Cordelia Chase pulled up to the Harris residence in a beaten up Saab. She hadn’t been a good driver ten years ago and she wasn’t a good driver now. She looked in the rear view mirror and checked her make-up. Of all the people from high school that she had missed over the years Xander was the one she missed the most. With a smile she applied her natural looking lipstick, a far cry from what used to adorn her face, she remembered some of the times that she and Xander had spent together, in closets. It hadn’t meant anything at the time, or had it? Sometimes she dreamt about those times, she would wake up the next morning a little disappointed that it wasn’t really happening.

She got out of the car and walked past the Lexus, wondering who else could be at the Harris residence with that kind of car. Shrugging she walked past it, and continued on up the front walkway.

“He’s not going to laugh at me,” Cordelia repeated to herself, “he’s not going to laugh at me. Why would he laugh at me? I am not laughable.”

She got to the front door stared at it for a moment, turned around as if to walk away, and then turned back around just in time to see Xander open the door.

“Xander?”

“Cordelia?”

Neither of them could believe what they saw. Xander was looking at a beautiful, seemingly down to earth woman and Cordelia was looking at, well, a man. They both stared dumbstruck at each other, nonbelievers of maturity.

“Where are you going,” Cordelia managed to squeak out.

“For a drive, maybe a little ice cream, maybe a trip to some of the old haunts. Well, the only old haunt that we had,” spoke Xander softly.

“Ohh..”

Xander fumbled with his keys, then looked up at Cordelia, who looked away from him and started to turn around.

“Wait, uhh…do you want to come with me?”

A smile spread across Cordelia’s face, and she nodded her head in acceptance. The animosity that used to be between them was gone, and Cordelia’s eyes shone like the gods had placed the stars in them. Xander walked past her and she turned to follow him, he walked to the Lexus and a stunned Cordelia stopped and looked on in disbelief.

"When could you afford a car like this?”

“Well, being a doctor has some benefits.”

Cordelia slid into the car, reminding her of days spent in her father’s vehicle. Xander got into the car, but didn’t start it. He just sat staring at Cordelia. Feeling his intense gaze, Cordelia started to blush.

“Xander, what are you looking at?”

“No one has called me that in a long time. I get Doctor Harris from all the patients.”

“Doctor Harris, how refined, so not like the Xander I used to know.”

“Underneath all these fine clothes, I’m still as unrefined as ever.”

Both started laughing which soon subsided and the two were left in silence again.

“Have you kept in touch with anyone, since, you know..,” asked Cordelia.

“No, not at all.”

“Do you think that you should start the car?”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

Xander started the car and Cordelia looked out the window, touching her fingers to the glass as she watched people go by. Xander unexpectedly turned the car around and floored the
gas. Cordelia was a little frightened but she clenched her teeth, holding in a little yell. Xander spun the car so that it was right in front of the gates to the cemetery. It had begun to rain and it pattered on the roof.

“Come on,” Xander said brusquely.

He got out of the car, and walked over to Cordelia’s side opened the door and pulled her out. She said nothing, she was too scared. She just let him pull her along. Her hair was plastered to her face, and his shirt was stuck to his body, revealing his nicely worked upon frame. He dragged her along behind him and walked until they reached the grave that had just been visited by Willow. He flung Cordelia, who was by this time sobbing, to the ground and stood there for a moment. He knelt down, put his head in his face and cried. Cordelia got up and knelt beside him, pulling his hands away from his face, she took his chin in her hand and stroked his cheek making him look in her eyes. They looked at each other and fell into each others arms.

“Xander, it is not your fault. It never will be. You saved someone’s life, you didn’t take one.”

“I, I can still hear the screams, Cordelia.”

“You need to move on,” she whispered in his ear as she kissed him lightly.

“There are people that love you, need you, depend on you.”

“You know, I only became a doctor to impress you,” he said quietly, a smile playing on his lips.

“Somehow, I think that you became a doctor in an effort to amend what happened with Giles. You thought that if you could save others lives than you would be redeemed for what happened with Giles.”

“Well, what are you, a psychiatrist?”

“Actually, yes.”

For a moment they looked into each others eyes, then Cordelia started to get up, but fell down again, when she slipped on the wet grass, and took Xander down with her. Their chests heaved for a moment while they caught their breath, and then Cordelia started laughing, and Xander joined in with her. She rolled over, until she was on top of him.

“You always did like to be on top, didn’t you?”

She silenced him with her finger on his lips, and then proceeded to kiss him on the neck. She started unbuttoning his shirt, noting the Armani label, following the buttons with kisses. Cordelia stopped for a moment, aware of the rain on her skin, aware of a presence beside her and Xander’s.

“Oh, God, Xander, we’ve got to get out of here,” yelped Cordelia.

“Huh?”

“Move it!”

Cordelia scrambled up, Xander in tow with a vampire on their heels. Slipping and sliding the whole way, the two managed to make it to the main road and watched in surprise as a figure jumped from a tree and dispatched the vampire.

“Buffy,” asked Xander.

“Nope,” the figure answered turning around, “the other friendly neighborhood vampire slayer, although this one sticks to dating the living and has made the choice to remain a brunette."

“It’s Courtney,” Xander replied.

“Courtney would be,” said Cordelia.

“Courtney, my sister’s best friend, and the other slayer. The one Buffy’s been training.”

“Question answered.”

“Why don’t you two lovebirds get outta here, there may be other neck aficionados lurking about, you know lurking is what they do best.”

“Great,” interjected Xander, “see you at the house later.”

With that Xander and Cordelia rushed off, back to the car, back to being alone, back to kissing.
