Buffy, Angel, Giles, Willow, and Xander are not mine. They do not belong to me.

Part Two

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A book slammed down in front of her and Buffy snapped awake. She jumped in her chair and stared at the small old man in front of her. He was maybe an inch taller than Principal Snyder. He had a full head of white hair and his startling blue eyes looked tired. He was maybe sixty or so, frown lines shown clearly on his face. He was dressed a bit sloppily like he had been working for days on end. It was something she had seen Giles do on a handful of occasions. He was standing behing a desk with a very large book in front of him.

Buffy sat in a high backed leather chair that dwarfed her. She looked around not understanding any of this. She was in a library but not the school library. This one was bigger and had rows and rows of stacks of books as far as she could see. The man coughed polietly. Buffy turned her attention back to him. He settled down in his chair.

"Now can we get down to the business at hand." He said not wanting to waste any time. He opened the book.

"Wait a minute. What business? What's going on?" Buffy asked more than slightly paniced and disorientated. The man sighed, wearily looking at a peace of paper on his desk.

"I have delivered this speech an astonomical amount of times. Buffy Summers your dead. You were killed by a horde of vampires." He raised his eyebrows. "Huh, I don't get to tell many people that. But then again you are a slayer so it does fall in the category of occupational hazard, I suppose." He was loosing his track of thought and visibly got back to the subject. "Now that your dead you have to go somewhere. So at the moment your in limbo. Everyone who dies ends up here first. I get to go through all your sins and decide where you go from here." He finished.

Buffy binked. "I'm dead?" She said in a low voice. The little man rubbed the bridge of his nose wearily.

Xander decided that this placed sucked. He had been wandering around stacks of books for God knows how long. There was no end to them. He stared down the isle and the ending was no where in sight. He looked upwards and saw no end there either. Yeah, this is how he always imagined hell. He had tried screaming for someone but no one showed. Maybe no one was here. He walked onwards not picking a straight line. Every so often there would be a turn and he would always take it. The pattern was random and he had no thought into it. And most likely it would get him no where.

He saw another corner and trotted around it. He ran smack into someone. Xander jumped back and saw Giles. Xander grinned wildly. "Giles!" Xander yelled and wrapped the bewildered librarian in a bear hug. Giles made a small sound that might have been a scream if Xander had loosened his grip. Xander put Giles on the ground. Giles took a step back regaining his breath. Xander looked at Giles and his huge grin faded. Then Xander backed away from Giles.

"Your dead." Xander accused.

"Yes I do seem to remember being...bludgended." Giles said looking haunted as he struggled with the right word.

Xander was nodding himself. "Um. Giles I remember dying too. In the warehouse with Angel there. Buffy and Willow were there somewhere too." Xander paled as he remebered how his neak had snapped. "What's going on?" He asked. Giles shook his head at a loss. Wordlessly they walked together. Giles automatically taking the lead and Xander happily letting him.

Angel lent against on of the shelves with his eyes closed. He clung to the image and sensation of his death. Watching Buffy helplessly as he knew she would be alone to deal with the vampires. He didn't know how he had gotten here. He had screamed for Buffy for hours it seemed. His throat was sore and his heart was in turmoil as he thought of what had happened to her. Maybe this is hell, he thought. Doomed to be alone for the rest of eternity. Hopelessly thinking he would never see her agian. That he let her down. That he let all of them down.

He remembered Buffy's scream as she had discovered Giles' broken body on the libary floor. As she scooped him up in her arms cradling his dead body. Angel had never seen Giles disheveled and to see the proud man like that..Angel had heard the sound of Xander's neak as it shattered, unable to rid the sound from his memory. He suddered as he remembered Willow lying in her blood on the floor. And Buffy, how did she die? How did she suffer? How long did it last? An ocean of fear surged through him as he realized it may not be over. She could be a vampire. That thought almost made him sink to the floor. Not for the first time in the past hundred years did he with he could pray.
