I love the conversations between Faith and Eve. Another great story.
Author's Response: I was going for a Hannibal Lecter in reverse type of thing. Thanks for the review. |

Sad...You make me wanna cry. Meanie. Good job, though.
Author's Response: Sorry you're sad and crying, but I'm glad you thought I did a good job. Even if I'm a meanie. |

I absolutely love the friendship that seems to be growing between Spike and Connor. It is so natural and easy. I also think that Buffy is acting like her typical self in not really focusing on Dawn after finding out that she isn't in immediate danger. Dawn continally reaches out for comfort from her and it's like a black hole... I love the Faith and Eve's "talks". Eve is so sublimely evil. Faith's uncertainty in handing over Connor is such a natural and realistic impulse in the situation she is in. Great work in showing how emotionally unbalanced she is by the death penalty threat...
Author's Response: Thanks for the review! The Connor/ Spike friendship is something I really wanted to build. The two of them have a few things in common. Yes, Buffy is back to acting her typical self. “I love you when you’re in danger, but other than that, I haven’t got time.” I hope you keep enjoying the stories. |

Loved it! The characterizations were fabulous. Dawn’s growth into an adult continues with her remorse over killing Amy. The romantic tension between Buffy and Riley is so true to life and their characters. I absolutely loved the exploration of Faith’s fear of the death penalty. I think it really fits with her character that she wouldn’t be afraid of dying in battle, yet would still freak out at the idea of being killed while strapped helplessly into a chair. The action sequences were great as usual. Connor’s spur of the moment plan to rescue Faith rocked, even if it failed. Once again, the ending was flat out awesome. I *love* these villains. As for in-jokes, Judge Harold T. Stone was the judge on People’s Court or something, right? Are there any other references/in-jokes/shout outs? Please feel free to use your response to any of my reviews to mention any such jokes. Thanks again for another awesome chapter of an awesome story.
Author's Response: Thanks for another awesome review :) I too thought it would be natural for Faith to crave a warrior’s death, rather than the ignoble death of a criminal. Part of it, for me, was pushing Faith into thinking of herself as a warrior-for-good as opposed to a criminal. She wants to be a good guy and have all the good and bad that comes with that. She also wants to put her life as a criminal behind her. I hope I’m able to continue to show Dawn growing. Nice to see you liked the action sequences and villains. You were close on one of the shout outs. Judge Harold T. Stone was the judge on the 80’s television sitcom “Night Court.” The other in-joke I remember putting in this episode was Faith’s prison number, 123080. 12-30-80 is Eliza Dushku’s birthday. Thanks again for reading. |

You really don't give them a break, do you? The byplay between Buffy and Dawn is typical. Poor Dawn is suffering, and it seems to me that Buffy is only half-listening. Which is exactly what she would do. Is that the wrong interpretation? And I like the fact that you haven't made Riley into the bad guy or Captain Cardboard in this fic. He did contribute on the series. Faith goodness also. The nuthouse? No way she'd stay in there for long. I like that you updated her situation.
Author's Response: No, no breaks. You definitely have the right intepretattion. Buffy's very much tied up in her own concerns and Dawn is upset about something Buffy had to get past a long time ago. I tried hard to make Riley a bit more complex than he was on the show. |

Well first, eerie_ave touched on many of the points in this chapter I really enjoyed. I still actually catch myself holding my breath during some of the action scenes. And I know this is a small thing and may not even play out as even a minor theme, but I am enjoying the uncomfortable sexual tension between Riley and Buffy, and it should be there as things were really never resolved between them. It also shines light on both characters as individuals. I have never been a big Reily fan, but you may have just changed my mind.
Author's Response: I’m glad you like the treatment of Buffy and Riley. I was hoping to have enough development of their relationship and exploration of their characters without overshadowing the real stars of this story. I’m also glad that my action is still keeping you breathless. |

First, thanks to Angeldove for making me realize that I could right a review for each chapter, not just the series. Second, thank to fimtheory for writing the series. Third, spoilers ahead, so stop reading this review if you haven’t read Chapter 5.

Every time a read one of these chapters, I am simultaneously excited and depressed. I always think that this story has hit its peak and can’t get any better. Then the next chapter comes and I’m excited and depressed all over again. In true cliffhanger fashion, this chapter is the best yet. Dawn’s crisis of conscience over killing Amy was an amazing character portrayal. Connor and Spike’s failed attempt to rescue Faith was an amazing piece of action only to be outdone by the final scene of the Vlad kidnapping Dawn again while Buffy tries to crawl to her sister’s rescue. It’s amazing how good writing can make a story so long seem so short. I was breathless while I read it and now I’m breathless waiting for more.
Author's Response: Again, thanks for the positive feedback. I'm glad you liked the action scenes of this episode. They were among my favorite to write. |
