The thing I liked most about this chapter was that the preceding two had set me up for where I felt was the only place for the story to go, then did a 180 and shocked the hell out of me. I loved it! I agree with Violet about this chapter showing Buffy's growth in the way she handled the Angel/Nina scene. However, then we are quickly reminded of how hard change really is, how difficult it is to let go of what is "easy" for what is right, as the chapter ends. I also liked the subtle irony in Buffy's thoughts when she first sees Angel with Nina, "It was selfish…cocky" which resurfaces later, not in thoughts but in action, as she uses Spike (selfishly) and knows without doubt he'll be there (cocky) to ease her pain, unheeding the knowledge that it will probably only hurt him in the end. This chapter shows Buffy's growth intellectually, but emotionally and physically she finds comfort in reverting to old patterns. Who knows what will happen after this momentous kiss? All I know is that it will be vital to Buffy's character development. I can't wait to read more!

Great chapter! I liked Buffy's thoughts about kissing Angel. I loved the way Buffy's reaction to the scene was to leave--I thought it showed how much her character has grown in the past few years. Years ago, she would have thrown a tempertantrum like she did when she found Angel with Faith. Those few paragraphs explained a ton about who Buffy is right now. The interaction between Buffy and Spike is wonderful. For a B/Aer, you sure write B/S very well. I also liked the way you used repetition and juxtaposition (the "held" passage, and esecially this line "the woman he had once tried to kill. Once tried to love") That was such a tragic line because it is so true. And the last line of the chapter was perfect!
