Absolutely beautiful! Season six and following of the show basically focused on the judgmental, small-minded side of Xander's character; this story reminds us of the sincere, big-hearted wonderful person that the show started him out as. It reminds me of why I loved Xander to begin with, and makes me like him again. Thanks for writing! Write more please! :)

I always thought organic or bio chem to be harder than phys chem. Anyway, Lovely story. Well done. Many of us secretly wish X and B could be together even though, in the Whedonverse, two people cannot be happy at once, or so it seems. It is nice, too, that what we see here is a moment of chaste closeness and not a sex romp. Maybe it never goes anywhere, maybe it does. We don't need to know. This is enough. Also, your use of present tense works well, as does--surprisingly--the use of description as attribution: Instead of saying "he said" after a quotation or just ending the quotation and starting a new sentence, you end the quote with comma, quotation marks, and then describe an action like "he put his hand on her shoulder." (Not an actual quote from your story.) I might have used a period instead of a comma and then started a new sentence for the description. Because your approach is unconventional, the purist in me objects, but your way is understandable to the reader, which counts as a virtue in writing.

Author's Response: Phys chem and I don't get along... to each his own. Thanks for the review; it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's missed lasting personal happiness in the Whedonverse. The comma, close-quote is actually the way my grade school teachers wanted me to do things. As long as it's understandable, though, I guess that's what matters. Thanks! ~LM
