buffy said. “The four main food groups!”
“So, we’re sure we checked this place out?” Anya asked. “And nothing’s going to jump out and do anything to us?”
“The place is clean,” Willow said. “Well, as clean as an abandoned warehouse can be,” she amended.
“Ok,” Anya said.
Xander started passing the food out.
“After we eat,” Willow said, “we’ll go check out the next world. See if they have a magic shop, because I remember seeing all sorts of spell books at the Magic Box back home about alternate realities and stuff.”

INTERLUDE 6: part 1
“Where did everyone go?” Connor asked.
“Bed,” Dawn told him. “So I suppose that means you want your bed now.” She got up off the couch and tossed the pillow she’d been crying into on the floor.
“Wait,” Connor said.
“Yeah?” Dawn sniffled.
“Are you ok?”
Dawn sighed. “What do you think? My sister and her friends have been missing for over a week and we have no idea where they are or how to find them.”
Connor just stared at her.
“What?” Dawn asked, getting a little annoyed.
“I... I don’t know what to say,” Connor admitted. “I feel the need to comfort you. Try to take away your pain. But I have no experience in these types of situations.”
“Oh,” Dawn said. “Well, we could just talk for a little while. That usually helps.”
“What should we talk about?”
“We could start with you,” Dawn suggested.
“What do you want to know?”
“How do you know Angel?”
“He’s my father,” Connor said.
Dawn’s eyes widened. “What?” she asked.

Chapter 9: part 2
“At least it’s a magic shop,” Buffy observed.
“Yes, a very old, probably abandoned magic shop,” Willow pointed out.
“Well, there’s books. We should probably get with the research,” Xander said.
“Great,” Anya said. “Research.”
The four of them gathered unenthusiastically around the table and got to work.
INTERLUDE 6: part 2
“Ok,” Dawn said, “let me get this straight. Two vampires conceived a human child?”
Connor nodded.
“And this guy, Holtz, took you from Angel and you guys ended up in a nasty dimension for fifteen or more years.”
Connor nodded again.
“Then when you came back to LA it was only a few months later.”
“Sounds a little far fetched when you put it like that,” Connor said.
“No,” Dawn said. “It sounds kinda cool. At least when you compare it to my story.”
“Your story?”
“Yeah,” Dawn said. “Hope you’re comfy.” She cleared her throat and began. “As near as anyone can figure, it all started a couple years ago. There was this hellgod named Glory and she wanted to get back to own dimension, but she needed this thing called The Key.”
“Really?” Connor asked. “And what was this key?”
“Big ball ‘o energy,” Dawn said. “And these monks were protecting it because if Glory got her hands on it and used it then there would be like a hole in all the realities and other creepy bad stuff would seep into our reality. And apparently that would’ve been bad.”
“And this has what to do with you, exactly?”
“I’m getting to that,” Dawn said.

Chapter 9: part 3
“This is really not helping,” Willow said. “I’ve looked through so many of these dusty and musty books that my eyes are watering and I am having trouble focusing.”
“Well,” Buffy said. “On the bright side...”
“Don’t say it!” Xander warned.
“What?” Buffy asked. “No jinxing here. All I was going to say was at least Giles would love it here.”
“Yeah,” Xander agreed. “Dusty musty books are his favorite things. Like remember a few years ago when Miss Calendar was trying to get him to enter the twentieth century? And he was all ‘Yuck, computers don’t smell.’”
Buffy smiled. “Like it was yesterday.”
“I think we’ve pretty much exhausted all these books,” Willow said. “And we’ve been at this for nearly seven hours. I’m tired and hungry.”
“Well, you guys can take a nap if you want,” Buffy said. “I can stay awake and stand guard,” she offered.
“But, aren’t you tired?” Willow asked.
“Slayer, remember? I can go a long time without sleep.”
“If you’re sure,” Willow said. “I think I’ll lay down for a little while.”
“Totally sure,” Buffy assured her.
“Me too,” Anya said.
“What about you?” Buffy asked Xander.
“I think I’ll keep you company,” he said.
INTERLUDE 6: part 3
“Wow,” Connor said when Dawn was through with her story. “That was... wow.”
“I know,” Dawn agreed.
“And your sister died to save you, only she wasn’t really technically your sister.”
“Yep, then Willow, Tara, Xander, and Anya brought her back. Only she was in heaven and she had a little bit of issues to work through. Of course, she didn’t tell anyone but Spike that she had been in heaven. The rest of us didn’t find out until that musical dem0n showed up and made us all sing.” Dawn paused for a second. “That was extra funny too, with the musical demon because he was going to take me to hell with him ‘cause he thought that I summoned him, but it was actually Xander that had done the summoning so Anya was afraid that the demon was gonna make Xander his queen.”
Connor smiled a little. “You have lead a very interesting, if short, life.”
“I know,” Dawn agreed. “I just hope we find Buffy soon. I really miss her, and Xander and Willow, and maybe even Anya a little bit.”
Chapter 9: part 4
How long was I asleep?” Xander asked.
“About an hour,” Buffy told him with a smile.
“Did Will and Anya wake up yet?”
Buffy nodded. “I guess we’re gonna try the portal again. Since we’ve pretty much exhausted this worlds resources. And,” she added. “I think I’m coming down with a killer sinus head ache from the must and the dust.”
“Hey, sleepyhead,” Willow said when she saw that Xander had woken up. “Everyone ready?”
