Reviews for Angel 6x06 - Fanboy

Sorry to double review, but I realized I didn't comment on Lorne as much as I wanted in my first review. I like the way you wrote Gunn because I think you wrote him better than he was written in the last season and a half. You kind of took him back to the last time he was really Gunn and started developing from there. I like the way you wrote Lorne because you took him in a direction that he’s never gone before, but was completely natural given his arc over the course of the show. Also, I’m not sitting here reading and saying “who the hell is this character that they’re calling Lorne.” I see how he got where he is. I can also still see the Lorne in him. He’s still Lorne, just Lorne in a new and different place. It was a very unique, but still very natural, direction. It’s really what I tried to go for in my story, but clearly didn’t have as much success as you. When Lorne was first re-introduced, I thought the manner in which it was done was slightly ham-handed. However, I can deal with forcing someone into a story if you’re really going to use them and develop them. And you really have. And to top it all off, this wasn’t even a Lorne-centric ep. You packed so much development and so much authenticity into a handful of lines. Brilliant!

Great episode! I love how you brought back an extra from a past episode and made him a central character. That is completely what Joss would have done. The villani’s MO was great as well. The Spike/ Gunn banter and Gunn’s interior monologue were funny as hell. Actually, Gunn was just generally great. It’s the Gunn that disappeared somewhere in the middle of season 3. Stupid Fred. Speaking of stupid- what’s up with Heather. She didn’t get that the guy who was stalking her was her stalker? Poor Lorne. I feel so bad for him. Anyway, great job. Can’t wait until you post again!

Author's Response: Heather had a rough time with this episode (worse case of writer's block ever), so your comments will be like music to her ears. Yes, I love her Gunn voice too. I tell her this every other day. I hate that Gunn gets almost no love in the fanfic world considering he's my personal favorite character. The Lorne stuff is all Heather. She's wanted quality Lorne development for awhile and the place he's in now is a place we've never seen him. As for Heather, the way we're approaching her is a fish out of water story. One thing that always kind of irked me about the Jossverse was that when a new character was brought into the fold, they always adjusted far too easily. Heather's still adjusting and she's a little slow on the uptake because she's never dealt with things like this before. This episode was more of a wake up call for her. Glad you enjoyed it.
