I always enjoy having the season 4 Conner around, he's alot cooler to me. I like how Spike is figuring stuff, Spike's smarter then he looks. I like story alot, and Conner and Dana seem to be forming a bond, Great Story.
Author's Response: I liked the season 4 Connor, too. I liked that feral nature- angry, confused, frightened. It certainly adds an explosive element. Thanks for reviewing. |

The fight scene between Angel and Connor couldn't have been done any better. You have made me love Connor in a way that the show never could. I never disliked him but he was just there... He is such rich material in your hands and I can't wait to see where you are going to take this. Spike is catching on to Angel's evasive answers... I knew he would. I love this Connor too. His protectiveness toward Dana is touching.I must read on...
Author's Response: I've been waiting a long time for a good Angel/ Connor fight, so I'm glad my version paid off. I've always had a deep sympathy for Connor, so I'm glad I could portray him in that kind of light. Connor would naturally be drawn to Dana. they're both "damaged." It's different then being tempted to evil by anger or power. Hopefullyi won't diappoint you with where the story's going. Thanks for reaidng and reviewing. |

I did like season four Connor. So many people pulled him, including his father, every which way, not letting him figure things out on his own. Did you make him a tad too insane? I don't know. It depends on what you do with him in subsequent chapters. The interaction between Connor and Dana suggests that he isn't insane, just so screwed up that it will take a lot to reach him. I just wonder if Angel ever had it in him to reach the boy. I don't think that he did in season four.
Author's Response: Glad you liked season 3 and 4 Connor. You're going to be stuck with him for the rest of the story's run. I agree that Angel in many ways failed Connor. I want to play with the idea of people successfully reaching *that* Connor and a *real* redemption for the poor kid. |

I surprisingly loved this episode. I was worried initially because I was not a fan of most of Season 4 Connor. But this rendering of him offered me a better understanding of who he was, outside of his contact with Angel. I don’t really think we got to see this aspect of him in the show. Everything was Connor and Angel reacting to one another, and made me sick of feeling like Connor was a whinny kid that needed to get over his issues. More time needed to be spent grasping why Connor reacted the ways he did toward Angel, actual experiences, not just a brief telling of events that don’t feel true unless you can witness them or are given a great deal of exposition to explain such a complex situation. My point and review of this Episode is that I felt this connection to Connor that I was missing, needing, to really understand his temper tantrums as more than, well temper tantrums. He is obviously in deep emotional torment which was accurately portrayed in this episode. (In no way overly manic in my mind).
I am also enjoying the protectiveness Connor is providing Dana. Reminds me of the protectiveness he had for Cordy after she had lost her memory. It seems the only time Connor can let someone into his life is if she’s just as lost as he is, the place where he fulfills a need thus providing him with a sense of purpose. And in helping others is able to hide from the past, the feral one that turns into compassion when dealing with those like him. I didn’t see this until I read it in this story. It had been there with Cordelia, just not explored so well.
Author's Response: Thanks for the review. I’m so happy you enjoyed the episode. I know a lot of people weren’t fans of season 4 Connor. Personally, I loved him. So, yeah, I took this series as an opportunity to try to indoctrinate people- lol. I really think if you look at Connor’s story, Angel shares a tremendous amount of blame for their falling out (euphemism for Angel’s sinking). As for Connor being whiny, everyone on the damn show was whiny. At least Connor was carrying enough baggage to justify his whining. *exhales* Okay, short version: I’m happy I succeeded in shedding a more sympathetic light on Connor. |

In the past I was frequently clamoring for more Faith. Now you have me in a tough situation. I do want more Faith. I also want more Connor, Spike, Dana, Willow, and Dawn. You’re writing these characters really, really well. The plots are awesome. The interaction between the characters is right on target and extremely natural. Starting with (as I mentioned) Funhouse, this story has really started dealing with conflicts and issues that the Angel show never had time to finish. Although I love, love, love Faith, I realize that the Buffy finale left her in a pretty decent place so far as closure is concerned. So, for the moment, I’m very content to sit back and enjoy the ride, hoping you will give me some resolution to things the show did not. Thanks again for another awesome chapter.
Author's Response: Thanks for the review and your compliments. This is turning into more of an ensemble series than I originally intended. However, I’m enjoying writing these characters and their stories as much as you appear to enjoy reading them. Please continue to “enjoy the ride”! |

I am completely in favor of moving the series back to being Faith-centric. The fact that she killed the Mayor and you just kinda glossed over that fact is making her seem like a bit character. I also think Connor is a touch too insane. Even when he was on the verge of suicide in Home, I don't think he was as manic as you wrote him in the 19th chapter. Hopefully, the story moves back to Faith soon. For being her series, she's the least developed character thus far. It seems more like the Connor show actually.
Author's Response: First off, thanks for reviewing. Second, thanks for reposting this review under Chapter 19, where it’s less spoilery. I definitely agree I’ve spent more time on other characters than Faith. It seems the focus has shifted from Spike to Dawn to Connor, with Faith the star only momentarily drifting into the spotlight. The problem is that I’m trying to wrap up what I feel are a lot of open issues in the other characters before I concentrate on Faith. I wanted to do that in about three episodes. It turned out to take about ten. It’s also true I haven’t dealt much with Faith’s confrontation with the Mayor, but there’s a reason for that. The fallout from that won’t be seen until the next “season” (provided people want me to write one). The one thing I’ll disagree with you on is Connor acting too insane or manic. In “Home” he was prepared to blow up an entire store full of people, so he was clearly off the deep end. As far as his being more manic, he’s in a different mode then he was in “Home.” He’s found himself in a strange apartment apparently owned by Angel. I think he very much fell back to where he was in episodes like “Inside Out.” He’s confused and on the run. He’s being driven by an animal instinct to stay alive, even though part of him very much wants to die. Still, you’re right that lately, the story seems more like “The Connor Show.” |
