Angel tapped his pencil on the desk of his meeting table as one of his translators droned on in some ancient demon language that involved a lot of gargling with a nasty beverage he wanted to know nothing about. He was about to call this boring meeting to an end when he sensed someone familiar approaching the door. Someone so familiar, that just sensing her there made his blood race.
Buffy, a voice in his mind said. Just thinking of her sent chills down his spine. Angel leaped up out of his chair and rushed to the door. He swung it open and came face to face with his soulmate, the love of his life, and one of the current Slayers.
"Buffy." Buffy nearly melted right there on the spot. Just saying her name said so much to her. Those two syllables sent her a thousand words.
"What are you doing here? I mean not that I'm not really glad to see you, really glad, but uh, why are you here?" Angel suddenly became aware that he was babbling and being rude by making their conversation known to the entire building. Buffy lindly pointed that out.
"You're babbling and it's nice to see you too." She flashed him a big smile. She looked great he had to admit. Wearing a cute red top that that cut off at her neck and a pair of hipphugger jeans and some boots to top it off.
"Can we talk? In private, I mean."
"Oh yeah, sure um, meeting dismissed." Angel said, ignoring the dirty looks of his clients as he ushered Buffy into his office.
"Whoa. You have an,um, variety of clients. And what's with the the demon drink?" Buffy shuddered.
Angel gave her a small smile and said,"Why don't we talk in my room, or we can stay in here, or we can go some place else...whatever you want."
"Your room is fine, thanks." She didn't have the slightest idea where his room might be, but she figured he would be most comfortable there. Angel lead her to the elevator in his office.
"An elevator, huh? You're like Mr. Lawer man with the elevators and cool werapons and stuff. Betcha love it."
Wow, did that sound stupid or what? she asked herself. Did I always worry about sounding stupid infront of him? Has spending so much time apart changed things that much between us?
"Well having this kind of job does have it's perks. So Buffy, I'm glad to see you, but why are you here?"
he asked sitting on his bed. She sat down next to him. It was sooo comfy. She wanted to sprawl out on it and take a long nap on it. With Angel of coarse. But now wasn't the time. She imeadietly stood back up and started pacing his room. What she had to say definetly was not easy.
"Okay, see I'm kinda looking for a sense of direction. Straight to the point and skipping the metaphors, I have no place to go. I have always wanted a normal lifebut this--I just can't take not fighting anymore. There has to be something I can do that doesn't involve helping little old ladies cross the STREET!" Buffy sighed and sat back down next to him. "I just don't know what to do."
Angel was shocked by Buffy'y sudden appearence and even more amazed at what she had to say. He really wasn't sure what to tell her. I mean he knew what he wanted to tell her, but that may not be best for buffy. And that's all he wanted. For her to be happy.
"Buffy there's a hellmouth in cleaveland. You could go there. I could set you up and--"
"Giles already has two new slayers there and he's training them really well. I stayed there ror a while but I really wasn't that much of help." Buffy interupted." I just told them stuff that Giles needed to tell them."
"I seriously doubt that." Angel sai giving her a critical look.
"Okay, well I didn't feel like I was helping at all. I felt like i was getting in the way. I felt old, too." she said with a frown.
"Well at least your catching up to me." Angel smiled warmly at her.
"Yeah, only 220 years to go." she joked.
Angel then looked into her tired eyes. "Listen, why don't you get some sleep. We can talk about everything in the morning."
She flashed him a grateful look."Thanks, but where do I sleep?"
"My bed seems the best place. I can tale the couch for tonight."
"Or you can stay with me, I mean if you want to, you don't have to."
"I think I can do that." It wasn't that he didn't try to say no, it's just those eyes. Plus he didn't wanna say no. He layed down next to her and pulled her petite form closer to him. She snuggled her head into the crook of his neck and breathed in his scent. God I've missed this, she thought.
Buffy looked into his eyes and was greeted by his lips. Cold, but so soft and welcoming. They broke off and and she closed her eyes. Angel looked down and kissed the top of her head. He wished that they could stay like this forever. He looked down and saw Buffy snoozing lightly. He smiled. Some things never change no matter how much time passed.
********************************
"Okay, we so need to wake up sometime. Don't you have buisnessy meetings or something lawer related like that?"
"Why so eager to get rid of me?" Angel started to get up but found it hard to relinquish himself from Buffy's strong embrace.
"Oh no. You are not going anywhere. We have lost time to make up for." She pulled him back toward her, kissing him lightly in the lips.
For hours they talked. Buffy filled Angel in on everything about Dawn and school and Angel told her all about him and Cordelia. They talked about anything and everything. Never once did they bring up Spike and they were just fine with that. Buffy wasn't ready to talk about that and Angel accepted that. It was hours until they got up out of bed. Then Buffy realized she really had to pee.
"I'm going to go and clean up a bit. Brush my teeth and stop being such a lazy ass."
"Hey, being lazy isn't all that bad." Angel stated trying to pull Buffy closer to him.
"I know but I really have to pee." She got up and stepped lightly into the bathroom. Buffy used the restroom and started the bath water running. She dumped all kinds of pretty smelling soaps and bath oils into the rushing water. She undressed and was about to ask Angel to join her when she heared voices in the other room. Buffy placed her ear to the door and listened closely.
"--should have told me you bloody bastard!"
"Spike she just showed up last night wanting to talk. She was already stressed enough, I couldn't tellher then--"
"What do you mean you couldn't tell her then? It really is quite simple. 'Oh Buffy, I love you, kiss here kiss there, and oh by the way, Spike's back from the DEAD!"
Spike could contain his anger no longer.
Buffy leaned against the wall un able to comprehend what she was hearing. Spike, alive? She just couldn't understand. Tears rolled down her face uncontrollably. She slid down the wall and landed down the griund with a small thump ignoring the yells in the other room. Buffy started to breathe again slowly taking time to process everything.
Buffy then stood up and washed her face. She threw on one of Angel's buttondown shirts and opened the door. Angeol and Spike stopped fighting the moment they saw her, almost frozen by her presence, mouths open. Spike's face lit up and he moved toward her while Angel grinded his teeth in disgust. Buffy perfectly still.
"I want answers," she said through clenched teeth, ignoring Spike's welcome. "And I want them now."
