Scene 1
{Buffy and Dawn are staring at Xander wondering if he is really serious. Xander's smile fades as he waits for them to answer.}
Buffy-Um...sure you can stay here as long as you need to. I thought you were in LA doing construction.
Xander-I was.
Dawn-What happened?
Xander-Wolfram and Heart.
Buffy-Did they do something to you?
Xander-To me and the rest of the crew. Something had happened with one of their clients...something to do with our construction crew. Wolfram and Heart have connections, and well...they shut us down.
Dawn-Poor Xander.
Buffy-Well, I'm glad you're hear.
Xander-Thanks for being so welcoming. Oh and did you hear about Angel?
Buffy-You mean that is going totally crazy, was offered a job at Wolfram and Heart, took it, and is now the big CEO of an evil law firm?
Xander-So I guess you do know.
Dawn-Andrew told us.
Xander-Andrew?
Dawn-Yep. He begged Buffy to let him come to Rome with us. She gave in.
Xander-Does he stay here too?
Buffy-No! No...he has an appartment about twenty minutes away.
Xander-Gotcha. Any demony things come after you yet?
Buffy-Everything was pretty quiet for a while and then earlier today something was after some kids. It was getting into their nervous systems and slowly killing them. I don't remember all of the details. The point is, it's dead.
Xander-So, the Slayer is back in actions?
Buffy- You could say that. It's the first demon in a while so, either it's a coincedence or the start of some new evil thing.
Dawn-I hope not. What would happen if we had to face something worst than the First?
Buffy-I don't even want to go there. Don't want to go there at all.
Xander-Maybe I'd get my other eye poked out and we wouldn't want that to happen.
Dawn-You still making jokes about it?
Xander-Every now and then.
Buffy-I am really sorry about that. Before I could do anything Caleb just started-
Xander-Don't worry about it. I don't mean to be the annoying house guest, but where am I going to sleep? Is there an extra room, a sofa?
Buffy-We have a guest room.
Xander-Oh, a guest room, uh?
Buffy-Yeah. Dawn, why don't you show Xander where it is?
Dawn-Okay. Follow me.
{Dawn takes off down the hallway and Xander follows her. Buffy watches them.}
Scene 2
{Joyce and Andrew are still in the same place. Andrew is standing by a door and Joyce is across from him. Both looked thoughtful.}
Joyce-She handled Kelgar pretty well. I knew that she could take him on, but I must admit that Buffy surprised me a little. I can't believe she did. I am her mother after all.
Andrew-You're going to conjure another demon?
Joyce-Of course. I already told you that I was going to keep testing her. Um...let's see...what would be a good demon for her?
Andrew-I know this one demon.
Joyce-Really?
Andrew-Well, I don't actually know him, but I do know how to conjure him. The only problem his that Buffy has faced him before.
Joyce-Well, then that will not do. She needs something brand new. Something strong yet not too strong.
Andrew-If only Jonathan was here.
Joyce-Excuse me?
Andrew-My best friend. He always knew the best demons to conjure back when I was a part of the trio. Then Willow killed Warren and the First convinced me into killing Jonathan.
Joyce-I see. Sorry for your loss.
Andrew-Yeah...
Joyce-Demon...demon...demon...I can't believe it's taking me so long to think of a demon.
Andrew-I know. There are so many, but we can't even think of one.
Joyce-Maybe we should do some research and find a demon. It's obviously not working from memory.
Andrew-Yeah, okay.
Joyce-I'll go get some books. You stay here.
Andrew-Wait.
Joyce-Yes?
Andrew-I just remembered a demon that we, the trio, were going to conjure. It was way back when we were trying to kill Buffy. We never got around to it though...
Joyce-I see. What exactly does this demon do?
Andrew-Um...well...
Joyce-Well?
Andrew-It's a very strong demon.
Joyce-I know that, but what does this demon do?
Andrew-He rips peoples' heads off and eats their brains.
Joyce-Thanks for sharing. What makes you think this will be a good test for Buffy?
Andrew-Well, like I said he is very, very strong and actually smart. He has more common sense than most demons.
Joyce-Uh, uh. I don't know if we should...
Andrew-I don't think we have a choice.
Joyce-What do you mean? I'm the one who's supposed to give you the orders. It's not the other way around. If I don't think a demon's good enough, then we will not use that demon. Understood?
Andrew-Yes...it's just that...I kinda already conjured him.
Joyce-Great. Where is he?
Andrew-Um...
{The camera zooms out and we see a very large, scary demon hovering over her. We cannot see most of his features due to the lack of light. However, we do see his glowing red eyes and large body.}
Joyce-Is he here?
{Andrew shakes his up and down.}
Joyce-Where is he?
Demon-I am here!
{Joyce turns around and is startled to see the demon standing behind of her. Before she has time to react the demon reaches out and rips her head off. The camera cuts to Andrew who is mortified. We hear a slurping noise and then the demon throws something down. The camera moves over to reveal Joyce's head. Camera fades out.}
Opening Credits
Scene 3
{Xander is lying in bed with the covers a little bit down revealing his chest slightly. His arms are behind his head and he's staring up at the ceiling. There is a knock on the door.}
Xander-Come in.
{The door creaks open and in comes Buffy. She's in her pajamas.}
Buffy-Hey, Xand.
{She walks over to him and sits down on the side of the bed. Xander pulls the covers up a little bit and brings his arms down by his side.}
Xander-Hey, Buff. What brings you here?
Buffy-Well, it is my house.
Xander-Yes, but you know what I meant.
Buffy-Yeah. Why did I decide to come visit you in the guest room? Just felt like talking. We haven't seen each other in...in...
Xander-A really long time.
Buffy-Yeah. Just wanted to see how you were dealing with things.
Xander-Everything's okay, I guess. I'm still pissed off at Wolfram and Heart for making it so I don't have a job any more.
Buffy-Bet so. I know this is kind of a...um...personal question...but...
Xander-What?
Buffy-I know that...that night...Anya...passed away.
Xander-Oh.
{Xander looks down and then back up at Buffy. He looks upset and tears are forming in the corners of his eyes.}
Buffy-I didn't mean to make you...I just knew how much she meant to you and I know how hard it is to loose someone that close to you...
Xander-It's fine. I just...haven't really thought about it that much. At first I wanted to act like everything was okay...but then later on I couldn't help but think...wish that it had been Andrew instead of her. I guess it was her time. Maybe that D'Hoffryn dude was right. Maybe no matter how much she hid or got saved from his henchmen...what she had done was bad and she was going to die for it.
{Buffy looks at Xander for a moment, confused. She then quickly changes her expression as if she remembered what he meant.}
Buffy-You talking about that one time where she reversed that spell and then decided she wanted to become human or something again...D'Hoffryn was all pissed off at her?
Xander-Yeah.
Buffy-You seem to be handling it well.
Xander-Really? Well, I'm not.
{Xander pauses.}
Buffy-You okay?
Xander-She was the first person I every truly loved. I mean there was that whole Cordelia thing, but it wasn't love. God, I wanted to marry Anya so bad. Why did I have to leave her at the altar? After that I had so many regrets. Sometimes I wished she would find someone to wish that something bad happened to me. What I put her through...it must have been hell. If only I couldn't seen her one more time...told her that even though so many bad things had happened between us, that...that I loved her...I still do.
Buffy-I think she already knew. All of us could see it. When you two were together, even if you were fighting, we could still see the spark. You shouldn't feel so bad.
Xander-But I do and it's not so easy to just...get over. How...how in the world did you deal when you had to kill Angel, and were by yourself?
{Buffy looks down and then back up at Xander. She now has tears in her eyes as well.}
Buffy-I don't know. It was just...so horrible and I had to be alone. I had to get away...I thought that if I started over I would forget. It just made things worse. I should've gone to you guys. You helped me out so much when my mother died. If only I had you before that.
Xander-How long did it take?
Buffy-A really long time. I don't even remember...it's so much of a blur. Every time I think about that day...I still get sad and then the tears come back. I know how much you loved Anya and loosing her...without even seeing her one last time...
Xander-It is pretty hard. Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, I don't know how I can go on with my day.
Buffy-I know. It's so hard, but you have to hang in there. The few months are the hardest. Then it gets a little easier.
Xander-God, I miss this so much.
Buffy-What?
Xander-Just being able to sit down with you and talk like the old days. It brings back a lot of memories.
Buffy-Yeah...it does.
Xander-You know, you're the first girl I ever had a real crush on.
Buffy-Xander...
Xander-I know you know. When you arrived at Sunnydale, man, my life changed so much.
Buffy-Xander...
Xander-I even asked you out to the dance...now it seems so stupid, but...I really did like you. And I don't mean to be jealous or anything, but every now and then when I see you with some guy, I can't help thinking what if that was me?
Buffy-Xander...
Xander-I know, going a little over board. My point is that I really like you Buffy and I'm fine with us being friends. In fact, you're the best friend any guy could have.
Buffy-Thanks. You're not such a bad friend yourself.
{Buffy reaches over and hugs Buffy. The embrace for a moment and then Dawn opens the door. Buffy and Xander quickly pull away, blush, and stare at Dawn.}
Dawn-Hey, guys. I didn't interrupt anything, did I?
Buffy-Nope. We were just catching up on some quality...friend time.
Xander-Yep.
Dawn-Sure. Well, I'll leave you two alone.
Buffy-No, I mean...we were just getting ready to come into the kitchen and eat some breakfast.
Xander-Yes.
Dawn-Okay then.
{Dawn walks out and Buffy and Xander look at each other. They then start to laugh.}
Scene 4
{Andrew looks very scared as he stares down at Joyce's head. He then looks up at the demon.}
Andrew-You just ripped her head...right off.
Demon-Yes. I thought you realized that when you conjured me.
Andrew-Yeah, but...
Demon-Thanks, by the way. Now, it's time to suck her brains out. You gonna watch so you can see what will happen to you?
Andrew-Uh...
Demon-I don't really care.
{The demon picks up Joyce's head and is getting ready to suck her brains out, when suddenly her head disappears from his hand. The head flies over to her body and reattaches. Joyce slowly stands up and moves her neck around.}
Joyce-That hurt!
{The demon and Andrew stare at her in disbelief.}
Joyce-Yes, I am corporeal and also indestructible. Now, I think this demon could possibly work as a test for Buffy. We'll send him after her, but we also need another demon. Andrew, be looking around in books.
Demon-What makes me think that I'm going to do any of the work that you want me to do?
Joyce-You'll se.
{She looks at the demon and her eyes begin to glow a bright red color. The demon is in a trance. As her eyes return to normal the demon begins to turn around.}
Demon{on his way out}-Yes, master. I will kill Buffy for you.
Joyce-Good. Oh, but please, be careful. She's a strong and skilled one.
Demon-Yes master.
{The demon exists.}
Andrew-So you do mind control too?
Joyce-Yes. It's one of my many talents.
Scene 5
{Buffy and Dawn are sitting at the table while Xander is standing by the stove making pancakes.}
Buffy-I didn't know you cook.
Xander-I don't. At least not most of the time, anyway.
Dawn-Have you ever make pancakes before?
Xander-Nope. Anya...um...she would make the pancakes and waffles.
Buffy-Well, I'm sure you picked up a few pointers.
Dawn-By the way, did I really walk in on something? Is there...a litte more than the whole freindship thing going on between you two?
{Buffy and Xander look at each other and blush.}
Buffy-Nope. Just giving my buddy Xander here a hug. It's nice to have him back.
Dawn-Oh.
Xander-Buffy's right. My heart doesn't belong to anyone right this moment.
{There is silence and then Dawn looks over to Xander. There is smoke coming from the pan.}
Dawn-Uh, Xander, the pancakes are burning.
{Xander quickly snaps out of his daze and turns off the stove. He walks over to the sink, with the pan, and washes it off.}
Xander-Oops.
Dawn-You're a great cook.
Xander-Well, I try.
Buffy-Look, it's okay. We have some cereal if you want some.
Xander-I'm not that hungry. I was mostly cooking these for Dawn. I don't think she wants them.
Buffy-She could always just scrape off the crispy black stuff and eat it.
Dawn-The whole pancake is a crispy black thing.
{Xander, Buffy, and Dawn laugh.}
Xander-I told you I didn't cook much.
Buffy-We know...we were just...teasing you. Now Dawn, you gonna eat?
Dawn-Nah. The whole smoke and burt pancake thing made me loose my appatite.
Buffy-You sure? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Dawn-And look who is also skipping it.
Buffy-Fine. If you're not hungy, don't eat.
Xander-Wow, I'm glad I missed this.
Dawn-What?
Xander-You guys going at it.
Buffy-We don't do it that much.
Dawn-Are you kidding? Buffy always starts stuff with me.
Buffy-I so do not! If anyone's starting anything, it's you!
{Dawn smiles and then changes her voice to mimic Buffy.}
Dawn-Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Buffy-I did not sound like that!
Dawn-Yeah, you did.
Buffy-Xander?
Xander-Whoa, I'm staying out of it.
Buffy-Fine. Dawn?
Dawn-What?
Buffy-Appoligize.
Dawn-Why should I?
Buffy-Because you started arguing with me.
Dawn-Did not!
Xander-Okay, I think that's enough.
Buffy-Xander's right...we're acting like we're ten and three again.
Dawn-Okay, whatever. What are we doing today anyway?
Buffy-I don't know. Maybe we can show Xander around Rome.
Dawn-Sounds cool.
Xander-Hey, a tour. Just what I wanted.
{Just then something burts through the door. Buffy gets up followed by Xander who is followed by Dawn. There is a demon standing in the living room. It's the same one we saw Joyce send after Buffy.}
Buffy-Guys, get back.
{She walks forward as Dawn and Xander stay put.}
Buffy-You know, most demons don't just walk around a city during the day and break into a person's house. Lucky for you, you're in MY house. Now your ass is so going to be kicked.
Demon-I am here to serve my master. She tells me to kill you.
Buffy-Great. I don't care what you master said, you're not touching me.
Demon-We shall see.
{Buffy stands her ground and prepares herself to fight. The demon lunges at her and trys to grab her shoulders. Buffy moves to the left and kicks him in his stomach. She then punches his face. The impact sends him onto a nearby table and it breaks. He falls with it and Buffy walks back over to him. The demon quickly gets up and attempts to grab Buffy again. She ducks and swings her leg underneath his. However, the demon was ready this time. He jumps over her leg and grabs her shoulders. Buffy trys to get free, but his grasp is too strong. Xander sees that Buffy needs some help so he grabs a phone and hits the demon. The demon does not loosen his grip on Buffy. Buffy starts caughing and the demon starts to pull her neck to the side. Buffy looks around and doesn't find a weapon. She struggles to bring her head up a little bit and then throws it back on the demon. He lets go and Buffy falls to the ground. She holds her throat and stands back up.}
Buffy-You just officially pissed me off. You better not even come near me.
{Buffy gets ready to attack the demon when he suddenly runs out of the door.}
Buffy-Hm...guess I scared him.
Scene 6
{Joyce and Andrew are waiting impatiently for the demon to return.}
Andrew-Did you really want him to kill her?
Joyce-No. Do you remember the plan? It's to give Buffy tests. Make her go up against demons that will challenge her but not ones that will harm her...as in make her dead. That demon was strong, but...not strong enough to hurt Buffy. He's either dead or running back here.
Andrew-Oh. When can I go see Buffy again?
Joyce-When the time is right.
Andrew-Yeah, okay.
{The demon walks in.}
Joyce-Well, what happend?
Demon-I was just about to rip her head off when...I don't even know what she did, but she got me to let go of her. I knew I was going to lose so I ran away.
Joyce-You ran away?
{She turns to Andrew.}
Joyce-Some demon you conjured.
Andrew-How was I supposed to know he'd run away from the Slayer? Most demons are all for killing her.
Joyce-Yes, I guess they are.
{She turns to the demon.}
Joyce-So, you got a name?
Demon-Yes. It's Topsal. Most people just call me "that demon."
Joyce-Hm...Topsal. Sounds a bit like topsoil.
Demon-Yes. Many demons make fun of me.
Joyce-Oh well, a name is just a name. I want you to go after Buffy again.
Andrew-Why?
Joyce-Because he failed at his first attempt. I'm going to give him a second chance.
Demon-What if I die?
Joyce-Not my problem. Just fight your hardest. You're like, what, five times Buffy's size?
Demon-She does have a great amount of strength.
Joyce-I know. Anyway, you'll try again.
Demon-When?
Joyce-I'm not sure. You can't go right now though, it's way too soon. She needs time to gather her thoughts and figure out what demon you are. They're probably doing some research on the Internet or something right now.
Demon-Will they find out how to kill me?
Joyce-More than likely. I just want to see how fast they do figure it out.
Andrew-Are you sure your plan will work?
Joyce-It's been working so far. These tests are going to be good for Buffy. She'll grow as a person and we'll learn more about her. That way, when the final fight comes, we will be ready. We'll know her strengths and weaknesses more than we did before. Are you still confused?
Andrew-Just a little bit...I understand most of it, I guess anyway.
Joyce-Well, like I've said before, if you don't understand, it's okay. It isn't quite time for you to play your role in all of this.
Andrew-But you will tell me when it is time?
Joyce-Of course I will. Now, back to this demon business. I'd say, wait a couple of hours and then go back.
Demon-Are you sure that is enough time?
Joyce-I am sure. Buffy also won't expect you to be going back to her house as soon as you are.
Scene 7
{Buffy, Dawn, and Xander are gathered in the living room around the laptop. Dawn is sitting in front of the computer typing away. Buffy is on her right and Xander is on her left.}
Buffy-Have you found anything out yet?
Dawn-Nope.
{Buffy sighs and turns to Xander.}
Buffy-I don't think I've fought a demon like that in a while. He was really strong. There was a minute there when I thought he had me.
Xander-What was he trying to do anyway, rip your head off?
Buffy-Who knows? I'm just glad I'm still here. Good thing for the Internet. Without Giles's mini library, it's kinda hard to find things about demons. But, Dawn's quite the little researcher. Like I said, good thing for the Internet.
Dawn-Yeah...I sure wouldn't be in the mood to read books.
Xander-Willow and Giles did most of that. I tried to read the books and find the demons...but Xander and books don't really go together.
Buffy-I know. I don't think I ever picked up a book to do research. Patrolling was my specialty. Gosh...I kinda miss the things we did together...it seems like ages ago.
Xander-I know what you mean. It's only been about a three or four months that we've been apart, but it seems like so much longer.
Dawn-Oh! I think I found something. This is the guy right?
{Dawn points to the computer screen. Buffy leans over and looks to where Dawn's finger is pointing. She nods her head.}
Buffy-That's him.
Xander-Topsal? That's a name. Sounds more like topsoil.
Buffy-I'll say one thing, the names of demons are sure getting lame.
Dawn-Don't you want to hear what it says about Topsal?
Buffy-Oh, right, yeah...
Xander-Read away.
Dawn-Okay. It says that he rips off the heads of his victim's and feeds on their brain.
Buffy-Eww...talk about gross.
Dawn-There's more. He is usually hired, or conjured, by someone that has a grudge against someone. That person tells him who to go after and bam, he rips off their head.
Xander-That doesn't sound good. You don't think someone's after you, do you Buffy?
Buffy-I don't know. Two demons in a row is a little suspicious. It's hard to say though. If it was like ten demons, it would be a little more obvious.
Dawn-Wanna know how to kill this guy?
Buffy-Uh, uh. How?
Dawn-Well...oh...you have to rip off his head.
Buffy-Actually rip it off?
Dawn-I'm sure slicing it off would have the same affect.
Buffy-Good. Slicing I can do. Just need a sword or something.
Xander-That demon will definitely wish he never messed with the Buffster.
Dawn-Yeah.
Buffy-Do you think he's gonna come back?
Dawn-Probably. Whoever wants him to kill you will send him back.
Buffy-Good. Then I'll be ready for him.
Scene 8
{Joyce, Andrew, and Topsal are in the same place as they were before. Joyce looks calm and so does Topsal. However, Andrew looks a little scared.}
Andrew-You want me to do what?
Joyce-Act as bait. You are to go to Buffy's house, with Topsal close behind of course, and enter. Topsal will come in and attack you. Buffy will then get ready to fight Topsal.
Andrew-Yeah, but why can't he just come in and attack her instead of me? It makes no sense.
Joyce-I do not want him to attack Buffy right away. She will also be expecting him to do that.
Andrew-The point is she's expecting him to attack again anyway. Why does it have to be me?
Joyce-I do not have time to argue with you. You are going to go to Buffy's house and pretend like nothing is out of the ordinary.
Andrew-Fine, whatever.
Joyce-Good. Topsal, are you ready?
Topsal-I've been ready for quite some time now. I can't wait to attack the small blonde one.
Andrew-He knows not to kill me, right?
Joyce-Yes. Buffy will not let him anyway.
Andrew-I don't know...she and Dawn don't like me very much.
Joyce-They've saved you before, they'll save you now. I think you guys should leave now.
Topsal-Yes, master.
Joyce-I just love the being called that. "Master." It just sounds so...it makes me feel so...I don't know, evil.
Andrew-You are evil.
Joyce-Uh...just go. You know the plan already I'm not going to explain it again.
Topsal-Let's go.
Andrew-I'm coming.
{Andrew walks up the basement stairs followed by Topsal.}
Scene 9
{Buffy is standing up in the living room with a sword in her hand. She's holding it out and looking it over inch by inch. Xander and Dawn are watching her.}
Buffy-Where did you say you found this?
Xander-It was in the basement with a lot of other stuff.
Buffy-Oh, really? We have a basement?
Dawn-Uh, uh. You know that door over by the kitchen that we never opened? Well, turns out it leads to a basement.
Buffy-Cool. I wonder why there was a sword in there. Kinda odd if you ask me.
Dawn-Maybe another Slayer lived here. Okay...maybe not.
Xander-It is a little strange, but hey, it's enough to chop that demon's head off.
Buffy-Yep. I wonder when that demon is gonna show up.
Dawn-I'm betting any minute.
{Just then there is a knock on the door. Buffy goes to get it.}
Buffy-Since when do demons knock?
{She opens the door to reveal Andrew standing outside.}
Andrew-Hello to you too Buffy. May I come in?
Buffy-Uh, sure...I guess. Come inside.
{Andrew enters and Buffy closes the door.}
Andrew-Cool sword.
Buffy-Thanks.
Dawn-Xander and I found it in the basement.
Andrew-Are you killing something?
Buffy-We're planning on it.
Xander-Buffy's going to use the sword to chop of the demon's head.
Andrew-There's um...a...demon?
Buffy-Yes. His name is...top soil or something.
Dawn-It's Topsal.
Buffy-Whatever.
{Andrew quickly glances out of the window next to the door and sees Topsal coming. He looks back at Buffy, Dawn, and Xander and then moves a little closer to the door.}
Xander-I'll say one thing, if that demon doesn't get here soon we're gonna be-
{He is interrupted as Topsal's hand busts through the door and grabs Andrew's throat. Andrew cries out and Buffy quickly runs to his aid. She holds her sword out and tries to get Topsal's hands off of Andrew's throat. However, Topsal moves and punches through the door. Still holding on to Andrew, he makes his way into the house. Buffy kicks him, but Topsal doesn't loosen his grip. Buffy gets closer and takes a swing at his head, but he moves over. Topsal attempts to kick Buffy. She tries to move out of the way, but his leg makes contact anyway. Buffy looses her balance and falls forward, dropping her sword. Topsal lets go of Andrew, who falls to the ground, and makes his way over to Buffy. Buffy pulls herself up. Once she is fully standing, Topsal comes up behind of her and grabs her shoulders. Buffy grabs his hands and brings the back of her head against his face. Topsal stumbles, but still keeps his grip. Buffy grabs Topsal's hands again. She tightens her grip, bends her knees, stands back up, turns, and twists his arms. Topsal cries out in pain, but still comes after Buffy. He tries to grab her throat, but Buffy ducks, does a forward roll, grabs her sword, and stands back up. She funs forward, jumps, and does a front kick. She hits Topsal right in the chest. Topsal falls down to the ground and Buffy walks over to him.}
Buffy-Time for you to die.
{Buffy raises the sword and brings it down. Topsal blocks the sword and kicks Buffy. Buffy stumbled slightly, but remains her grip on the sword. She swings again, but Topsal ducks. Buffy does a side kick followed by a round house kick to Topsal's face. He falls once again, and Buffy quickly goes over to him. She raises the sword, brings it down, and chops of Topsal's head.}
Buffy-Told ya you'd be dead.
{She turns to the others.}
Buffy-Are you okay, Andrew?
{Andrew slowly stands up.}
Andrew-I think so. Thanks Buffy.
Buffy-No problem.
Andrew-I think that I should...be going now.
Buffy-Okay...um...see you later, I guess.
{Andrew walks out the door.}
Dawn-For a minute I thought he had you.
Buffy-Who?
Dawn-Topsal.
Buffy-Oh, right. He so didn't almost have me. I was prepared to kill him.
Xander-What was up with Andrew coming in right before the demon attacked? Do you think it followed him?
Buffy-I don't know. I don't really care. I just want to get some sleep.
Xander-That's a good idea.
Dawn-Yeah. Hey, Xander, try not to make burnt pancakes again in the morning.
Xander-Not to worry. My cooking days are over.
Scene 10
{Andrew enters the basement. Joyce is still standing there.}
Joyce-I don't see Topsal, so I assume that Buffy killed him.
Andrew-Yep. She chopped off his head.
Joyce-Just like I thought she would...I'm surprised she didn't do that when he first attacked her. I guess it's because he ran like a baby. Next time, let's get a demon that is a little more courageous than that.
Andrew-Okay and how about next time, I'm not the bait. There was a second there when I thought that Buffy wouldn't be able to free me.
Joyce-Really?
Andrew-Yeah. In fact, she never really actually freed me. Topsal got bored with me, dropped me, and moved over to fight Buffy.
Joyce-I'm sure she was just a little off today.
Andrew-Why are you so easy on her? I mean...for an evil person you sure seem...pretty not evil.
Joyce-With every new demon we send after her, I'll become more..."evil." Seeing her fight and learning how she reacts to a slightly more powerful demon each time will prepare us more. We need to learn even more about Buffy than we know now. That way, we will be better suited for our final battle.
Andrew-Are you ever going to tell her about you?
Joyce-She'll probably figure out that I'm here herself, with time. Now, enough small talk. We need to start thinking about another demon.
Andrew-I'm out of ideas.
Joyce-Well, start reading from those books I have.
Andrew-Fine...
Joyce-I don't want to get to advanced with the demons this soon...but I do want something a little different than your average demon.
Andrew-Okay.
Joyce-A demon that...will surprise her. Maybe I should start reading as well. Those books are pretty thick.
{Joyce picks up two books. She hands one to Andrew and keeps the other for herself.}
Scene 11
{Buffy, Dawn, and Xander are lying on the couch in their pajamas watching TV. Xander is on the left, Buffy is in the middle, and Dawn is on the right with her head rested on Buffy's shoulder. They all look like they are going to fall asleep any minute.}
Buffy-You guys awake?
Xander-Oh...yeah.
Dawn-I'm up.
Buffy-I was just about to say I'm going to get some sleep. There aren't many opportunities to sleep for me...or there haven't been in a while. I need all the sleep I can get.
Dawn-Yeah. My eyes are really heavy. I could just sleep here.
Xander-I'm tired myself. Not used to the time zone here.
Buffy-A little jet lag?
Xander-I guess that's what it is.
Dawn-Yeah. It took us a few weeks to get used to it too.
Xander-A few weeks?
Dawn-Or, you know, days.
Buffy-Yeah.
Xander-I hope it's only a few days.
Dawn-I'm gonna head to my room. Goodnight guys.
{Buffy and Xander reply at the same time.}
Buffy-Goodnight.
Xander-Goodnight.
{Dawn gets up and heads over to her room. Xander and Buffy remain on the couch alone.}
Xander-You did some good demon killing today.
Buffy-Thanks. You think I'm rusty?
Xander-Na...you chopped Topsal's heads off in record time.
Buffy-Come on. Poor Andrew was about to choke over there.
Xander-Okay, maybe you are just a little rusty. It won't be for long though. I know Buffy and she doesn't stay rusty long.
Buffy-Uh, uh. I think I'm gonna go to bed now too.
Xander-Right behind you.
{Buffy and Xander get up and walk down the hall. They then enter their own rooms.}
Scene 12
{Joyce and Andrew are both flipping through the books, trying to find a demon to send after Buffy next. Suddenly Andrew looks up.}
Andrew-I think I found one you'd like.
Joyce-Oh, really?
Andrew-Yeah.
Joyce-Let me see it.
{Andrew hands the book to Joyce. She quickly scans the page and then smiles.}
Joyce-This will definitely do.
{Camera fades out.}

Scene 1
{Buffy is lying in bed tossing and turning. There is a flash and we see a man coming after her. Buffy tries to run, but he grabs her throat and starts choking her. Buffy suddenly wakes up. She looks in the mirror and there are red hand marks on her throat.}
Scene 2
{Buffy, Xander, and Dawn are sitting in the kitchen.}
Dawn-So what are you saying?
Buffy-I was dreaming and in that dream this man was trying to choke me. When I woke up, I found hand marks on my throat like someone had really been chocking me.
Dawn-You sure you didn't maybe do it yourself? Like...while dreaming you were grabbing at your throat thinking you'd get rid of the guy?
Buffy-No, not like that.
Xander-It is a little strange.
Scene 3
{Joyce and Andrew are talking.}
Joyce-Good work. I think she's spooked.
Andrew-Um...thanks. Next time she goes to sleep, he'll try to kill her again.
Joyce-Nice. Let's see how she handles this one.
Scene 4
{Buffy is talking to Dawn and Xander in the living room.}
Buffy-I just had another dream. The same guy was trying to stab me this time and look.
{Buffy pulls up her shirt to reveal a small cut.}
Xander-Uh, you sure you didn't have that before you started dreaming?
Buffy-Yes. I'm positive.
Dawn-So, you think there's a demon trying to kill you in your dreams?
Buffy-I guess. It sounds kinda stupid, but...what else is there to think?
Scene 5
{Buffy is lying on the couch and suddenly starts tossing and turning. Xander and Dawn walk over to her and try to wake her up. She doesn't open her eyes and starts crying out. Then there is a red spot on her shirt. We then realize that that spot is blood and it gets bigger.}
Xander-Buffy, wake up!
Dawn-Buffy?
{Both keep shaking her but she doesn't wake up. Meanwhile, she is loosing more and more blood.}
Voice-Will they be able to wake Buffy up? Will they ever figure out what the demon is or how to defeat it?
