The night was calm and peaceful, and Buffy sluggishly walked down the road, the middle of it in fact, quietly humming to herself. Entranced with the moon, she began spinning around, gradually making her way off the road and smack dab into a stop sign. She crumpled to the ground with a sigh, and didn't notice someone's strong arms pick her up and take her back to her house.
Once Angel reached Buffy's house he took a look down at the girl in his arms with the massive bump on her head and then turned his head upward to her window.
"I haven't done this for over a century," he murmured, then easily hopped up to the roof below her window. Slinging Buffy over his shoulder, he lifted her window and brought her into her room. He placed her on the bed, shook his head slightly and pulled off her sneakers and socks.
"Oh...Xander, you know how much it turns me on when you do that," whispered Buffy in a very breathy voice. Angel narrowed his eyes and abruptly dropped her shoes to the floor. He brusquely pulled Buffy's covers over her body, and as he was turning to go, he saw Buffy's eyes flutter open and as they adjusted to her surroundings a flicker of recognition crossed her eyes and she half moaned-half murmured, "Angel."
"Hey," all the anger he had felt quickly leaving his face, "You got a pretty nasty bump there. I don't recommend singing to the moon while intoxicated and then running into stop signs."
"Who's intoxicated," Buffy responded, trying to get up in her bed but miserably failing and falling back down on her pillow.
"Let me go get you an aspirin. Is your mother home?"
"No, she went...somewhere," answered Buffy groggily.
A few moments passed and Angel returned with the aspirin and some apple juice.
"How did you know that apple juice was my favorite?"
"Because," answered Angel matter-of-factly, "apple juice is my favorite, well, you know, second to..."
"Blood?"
"Yeah," Angel answered sheepishly. He sat down next to her on the bed, and stroked her hair as she swallowed the juice and the aspirin.
"Angel?"
"Yes?"
"Would you sleep with me," questioned Buffy very innocently.
"What!?"
"Oh, no silly billy not *that* kind of sleep, sometimes I get a little scared when I'm all by myself," Buffy exclaimed as she nestled down next to Angel.
"Don't you want to be asking Xander that question?"
Buffy's eyes shot open, she turned and sat up, with difficulty, and touched Angel's face. She was frightened by his coldness but was hurt even more frightened when he turned away from her.
"Where did that come from?"
"When I was taking your shoes off you said something to the extent of, 'Oh...Xander I love it when you do that to me! Are you seeing him or something, because I thought that you and me, and we were, and you loved..."
"Umm, Angel. I think that it's time we stop kidding ourselves. I could never love you, Xander and I have been seeing each other, and we love each other, and I'm totally kidding. You do know that I am just slightly drunk?"
Recovering from his initial shock, Angel looked up with a little smile on his face. "Yeah, I pretty much figured that out when you walked into the stop sign."
Buffy smiled and traced her finger across his lips, "I love you."
Angel lowered his eyes and then turned back to Buffy's face and looked her directly in the eyes, "I...I love you." She turned back around and fell down into her bed. Angel just sat there, a little relieved that Buffy would probably never remember anything that happened tomorrow.
