As she left Cassandra’s hotel, Buffy decided that it was time to talk to Angel. Quickly, she made her way over to his apartment. The sun was just going down, so she figured that he would be getting up by now. Buffy hesitated for just a moment before knocking on the door. She was greeted by a very groggy looking Angel. “Hey Buffy.”

“Hey Angel. Did I wake you?”

Angel shook his head. “No, I just got up.” He then moved out of the way of the door and gestured for her to come inside. “Come on in.”

Buffy entered the apartment. She was dreading this, but she knew they had to talk about her recent discoveries. “Angel, we were doing some reading up on Cassandra.”

“Yes, what did you find?” Asked Angel, he was clearly curious.

“Well, for one, I found out that Cassandra’s name is really ‘Mary Williams.’ She used to be the Slayer.”

Angel nodded. “Yes, she was.”

“You told me that you sired her.” Began Buffy. “Giles found the diaries of her watcher at the time. It mentions that almost all of Cassandra’s family was killed.” Buffy looked away from Angel. “They were killed by you.”

Angel sighed. Waves of guilt flooded over him. “Buffy, you know that I didn’t have a soul during those times.”

“Yes Angel, but it is just freaking me out. I don’t like to think about when you didn’t have a soul.”

“I know Buffy, it is hard for me too. You shouldn’t have to deal with this.”

“Angel, I found out where Cassandra is staying.” Buffy turned around to face Angel again. “I talked to her not too long ago.”

“What did she say?”

“She admitted that she used to be the Slayer, for one. Also, she admitted that you killed her and her family.”

“Buffy, it was a few of the many horrible things that I did when I didn’t have a soul. Cassandra was one of many victims.”

“Tell me what happened?” Asked Buffy.

Angel sighed. He did not want to share this with anyone, especially Buffy. “Why? You said yourself that you didn’t want to think about this.”

“Angel, I don’t want to think about it. However, for some reason, I just have to know. I don’t want you hiding anything from me.”

“Buffy, there’s a lot you don’t know about me. Believe me, you don’t want to know the details of my past. It is better this way.” Argued Angel.

“Angel, I don’t want any secrets between us!” Buffy yelled. She was getting more angry as this argument went on.

Angel shook his head. He knew that he was defeated. “I met Cassandra in the late 1700s when she was the Slayer. She was about your age at the time. Over the course of a few years, I killed off most of her family. I wanted to make her suffer before she died. When she was nineteen, I killed her and turned her into a demon.” Angel had given Buffy the short version. He did not tell her of the way he killed off Cassandra’s family and the extent of the mental torture he inflicted on her. He just could not bring himself to telling Buffy these things. Some things had to remain secret. Angel believed it was better for her.

Buffy knew that Angel had not told her everything. She knew that he only told her a brief overview. She saw the pain in his eyes as he told her what little he said. Buffy decided to drop it for now. She did not want to have any more pain about his past. Buffy came up to Angel and kissed him. Buffy and Angel then just held eachother in an embrace without saying anything. It was over for now. Buffy decided not to push anymore about this subject.

Spike’s Factory: 8:05pm

Spike awoke to find that he was alone in bed. He wearily climbed out of bed. After getting dressed he entered the main room of the factory and found Drusilla playing with her dolls. “How long have you been up Ducks?” Asked Spike.

Drusilla looked up at Spike and smiled. “Since before the sun went away. Miss Edith wanted to play.” Drusilla went over to where Spike was. “She also told me that you went to see an old friend last night.”

Spike had not told Drusilla of Cassandra’s arrival into town, and of his discoveries that her soul had been restored. He knew that she would not take the news well. “Yes Pet, Cassandra’s in town.”

Drusilla’s face brightened in a huge smile. Her eyes shown with happiness and excitement. “Cassandra is back? Why didn’t she come see me?”

“Pet, things have changed. She’s not...”

Suddenly Drusilla screamed and started to shake. “No!”

Spike grabbed her. “What is it?”

Drusilla yelled. “When I started to think of her, I saw a vision. I saw her!”

“What did you see, Love?” Asked Spike.

“She’s surrounded! Surrounded by awful things! Surrounded by....goodness!” Drusilla said the last part with obvious contempt.

Spike shook his head. He did not want to tell her this part. Spike embraced Drusilla to try to calm her down. “That is what I was trying to tell you. She is like Angelus, she has a soul.”

Drusilla’s vision had passed, she had calmed down a little. She then got angry. “A soul! We lost another one of our family to a soul?”

“Yes, it looks like it. I talked to her last night. She is definitely changed.”

“I can’t believe this! We could have so much fun with her with us again.”

“I know Pet. This doesn’t change anything. The attack is still going to happen tomorrow night, and the Slayer and her friends will die.” Stated Spike in a confident tone.

“What if Cassandra helps them? Miss Edith says that Cassandra is still as strong as she used to be.”

“It will happen so fast, she or Angel won’t have time to go and help them.” Said Spike with a reassuring smile.

Willie’s Bar: 10:15pm:

Cassandra sat at the bar drinking and minding her own business. She needed a drink. The stress of the last few days had gotten to her. She wanted to forget about everything. Unfortunately, because of her vampire physiology, she was not getting drunk as fast as she wanted to. After many shots of tequila, she had not even began to feel a buzz. She would be here for a while.

This bar seemed to be a haven for the undead. Cassandra spotted about five vampires in the bar when she came in, and she did not care. She would stay out of their way if they would stay out of hers. This would not be the case tonight. Out of the corner of her eye, Cassandra spotted a burley vampire coming toward her. [ Damn, I don’t want to deal with this now. ]

He sat down on the barstool next to Cassandra. “Let me buy you a drink?”

Cassandra did not even turn to face him. “No thanks, I’m fine.”

“I’m Steve, and you are?”

“Not interested.” Answered Cassandra while rolling her eyes.

The other vampire was not giving up anytime soon. “I haven’t seen you in town. Did you just come in?”

Cassandra sighed. She was in no mood for this, but she did not even have the energy to get rid of the annoying vampire. Suddenly, Cassandra got an idea. [ If I talk to this guy, I might get information of what’s going on in town. ] Cassandra liked to be informed as to what the undead population was up to in any town she was staying in. Cassandra hated surprises. She then slipped into her soulless vampire persona. “I just got in town a few days ago. You?”

“I’ve been around for about six months.”

“Ah, so you’re young.”

The other vampire was moving closer to Cassandra. “I’m old enough.” Replied the vampire with much innuendo.

“Who do you work for?” Cassandra asked.

“Why do ask?” Answered the vampire suspiciously.

Cassandra shrugged, trying to remain nonchalant. “It’s good to know who the major power is in a town.”

“I work for Spike. Have you heard of him?”

“Yeah, I’ve heard a few things about him.”

“You should join up with us. We got something coming up that I know that you would love to get in on.”

[ I had better get to the bottom of this. ] Cassandra put on her best evil smile. “Really, and what would that be?”

The vampire smiled. “The Slayer. Her and her support group are all going to be at the same place tomorrow night. We attack in force.”

“How do you know that they will be at the same place?”

“We’re making them think some new demon is in town. Then, they will all go and research at the School library. About twenty of us come in and attack. The mortals won’t stand a chance.” The vampire answered with a cocky smile.

[ This vampire is such an idiot. I think he could probably win a stupidity award. Oh well; bad for Spike, good for me. ] “I think I like this idea.” Cassandra said with an evil tone to her voice. “Take me to Spike.”

“Sure. Afterwards, do you want to go have some real fun? I’m sure we can find something to occupy our time until the attack.” The vampire said with a wink.

Cassandra smiled seductively. “I’m sure we can.” The two vampires headed out of the bar.

After about five minutes of walking with this vampire, Cassandra was about to go insane. All her companion was doing was going on and on about how many people he had killed. It was the normal thing that male vampires did to impress female vampires. In the middle of a story about how he killed off an entire household, he stopped to ask, “Hey, you never did tell me your name.”

Cassandra looked around. She wanted to make sure she was alone before she made her move. There was no one around. Quickly, Cassandra pulled out the stake that she always carried. Before the other vampire had time to react, Cassandra plunged her stake into his back. Before he turned to dust, Cassandra said with a smile. “My name is Cassandra.”

The vampire turned to dust. “Moron!” Cassandra exclaimed out loud.

Cassandra suddenly switched gears. She had to warn Buffy of the attack. [ Where would she be? Angel should know. ] Angel had given Cassandra his phone number. She quickly went to the first pay phone that she found and dialed Angel’s number. [ I hope he’s home. ]

After about three rings, Angel picked up. “Hello?”

“Angel, it’s Cassandra. There’s trouble coming.”
