Reviews for Running on Faith, Season Two

Painbow 03/29/05 - 02:20PM 14: 2.14: The Condors and the Bees Signed
"The talk" was PRICELESS. Connor getting upset, angry, and confused, Angel not knowing how to make it better and too embarrassed to try and be clearer, Faith making it better, and Condors. Hee! *g*

Author's Response: Connor as fish out of water is good for endless comic mileage. Of course, Angel is out of his depth here as well. However, the boys will eventually bond and have a heart to heart. If I have time. Condors, baby. It's all about the condors.

Painbow 03/29/05 - 02:07PM 13: 2.13: The Founder of the Initiative Signed
YAY! EVE IS DEAD!!! SQUEE!!! BULLETS THROUGH BOTH EYES!!!

*ahem*

Loved the chapter. I was so worried when Lorne was shot, but you've turned it into comedy with the vamps trying to figure out how to kill him. I'm glad you kept Faith level headed, although *I'd* like to smack Xander one... I love what you're doing with the Mayor, and I'm saying now, for the record, that Billy is evil.

Author's Response: Yes, Eve is dead. And with a bullet through each eye, I don't see her coming back. I tried to play the Lorne decapitation up for laughs. Does that make me sick? Poor Xander did make quite a few bad moves. I think he's out of practice. I'm glad you're liking the Mayor. As for Billy, what'd he ever do?

Ya you have to update! This rocks!

Author's Response: Thanks! I've been writing on and off, so sorry it's all coming out so sporadically.

Painbow 03/29/05 - 12:46AM 11: 2.11: Surrender Signed
Great chapter! Very exciting! I'm gonna disagree with MJ and say I LIKE D/C, but then I tend to like just about any relationship that makes sense, and this one does to me.

I spent a large portion of the chapter cursing Xander and Graham for screwing things up. I'm getting very caught up in the story *g*

Author's Response: It’s good to read you like D/C. I think they make sense too. Xander and Graham certainly messed things up. It’s good to know the story’s engrossing enough to get you cursing at the characters. :)

' Faith jerked away. “What a crock of shit,” she said. “You completely disappeared from my life!”

“I was a P.O.W.” Billy said incredulously. “I disappeared from everyone’s life.” '

Hee! Again, great moment!

Great chapter! So glad Dawn finally figured out what she wanted. And great reveal/cliffhanger, but now...damnit! I need to go to bed, but I'm going to read the next chapter *g*

Author's Response: Glad you liked the cliffhanger. I was often asked why I never gave more details about an event from the first season. Now you know why. It never happened. Hopefully I can keep your interest.

'Lorne gave a slight cry of outrage at seeing the boy’s beaten up state, complete with cuts, bruises, and naked rib bones. “Of for the love of Freddy Krueger,” he groaned. “That’s just excessive!” '

Hee! I LOVE that moment!

I really enjoyed that chapter. Although I was sad to see du Pliess go, it was defiantely an infuriating (in a good way) death. I also like how you brought back the beozars, which were an interesting idea poorly used by the show, and turned them into something more. And I'm also liking the Dawn/Connor sub plot. The Anne Rice book was a nice touch. Made me snicker at the thought of Giles reading it *g* And I have NO idea who the informant is, though my first guess is Angel...

On a side note, my cousin Kirsty stumbled upon this story (because she never reads the rec's I post :p) and she absolutely loved it. She's a huge Connor fan and she loved the way you brought back the dark elements of his character. She's not a member of the site, so she asked me to pass along the message. It was pretty funny when it came up. "Heather, have you ever read "Running on Faith"? And then I rolled my eyes at her *g*

Author's Response: Thanks for the reviews! I don’t think I’m great at writing Lorne, so I’m really happy to know you liked the Lorne lines. I, too, was sad to see du Plessis go. I really want to try to structure things in the Buffy Little Bad/Big Bad way. Du Plessis and Wolfram & Hart were the Little Bad. The Markovics are the Big Bad. Maybe. I too thought the Beozars were a nice concept that could be recycled. I’m also glad the D/C plot is working for you. I’m really pulling for those two kids.

Thank your cousin Kristy for me. I’m glad she’s reading and enjoying. It’s a real rush getting this kind of feedback.

I don't know why everyone's so hard on Kennedy. I'd hate to see Dawn be the reason for Will and Ken's breakup (assuming they ever do). The Dawn/Connor pairing is classic and I'm amazed it was never explored in either of the series' when they stil aired. Absolutely superb technique and style. By far my favorite fic so far.

Author's Response: Yeah, I don't know why everyone hates Kennedy either. Someone explained it to me once, but it didn’t make a hell of a lot of sense. Dawn will not be the cause of a Kennedy/Willow split for several reasons. The most important reason is that the series isn’t about Willow or Kennedy. D/C is a pretty obvious pairing, which is why I hate doing it. But for this story, it fits. I have enough places to take their relationship that I think it’s worthwhile to explore it. Thank you sooo much for your review. I’m grateful for any insightful review, good or bad. But I can’t help but get goose bumps whenever someone calls one of my fics their favorite.

Yea.... Update!!! I'm glad that the Mayor's still around..... Also, curious how Round Two's going to go at the hotel. And Cordelia returned to Pylea??? Interesting..... Or..... Cheap copy???? Multiple questions--too many of them. (Actually, not too many; just a few. But whatever.) I loved it--the part with Faith proclaiming herself hottest brunette in Pylea was funny (and so Faith), and I'm liking both basic plotlines (which, I know, do connect). Please update it again soon.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I try to have double action- two action-packed plotlines running simultaneously. I'll try to keep that going.

I'm going to have stay clear of your stories, because I'm tempted to steal all your ideas. Good use of characters and you've got them nailed down to a "T."

Author's Response: Thanks for the review and the compliment. Given your stories and how wel you have your characters down, it's a HUGE compliment.

Painbow 03/10/05 - 06:07PM 6: 2.06: Taking an Initiative Signed
I'm still enjoyign the story. I like the possible Initiative connection, and du Pliess is just operatic enough to be funny and menacing at the same time. The only thing that didn't quite flow was the rescue of Connor. I know that you wanted us to think that Dawn was really Dru doing another mind trick, but the rescue seemed to come out of nowhere after the twist. Still, good work!

Author's Response: Thanks as always for the review. It’s heartening to know that people are still enjoying the story, or at the very least reading it. The rescue of Connor was rushed for three reasons. First, as you mentioned, I wanted to dupe the reader into thinking it was a Dru mind trick. Second, we’d already seen the good guys busting into W&H HQ and I didn’t want to repeat myself. And third, I didn’t want the chapter to be 10,000 words- lol. Still, sorry it didn’t flow for you. I’m glad Armand du Plessis is operatic, funny, and menacing. That’s certainly where I was trying to go with him. Incidentally, the character is a reference to Armand-Jean du Plessis, Cardinal and Duke of Richelieu. He is the real-life French statesman who served as the villain for Alexandre Dumas’ historical fiction/ adventure serial *The Three Musketeers*. Since I too seemed to be writing a adventure serial, I figured I’d give Dumas and Richelieu a shout out.

Condors. That one word made the whole chapter for me. I love how Connor just felt Angel's presence there. Their connection there is so palpable. I really don't have much else to say about this chapter. I get the feeling you used this to transition into later events, so I'm just left speculating where you want to take things. I'm a little nervous about how you write the Pylea stuff b/c the canon Pylea arc for me was one of AtS's lower points. As always, I look forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Glad you like condors! I'm definitely trying to build upon the connection between Angel and Connor. Hope I make Pylea exciting. I always thought the Pylea sequence got a bad rap, but my Pylea will be vastly different. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks!

As always great chapter. The ''talk" with Connor was hysterical. Please update soon.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I'm so happy you liked the talk! I hope to post again soon.

Monkey Pants 02/21/05 - 05:24PM 14: 2.14: The Condors and the Bees Signed
The chapter moved at a slower pace than its previous installments, which is good in a way as we need a breather after the constant delivery of plot-twists and action. The 'birds-and-the-bees' scene at first seemed a little out of place, but undeniably funny. Connor's innocence was a bit of a surprise...CONDORS? but worked well, I think, with Angel's awkwardness with being a parent figure. Maybe he should have left it to Faith... :) The spirit of Lorne, as ever, is captured really well. I could almost hear him singing from my computer...

Author's Response: I'm glad the slow pace didn't turn people off. The next few chapters will hopefully be more exciting. Angel/Connor awkwardness is a lot of fun for me, personally. Thanks for the comment on Lorne and the review in general.

rockangelz25 02/21/05 - 01:41PM 14: 2.14: The Condors and the Bees Signed
Great chapter again. I loved the parts with Lorne.... And "the talk" with Connor was hysterically funny. Poor Lorne--back in Pylea. And it's going to be kind of interesting to find out (if you include it) what kind of a government they have now exactly. I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I had my doubts about this chapter, so I'm glad someone liked it. Poor Lorne. But he's home and happy now. Well, home anyway. I always thought the show missed hte boat by not having Angel give Connor "the talk." I mean, that's just a slam dunk. Yes, the goverment of Pylea will be very much a factor in the next chapter.

Monkey Pants 02/04/05 - 06:17PM 13: 2.13: The Founder of the Initiative Signed
Just watched an episode of Alias, and reading this chapter, it reminded me a lot of that series. Filled with action and plot twists, you kept me interested from start to finish, from Dawn's sequence to Richard's revelation. The whole maiming of Lorne thing, to me, was highly amusing, reminiscent of the good old Pylea days. Also glad to see that you've made Faith into a believable lead. many would never have developed her beyond her wicked cool catchphrases and five-by-five partying.

Author's Response: Thanks for the "Alias" comparison. There's actually an "Alias" shout out in season 1, episode 7. I'm glad I'm succeeding in my attempts to develop Faith beyond a stereotypical wild girl with a couple catch phrases. Hopefully I’ll have a few more fun things to remind you of the good ol’ Pylea days.
