Buffy Summers walked into her high school hand in hand with her best friend, Angel. The two had known each other since birth. Their parents were best friends and they had even lived together for a while when Buffy and Angel were four. Buffy’s house had burned down and so they moved in with Angel’s family.
“Morning Summers,” Xander smiled from the group of lockers she shared with all her friends.
“Hey Xan Man,” Buffy smiled. She and Angel broke away and headed towards their lockers, separated by Willow and Xander.
“Hey, Dead Boy?” Xander asked, opening his locker and shoving books in.
“Xander, how many times have I told you not to call me that?” Angel asked, glaring at Xander.
“Whatever. Anyway, are you coming to the barbeque on Saturday? My Dad needs a number and I’ve heard from everyone but you,” Xander said.
“Yeah, I took the weekend off, so I’m in,” Angel confirmed. Buffy and Willow were chatting idly by their lockers.
“I heard Spike just broke up with Drusilla. Perfect time to sneak in there,” Willow told Buffy, nodding towards the group of black and leather clad boys down the hall.
“I don’t know. He doesn’t even like me,” Buffy sighed.
“Yes he does. He flirts with you like mad whenever you’re alone together,” Willow smirked. Buffy sighed deeply and looked towards Spike. He caught her looking and winked at her.
“Buffy, he just winked at you,” Willow whispered. She grabbed Buffy around the waist and shoved her in Spike’s direction. Buffy wandered over.
“Hey, Spike,” Buffy said, smiling.
“Hey, pet. How are you?” Spike asked. He lightly took Buffy’s elbow and steered her away from his friends.
“I’m good. Sorry to hear about you and Dru.” Buffy said somberly.
“Eh, she’s a crazy loon. It’s better actually. Now I can go out on a date with you,” Spike smirked. Buffy’s eyes widened.
“Really?” Buffy asked, trying to sound coy, but sounding more nervous.
“Oh yes. I’ll pick you up at eight Friday,” Spike said. He lightly brushed Buffy’s cheek and kissed her softly. Buffy smiled broadly as he walked away.
Angel looked on and seethed. His blood started to boil as he watched Buffy and Spike talking. Then he saw Spike kiss Buffy and he nearly punched the wall.
“Man, that sucks. How come bad asses like Spike get all the good, hot girls?” Xander asked, slamming his locker shut.
“Who knows. Maybe it’s that whole teen rebellion thing. I just hope Buffy knows what she’s getting herself into. She’s always been clouded when it comes to guys. She attracts real jerks,” Angel muttered.
“Maybe it’s because she can’t have you?” Willow suggested, watching the show.
“No, it’s not that. Buffy knows we’re just friends. We fight too much. Our relationship wouldn’t last ten minutes,” Angel laughed. He looked past Buffy and saw his girlfriend, Darla, walking down the hall. She was wearing a short black skirt and a tight white top with knee high leather boots.
“Hey baby,” Darla murmured, kissing Angel’s cheek.
“Hey. Sleep well?” Angel smiled.
“You should know. You were in the be with me,” Darla smirked.
“Mm. I think you slept like a rock. You weren’t awake when I left this morning,” Angel commented.
“You could have woken me up, you know,” Darla said.
“You were just too sexy,” Angel commented.
“Uh huh. I’ll see you tonight.” Angel watched Darla walk away, admiring the way her body moved.
“Angel! Did you hear what I just said? I have a date with SPIKE!” Buffy screeched, jumping up and down. She threw her arms around Angel’s neck and laughed.
“Great,” Angel dead panned.
“Shut up, Angel. I know you don’t like Spike, but just be happy for me. Got it?” Buffy demanded.
“Yeah, good for you. I’m happy.” It was the first time in his life that Angel had lied to Buffy.
