In the morning, Spike was stroking Dawn’s hair when she finally woke up. “Spike?” She mumbled.
“Morning, Nibblet,” he said, kissing her hair. “Feeling better?”
“A little. I wanna take a shower today though,” she said, carefully pushing herself up and out of bed.
Spike steadied her and made sure she could walk on her own. “I’m gunna check on Buffy, you okay?” Spike asked.
Dawn nodded and headed for the shower.
Spike knocked on Buffy’s door. “Pet?”
“Hmmm?” Buffy mumbled has she swam back from consciousness.
Spike went over and sat on the edge of her bed. “How are you feeling?” He asked.
“Fine,” she said, smiling as she sat up. “How’s Dawn?”
“Stronger. She went to take a shower,” he said.
“That sounds like a good idea,” she said. She looked at him for a long time and kissed him softly. “Thank you.”
“For what?” Spike asked, softly.
“Pretty much everything. You make me happy,” Buffy said, running her hands over his face.
“Um… I don’t mean to ruin the mood but what about Angel?” Spike asked, a growl seeping through.
“I don’t know. Honestly, I should talk to him, but I don’t think I can,” she whispered, leaning into his arms.
“Kick his ass first,” Spike said, stroking her hair. “Tell him how you feel after.”
“But it’s harder for me,” Buffy said. “I was the one who was raped. And so was Dawn.”
“But I have to sit here and watch you and Dawn suffer and I can’t do anything about it,” Spike said.
“You are doing something about it. Being here,” Buffy said.
“But Dawn comes first. You know that right?” Spike asked.
“Spike, I like having you around and I like that you take care of Dawn. And I want you around forever,” she whispered.
“Forever is long time, Luv,” Spike whispered.
“Forever doesn’t seem like a long time when you’re in love,” Buffy said, picking her head up to kiss him softly.
