Reviews for Running on Faith: Season One

I liked the Humor between the characters. And I've always liked the Mayor, then Spike going to Japan. Sometimes a story should have travel, that was good.

Author's Response: Spike in Japan is just funny to me, but Lorne would totally fit in there. I imagine. Never actually been there. I LOVE the Mayor, so I knew I wanted to bring him back. Thanks for reading and for reviewing.

I really like the fact that the Mayor was brought into this story. Faith has such a hard decision before her now. I love the "Crush" that Dawn has on Connor and the fact that he heard it all. Very good idea. Angel's dry humor while being tortured was so on. I could practically hear him saying the words. Willow to the rescue was awesome. I love the wat you have her use her powers. Very impressive. Angel and Dawn's interaction was great. You worked in the fact that she never really cared for him much. Explaining whether or not he remembered her at all... Since he was gone when the spell for the key was past. You are my hero ! Lorne? Yay! I love the fact that he didn't want to see Angel. Another great oment between father and son too. The reference to shanshu being like watching Connor grow older was sooo good. Angle IS living again through his son... I really love this series. Everything is so well thought out and deliberate. The characters went through so much in one chapter. Very emotive and wonderful. Great work!

Author's Response: The Mayor was a big part of Faith, for better or worse. I felt like he belonged in the story. However, I didn’t want to just throw him in. “*Poof* the Mayor’s back!” doesn’t work for me. Thus, the Risen One. I figure if I put enough effort into bringing the old guy back, the readers would be more likely to go along with it. You touched on a theme I play with very heavily later in season one. I don’t want to go into it now, but kudos to you for noticing. I’m so lucky to have such perceptive readers. Thanks for the reviews! I can’t tell you what a high they give me.

And the hits just keep on coming. First off, again with the funny title. I know it’s a line from Tears for Fears “Mad World,” but it definitely fits. Again, you mention the demons in Brazil going quiet. Will we ever find out what happened there? Is there something Willow and Kennedy aren’t saying? Dawn’s crush on/ annoyance with Connor was pitch perfect, especially for her character. Connor’s “I’m not gay” speech was hysterical. Poor Connor. The one night stand costs him a relationship with the girl that seems a natural fit for him. The Angel/ Connor moment in his room was really sweet. I liked that Angel shopped for Connor and watched him sleep. And finally, WHAT AN ENDING! Again with the killer cliff-hanger. It’s late and I need to go to bed. OK? But as soon as I wake up, I’m reading chapter 16.

Author's Response: I'm happy to see my cliffhangers (aka "cheap tricks") are still leving people hanging. I'm a big fan of a happy Angel/Connor relationship, so expect more touching father-son moments like this. And yes, Connor's hormones have made D/C practically impossible. Love hurts.

Go, Willow, go. She gets in on the action now. Is Dru really that stupid? Oh, wait, she showed back up pretty quickly. Faith, California? Too funny. Faith's internal dialogue about the Mayor is great. She's so torn between her feelings towards him and her need to kill him. Such a hard choice for her.

Author's Response: I always thought that more mileage could be gotten out of the Faith/ Mayor dynamic. But I thought the only way to really do that was to bring the mayor back. Thus, the Risen One. Glad you like Faith, California.

All I have to say, is the following excerpt epitomizes what I love about this fic. It has great action, without the too often one dimensionality of most action fics I've read. Few fics capture such great exposition, action or otherwise. Seriously, I got teary eyed! Just Wow! Their whole relationship was about time after all. Time borrowed, time stolen, time rewritten even. Angel had all the time in the world. His son’s time was running out. It moved along at the same pace as everyone else’s life, Angel supposed. But for him, for Angel, that time seemed so fleeting. Fifty years could pass in the blink of an eye. Shanshu Angel laughed to himself. So this was living.

Author's Response: I’m really glad you liked the character interactions and internal monologues. I’m especially pleased you liked this excerpt so much. Hopefully it’ll become obvious why in future chapters.

I'm really enjoying the Dawn/Connor interaction. The love/hate, sexual-tension-masked-by-irrational-anger aspect is perfect character writing for these two. This is something I should have explored in my own fic, however since I failed to do so, I am especially glad I have the chance to experience it through yours. And I am really interested in where this Willow/Dawn interaction is leading….this was unexpected, and the unexpected is what the Buffyverse is all about.

Author's Response: I'm glad you like the Dawn moments with Willow and Connor. I too am wondering where Dawn’s conversation with Willow is going. I have a feeling about it. If you want, you can e-mail me about it. I just don’t want to get spoilery here.
