Buffy and the gang do not belong to me. I make no money from this.

Part Six

Merric walked over to her in a measured pace, a bemused smile on his face. He breached the small area that seperated them and stood in front of her. He took a gloved hand and put it to her chin. Gently her closed her mouth.
"I take it your surprised." He said in his cultured English voice.
Buffy in one swift movement yanked herself free of Angel and was a few feet away from him. Merric looked surprised. He moved towards her and every step he took towards her, she took one backwards. Until finally she was practaclly on top of the desk.
"Oh dear. This is not having the effect I thought it would." The old man said.
Merric held up his hands once he got a foot away from her. He seemed satisfied that she couln't walk away.
"Buffy. Listen to me. It's all right. It's all right." He repeated.
Buffy still looked like she would bolt if she had the room.
Merric gave her one of his reassuring smiles she so rarely got when she knew him. It tugged at her in ways things rarely could.
"Your dead." Buffy pointed out shifting slightly on the desk.
"And so are you." Merric told her.
Buffy was about to argue that was different. Then visibly she accepted it and rose off the desk. She eyed him wearily trying like hell to act casural. She opened her mouth to say something and closed it unsure what. Merric smiled fatherly down at her.
"I've been waiting here for you, you know. A part of me was hoping that I wouldn't see you this soon." He told her.
"I'm sorry." She apologized.
Merric shook his head. "No. No. I'm proud of you. Extreamly proud. I know all you had to go through. I've seen what you've done. You have had to deal with more things than any other Slayer had. You handled it well." He explained.
Buffy nodded regaining her composer. She walked over to Angel and rested on his arm. She threw a look to the others. She saw Giles' face that he knew who Merric was.
"So Buffy. Aren't you going to introduce us to your friend?" Xander asked.
"This is Merric. My first watcher." She told them not reacting to their stunned looks. They had never thought of Buffy having a first watcher.
"This is Willow, Xander, my new watcher Giles, and Angel." She said pointing everyone out.
Merric had walked over to her. He touched her hand briefly. Angel tensed.
"It's time to go. I'm here to help you." He told her gently. She didn't move. "You'll see them later."
Buffy wasn't looking at him, she was looking at the desk. Her mind was made up.
"No." She said flatly. "I'm not going."
