Buffy walked back down the stairs, finally having gotten the strange people--and Cordelia, not that she wasn't strange--settled in. They were all stuck in the same room, despite the fact that Cordy and Gunn seemed to want to keep the younger two away from each other.
There was time for another sweep, she decided. She'd go around.... Not go by Spike's crypt, and kill a few more vampires.
The street was pretty much empty. There were a few cars--the neighbors coming home from work. That just struck another nerve inside of her; slaying didn't exactly pay much.
It did save most of the free world--Sunnydale, anyway--but it wouldn't keep Dawn fed, and it wouldn't keep the house. She'd have to get a regular, part time job.
But for now..... She almost smiled, but not quite, raising her stake in anticipation as she saw a vampire coming down the street. Then she lowered the stake.
"Expecting someone else, love?" He smiled, coming out of the darkness.
"Someone that can actually do some kind of harm," she told him, delighting in the opportunity to get in some kind of a dig at him.
"I can do harm," he reminded her, offended.
"Sure you can. You just get an exploding headache whenever you do." She smiled brightly.
"I'm just as evil as the next vampire," he shot back.
"Right." She rolled her eyes, trying to push past him. He grabbed her arm, and wouldn't let go, whispering into her ear.
"Aren't I?" She pulled away, shoving him as she walked.
"Stubborn, aren't you?" he called after her, getting up to follow.
She walked, trying to get away from him, but found herself in his cemetary. "Good job, pet," he congratulated her. "Now, we just go into the crypt...."
"No. No, I'm here to slay the vampires," she said, fully aware of how unconvincing she sounded.
"Sure you are. Come on in and slay me, pet." He smiled, pushing open the door. She glanced around again for an instant, then followed him in.

"So, you're not a friend of Buffy's?"
"We're with Cordelia," said Maria, replying to Dawn.
"Cordelia; that's cool," returned Dawn, paying practically no attention to her. Her eyes were following Nibu around the room instead.
"Yeah. She'll get better," he said absently, picking up a statue to stare at it for a moment.
"That was Mom's," said Dawn, quiet for a moment.
"I'm sorry for your mother," said Nibu. "Cancer sucks."
"How'd you--"
"We just know," said Maria, responding to Dawn's unasked question.
"But how? Who are you two, exactly?" She started frowning and backing away.
"I.... Am Nibu. The legend," he said. "And this..... Is the Wordstreamer."
"Right," said Dawn. "And neither one of you is just completely insane?"
"Nope," said Maria.
"Okay. I'm just going to go.... See Cordy and Gunn." She backed all the way out of her room, then went down the hall.
"So, what're we going to do?" asked Maria, staring at Nibu.
"Something awesome," he said, coming closer to her and kissing her. After they finally stopped, he pulled away. She did the same, smiling a little. Then she went back to seriousness.
"I meant, what're we going to do here? I mean, we know all about them, but not why they're here. And honestly, I don't know if I want to."
"I guess..... We just go with it," he said, fingering her hand.
"And what happens if--nothing's going to happen to you, right? I mean, this could be dangerous. Los Angeles; Sunnydale, they're different from Acmolo."
"I'll be fine. But I don't know about you."
"Remember after you saw me in a fight; you said you'd stop that? So stop," she told him.
"Okay," he told her, sighing exaggeratedly.
