After about two hours of discussing, a suitable defense strategy was planned. The plan was to make it seem like only Giles, Buffy, Willow, and Xander were in the library. They would appear to be researching something. They would look totally oblivious to a coming attack. When the attack starts, Spike and his gang would be very surprised to find out that the gang was prepared with weapons and holy water. Angel and Cassandra would come out from hiding to fight as well. Their presence would definitely even up the odds.

“So, that’s the plan?” Asked Xander.

Buffy answered. “Yeah, Spike will be caught off guard when he finds out we were prepared. I hope that is enough.”

“It will be.” Said Cassandra, trying to reassure everyone.

Giles spoke up. “Buffy, Willow, Xander, you three should go home. We have a big day tomorrow.”

Everyone started to leave. Buffy and Angel decided to walk every one home, just in case of attack. Before Cassandra could leave, Giles stopped her. “Cassandra, could you stay for a bit. I have some questions to ask. There are some gaps in the watcher’s diaries that I was hoping you could fill.”

“Sure.” Said Cassandra with a uneasy smile. She did not like talking about her life before becoming a vampire, but she did not want to be rude and refuse to talk. She liked Giles, for a watcher he was actually pleasant to be around. [ I wish I had someone like him when I was slaying. It would have been a big help. ]

“This shouldn’t take too long. When were you born?” Giles asked.

Cassandra sat down again at the table across from Giles. “1766.”

“How old were you when you were called?”

Cassandra sighed. [ He should know all of this information. It should be in the diary. My watcher was very thorough with records. He was an idiot with everything else, but he took good notes. ] “I was fifteen.” Cassandra then looked straight at Giles. “You should have all of this information already. What do you really want to know?”

Giles took off his glasses and met Cassandra’s gaze. “It’s just that the events that happened on January 16, 1785 is missing. You watcher’s last entry tells that you were going out to fight Angelus that night. He was killed before he could write another entry, and you just seemed to disappear. Can you tell me what happened. I need to know for the council’s sake.”

Cassandra just shook her head sadly. “Why?”

“He was one of our own. We would like to know what happened to him. You are the only person we can get this information from.”

“Mr. Giles, I know that you probably have read about what happened to him. However, you are not too sure on who killed him, but you have your suspicions. Why don’t you just ask me?” Cassandra asked with a hint of defiance in her voice.

“Did you kill him?” Giles asked matter of fact like.

“Yes, I did. It wasn’t one of my most noble of actions.” answered Cassandra.

Both Giles and Cassandra was silent for a minute. Giles just sat there digesting the information. He remembered reading about the condition that Cassandra’s watcher was in when he was found. It was probably one of the most brutal killings on record. It was written that it looked like he had been tortured for hours, if not days. His heart and other internal organs were then ripped directly out of his body. His body was found at the gate of the Watcher’s Council headquarters in London. He was barely recognizable when they found him.

Giles was amazed and a little uncomfortable that he was sitting directly across from the very woman that was responsible for this brutal murder. However, this killing was not unlike many of her other kills. Cassandra was one of the most brutal and powerful vampires on record. The fact that she, like Angel, had a soul was incredible. He wanted to hear more about it, but Giles doubted that he could get her to tell the complete story.

“Do you need anything else?” Asked Cassandra, finally.

Giles broke from his revere when he heard Cassandra’s voice. “No, I think I have all I need.” Giles said nervously.

Cassandra got up to leave. As she was about to walk out the door, she suddenly stopped and turned around. “Mr. Giles, I know that you have probably read about me; and you probably know all of the nasty things that I did, including the way I killed my watcher. I just want you to know, that isn’t me anymore. Every since I got my soul again, it all stopped. Please, give me a chance to help you and your Slayer. It is the least I can do.”

“Every since Angel, the concept of a vampire with a soul hasn’t been new. Anyway, according to the test, you do have a soul. We will need your help tomorrow, and possibly beyond that.” Said Giles.

“What are you saying? You mean, you want me to hang around Sunnydale?” Asked Cassandra, very surprised.

“We could always use the help. Buffy could always use the help.”

Cassandra smiled weakly. “I’m not sure Buffy wants me around.”

“Why wouldn’t she want you around? You could be a big help.”

Cassandra shook her head. “Mr. Giles, did you notice how uncomfortable she was around me tonight? I’m the very embodiment of her worst nightmare. I was a Slayer that became the very thing that we are supposed to destroy.” [ I also used to sleep with her boyfriend. ] Cassandra neglected to mention what she was thinking, it seemed inappropriate.

“Uncomfortable or not, Buffy needs your help. You’ve gone down the road she is going down. You’ve been the Slayer. You can advise her in ways that I cannot.” Explained Giles.

“Hopefully, she won’t make the same mistakes I did.” Said Cassandra in a low voice.

“I’m asking you to stay in Sunnydale for a while.”

Cassandra pondered what he was asking her for a bit. [ I really want to help, but I sure hope I don’t end up regretting this. ] “Allright, I’ll stay here for a while. Thank you for asking. You don’t know how much this means to me for someone to actually want me around.” Cassandra smiled. “I’ll see you tomorrow night.” She then turned around and left the library.
