Reviews for The Watcher

axel 07/04/05 - 12:02AM 4: 1.1 Destiny's Path: Act IV Signed
OK so I was wrong, she was the Slayer, I'm human. Anyway, the story, and, characters are great, and, I'm looking forward to the rest.

Author's Response: Hey! Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate the time it takes to read the 50 odd chapters I have going here, so hopefully you'll like it enough to keep going.

Thanks again!

axel 07/03/05 - 11:46PM 2: 1.1 Destiny's Path: Act II Signed
Well, I finally decided to check this story out, and so far it's pretty good. I can't help wonder if Olivia really is a Slayer, or if it's someone else. Guess I'll know soon enough.

I have feeling mippyness may be an entirely made up word that me and friends use. It sort of means angst and sadness, whereby you want to Mary Sue yourself into the situation and save the day/become the love interest. Anywhoozles..Have finished the series. It feels a little redundant saying it's great, because I think I've said that muchly...Oh, what the hell: you, my dear, are fantastic. Pongo is inspired - so surreal, and yet he works. Your dialogue is funny: genuinely smart, quippy, and witty. I can't count the number of times I laughed out loud. I wasn't so keen on mercenary!Buffy, but I can't criticise your portrayal of her as it's canon - it was the direction Joss was taking her, and S7 Buffy bugged me too. It also have Liv this wonderful opportunity to come into her own. I love how she's growing, and how her friends are growing and interacting, too. I have a genuine affection for all of them. Even Lucy, who I was expecting not to like so much - yay for giving her bags of personality and not simply making her "love interest". Maya and Jordy are as cute as hell. You actually bother to research, too -all those languages. The time and affection you clearly have for your work really shows: a "show" can only obtain that special kind of charm that way. I'm rambling. In sum: hurrah for you!

Author's Response: Wow! Thanks for the great review and reading everything! Hopefully you'll like Season 2 just as much... but if it takes you away from Serendipity, I'll gladly wait until your write a dozen more chapters or so before you start reading the next season.

Glad you liked my OC's as well as Lucy. With the exception of Drusilla she's surprisingly hard to write for. As for "General Buffy", yeah I wrote her that way specifically so Liv would get in her face and take her down a few notches. It's my own devious plan to return her to the Buffy we all know and love.

Thanks again for reading and your comments. They made my day.

'Oz (From the waist up only. Get your mind out of the gutter)' - Get out of my brain! It's a good thing Oz showed up, really. I was developing a disturbing little crush on Jordy, with his Oz-like behaviour and the mippyness. This just gets better - I adore your writing, and your characters leap of the page. Given that on the whole, I'm really bad at reading people's fanfic, it makes it all the more cool that I'm hanging on every word. You=Talented + Yayness.

Author's Response: Mippyness? What exactly is Mippyness? I must be getting old because I have no sense of the word. In context of the review, I'll just take it as a compliment.

As for your crush on Jordy... we'll just chalk that up to his inherent Oz-ness.

Thank you so much for the kind words and for reading my stuff.

I'm really enjoying this series so far - you have the quirky Joss-humour down. I love Xander as the protective Watcher - the more I think about it, as Buffy's "white knight" it's almost meant to be.

Author's Response: Glad you like it! I'm having a lot of fun writing it. Xander is supposed to be a little older in this series and taking on more "Gile-listic" attributes while still retaining his goofy Xander side.

"Shh! Quiet dear, I'm talking to a psychopath." Heeeeee! I like Liv, I like that she's a total clutz. Thus being someone I can relate to. I can't wait to see her style as a slayer.

I adored this - you've found the wonderful balance between drama and quirky comedy, which Buffy nailed so well in it's early years. You have Andrew and Xander down so well (though Xander has nice matured edge to him, which I like). Like another reviewer, I'm much with the seething jealousy - balanced out by the fact that this is wonderful. I chuckled all the way through. Excellent, fab, and you'll hear from me in Act II. C x

I have enjoyed this show with much pleasure. It was fun, great dialogues, very well fleshed out OCs and a strong plot. The only thing I liked less, but this is personal and has nothing to do with the quality of your story, is that I don't like Xander having anykind of powers. Not even the vision. To me he's extraordinary because he has no powers and can still be special :) But don't let that stop you with the way you want to tell your story. I am anxious to the next season! And oh, one other little nitpicking. Can you please let Liv and Jordy stop calling Xander Mr Harris. I find it annoying, and I don't think Xander would like to be referred to his father. But, that's only nitpicking, nothing more. Really, its damn good, easily worth a 10 out of 10.

Author's Response: Thanks for the high praise and also some very valid feedback. I know giving Xander a power pretty much violated a major canon/fanon rule, and there are many times I regret doing that. Many... many... many times. You're absolutely right, Xander's character is extraordinary because of who he is. Mr. Non-powered guy. The Heart. The guy who fixes the windows and sees everything. That's one reason why I punished his character so much during the series and with what happened to him in the final "episode". That being said, when I went with the whole "vision" power thing it was the result of Dawn and Caleb's comments about Xander's character being able to "see everything". That and with Cordelia now being dead, that power was left vacant except for the "one shot deal" Angel had back in the final season of his series. I also liked the idea of giving Xander a power, but also making him pay for it.

As for the "Mr. Harris" thing, you also make a valid point. I thought I had written a scene someplace where Xander told Liv to call him by his first name but she refused, though I may have edited it out. I mostly did it to differentiate herself from Buffy and establish a different type of relationship between Liv and Xander than what Buffy had with Giles. Jordy and Maya may cross that line of familiarity next season, but every time I write the word "Xander" in Liv's dialogue it just doesn't feel right. I end up deleting it and writing in "Mr. Harris".

I know what you mean though. My neighbor's kids call me Mr. "XYZ" all the time and it drives me up the wall.

Thanks again for the review and some great feedback. Hopefully you'll like the next season... I'm working out some of the ideas right now and taking my time with the first ep. Should be out in another week or two.

Loved it! Will be looking forward to more in the future! PS: Did Willow and the Vizier know each other or something? I think I missed something around there...

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing! Willow and the Vizier duked it out in "Must be Tuesday", Chapters 15-19.

Joy! This was a great season. Season 2? Yes, please! I'll keep a watchful eye (no pun intended...really).

Author's Response: Glad you liked it. I'll let the bad pun go for now. Next time punishment will be involved. : )

Ahhh! Xander! What did you do? I literally gasped when I read this...

Author's Response: Well you know the saying...

It's all fun and games until... well, you know the rest.

Excellent wrap up to the season! Glad the Xand man's alright. Can't WAIT for your next season! And of course: Vote Gum and vote often! Bigfan, redmoon.

Author's Response: Thanks Red! I appreciate all the reads and reviews you given. Hopefully next season will be just as good.

Oooo, creeping seer-Watcher-sans-eyeballs. "Very Obi-Wan"... heh. Will Drusilla finally meet her end??? I'm about to find out.

Author's Response: And if you think about it... Xander has also been "struck down and become more powerful than you can imagine".

Hard to believe I'm not a Star Wars fan is it?

redmoon 05/18/05 - 08:44PM 48: 1.12 Oraculum Caecus: Act II Signed
Oh! Ew! Nasty!! Poor Xander! You cruel, cruel author you! What a horrible thing to happen! I hope I'm clearly emphasizing my disgust! Nonetheless, I am proceeding to the next act now...

Author's Response: Really? Was it that disgusting?
(Insert evil grin here)
Cool!!
Just remember... No good deed goes unpunished in the buffyverse!

redmoon 05/18/05 - 08:30PM 47: 1.12 Oraculum Caecus: Act I Signed
Oh, my God, they got Clem! It's funny how there are two kinds of people in the world: those who go "ga-ah!" when they see Pongo, and everyone else. Also: love the continual "Dark One slash Brad." Reading the next act right now...

Author's Response: Did it ever strike you as funny that both Angel and Buffy had major puppet issues? Just me? Oh.

Poor Clem. I really regret what happened to him.
