It's so sparkly thought Willow absently admiring the necklace Tara had given her for her birthday last year. It was perfect she thought. So perfect. When Tara had given her the neck lace she'd not really liked it. She'd been polite of corse and said it was beautiful. Tara had seen right through her and smiled.
Look at it," she'd said
"Isn't that what I'm doing?"
"No, I mean your looking but you're not seeing,"
"Huh"
"I mean see it, look deep,"
Willow had looked and looked but all she saw was a dark green stone on a silver chain. Then suddenly as if by magic (which Willow thought afterwards was quite possible) the edge of the stone glowed blue and the green jewel burst into light and colour so bright. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She feared the people would suspect magic. but when she looked around no one had reacted at all.
"Don’t...don't they see it?" she asked curiously
"No, because in there eyes nothing happened. They walk around aimlessly looking but never truly seeing the most beautiful thing in the world,"
"And..," she stuttered, "whats that?,"
Tara smiled and leaned closer "Nothing," she siad passing her hand over the jewl
Willow looked down to find nothing but the plain stone she had seen before
"The most beautiful thing in the world can never truely exist yet they keep looking, praying that in amongst all this dark there is a reson to live,"
"I don't get it," she siad confused
"Don't you see,, this the most beautiful this, the most beautiful thing you have ever seen is nothing more than a stone. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
"I stll don't get it,"
"You will"
"Nother beer please" said Willow drunkly
"Uh I think you've had enough Miss"
"I said give me a bear," she paused and clmed herself, "please" she added bating her eyes at the young bartender
"Well" he siad under the redheads innocent stare, "one more can't hurt"
He was the fourth one to say that to her. He poured her drink silently while she sat thinking.
"You know" she said turning to the woman next to her
"I'm tired of people with therelove. we should all be happy and sparkly... like tinker bell, she was so sparkly, Tara was sparkly to,"
The woman turned and a look of discust crossed her face.
"Hey," stutterd Willow, "I know you, you were Percy's girlfreind...it's me Willow, from the party,"
"I remember" she said getting up "nice to see you," but Willow (though thourely drunk) could still make out the sarcasem
"You to!" She yelled back
"You know who else was sparkly," she siad turning back to the bar, "Oz, he was real sparkly," she hiccuped as she siad it.
Suddenly reliseing what she'd said she wiisperd quickly to the bartender, "don't tell Tara, oh god please don't tell Tara," she weept
"Willow?"
Willow turned to see Anya standing there looking sopping wet
"Oh," whimpered Willow, "more sparkly people,"
"We gotta get you home come here," she sighed taking hold of the would-be wicca she hauled her out of the club
As they walked along the street rain poring down Willow mumbled something to Anya about not telling Tara.
"I won't" she assured her, assuming she meant about the being drunk,"
"Or Oz," Willow added quickly, "can't forget Oz,"
They walked on for a couple more blocks in silence.
"Anya," Willow said abruptly turning to her as they reached Buffy's house.
"Yes,"
"I know we don't get along all that well but I need to talk to you about something," She said almost pleading as a fresh wave of tears washed down her face if she could just tell some one how she felt... just ask for help maybe she'd be ok,
"I...."
But before she could get another word out they were interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Ann?" came Xanders voice from the dark, "is that you?"
"Oh," said Anya quietly to Willow," Can it wait? I don't want to be here for this. You head in side k" without waiting for an answer she darted down the street leaving Willow to sit all alone with no one but her self for comfort.
"Ann," Xander's voice came again
"Xander," muttered Willow softly
"Hey Wills what’s up?"
"Nothing just..." she trailed off
"What?"
Willow looked up at Xander blearily. Staring fixedly at his eyes she said with a smile, "Lovely weather we're having," before passing out on the porch.
