INTERLUDE 2:

“So, you guys work for Angel,” Dawn said.

“When we can find him,” Gunn joked.

Fred shoved him playfully in the side.

“Are these all the spell books Willow has?” Fred asked.

“No, but these are the ones she was looking through last time I saw her.”

“And that was when exactly?” Gunn asked.

“Tuesday around three. Buffy let me go shopping by myself for school supplies as long as I promised to be home before dark. When I got home her and Willow weren’t back yet so I called here, but no one answered. I figured they were either on their way home already or they had decided to do a quick patrol.”

“What did you do the next day when you realized they still weren’t back?” Fred asked.

“Well, I called here, but there was no answer. Then I came here, but no one was here. I found that really strange since Anya has been obsessing about being able to open the shop up for business. Then I tried Xander’s and Anya’s, but no one answered.”

“Did you talk to their neighbors?” Gunn wondered.

“Yep. None of Xander’s had seen him since Monday night and Anya’s neighbors had no idea who she was.”

“That’s strange,” Fred observed.

“Not really,” Dawn said. “She hasn’t really lived there that long.”

“Well, I’m afraid I’m not going to be much use in the spell department.” Fred admitted. “None of us will. Wesley was our resident spell man.”

“Why isn’t he working with you guys anymore?” Dawn asked.

“It’s a long story,” Gunn said. “Let’s just say him and Angel had a little falling out.”

“Oh,” Dawn said. “About what?”

“Family issues,” Fred said.

Dawn let the issue drop. “So, when’s Connor coming back?” she asked.

CHAPTER 6:

Willow finished casting the spell and waited. Soon the portal began to form and, one by one, the four of them stepped through.

“Not home,” Xander observed.

“Aw,” Willow said, rushing over to play with the puppies.

“Looks like the magic shop on this world is a pet shop,” Buffy stated the obvious.

“Don’t care,” Anya said. “As long as they have a restroom.”

“You should’ve gone before we left,” Xander joked.

Anya glared at him for a full two seconds before she rushed of in search of a restroom.

“I should probably go too,” Willow said, heading off in the same direction as Anya.

“What about you?” Xander asked.

“What?” Buffy asked.

“Aren’t women supposed to travel to the restroom in packs?”

Buffy rolled her eyes. “That’s just another stereotype men instill on women, Xand. You’d think that after...” She paused.

“What?” Xander asked.

“I do have to go,” she admitted.

“Stereotype my butt!” Xander said. “I think all female bladders are on the same time clock!”

Buffy found Willow outside the bathroom door waiting for Anya to finish.

“You too, huh?” Willow asked.

“Yep. Xander thinks all female bladders are on the same clock.”

Willow rolled her eyes. “Typical Xander.”

A few seconds later, the door opened and Anya stepped out.

“I’m next!” Willow announced as she rushed in to the restroom.

Xander walked up behind Buffy and sighed.

“What?” the slayer asked him.

“Looks like I’ve got a girlie bladder too.”

Buffy smiled.

Anya rolled her eyes and walked off to investigate the rest of the shop.

When Anya let out a blood curdling scream a few seconds later, Xander and Buffy went to investigate.

They found her standing a little over three feet away from a cage filled with bunnies.

“It’s ok Anya,” Buffy assured her as she steered her away from the offensive balls of fluff.

“Why don’t we go check out the back room,” Xander said.

INTERLUDE 3:

“How long have you guys been working for Angel?” Dawn asked.

“Me, about a year. Charles has been working for him longer, but I’m not sure how much,” Fred said.

“What about Connor?” Dawn asked casually. “He seems a little young to be in this line of work.”

“He’s only been with us a few months,” Fred said.

“Oh,” Dawn said. “Well what does he do exactly?”

“You wouldn’t know it by looking at him, but he’s a really good fighter.”

“Huh,” Dawn said. “And what did he do before he became involved with Angel Investigations?”

Fred looked up from her book. “Why the sudden interest in Connor?”

“What?” Dawn asked, startled. “I wasn’t... I mean...” She stammered.

Fred smiled knowingly.

“I...” Dawn sighed. “I wasn’t just asking about him,” she rationalized. “There were some questions about you and Gunn in there, somewhere... I think?”

Fred laughed. “Yeah, about a hundred and twenty-one Connor questions ago.” She sighed. “If you want to know more about him, try asking him.”

Dawn’s eyes widened. “Oh, me? Talk to a boy? That never ends well.”

“I used to be that way too,” Fred admitted. “Heck, I probably still am. Which is why it’s a good thing that Charles pretty much made the first move. But that’s just the type of person he is. Connor’s different.”

“So you don’t think he’ll be making any moves any time in the near future?”

Fred shook her head.

“Great,” Dawn said unenthusiastically. “So, then it’s up to me. But what if, by some miracle, I do get the guts to make a move and he shoots me down?”

“I doubt he’d do that,” Fred said. “He’s not vary skilled with fire arms,” she joked.
