Review may be spoilerish. Don't read if you haven't read the chapter first.
OK. hmmmm, where to start… First, this is easily your best written chapter concerning all grammar elements, writing style, character development, and dialogue. The sexual banter throughout the episode had me laughing from start to finish. First, I am going to embarrass myself by admitting that I had to read the hummer joke twice to get it. And then I am going to tell you that my jaw dropped at Connor's statement that earned him worthy of a beer, when jaw finally closes hysterical laughter ensues. I have to admit that some of my favorite moments of ATS & BTVS were bantering moments. My least favorite were missed opportunities that you couldn't believe the show didn't capitalize on. Those moments always left me irritated. This episode/chapter never disappointed or had a missed opportunity. Now to the interesting subject matter of the ep. I am going to try my hardest to write this in a non-spoilery fashion. Everyone who has read it knows what I am talking about. Filmtheory certainly had the balls to put himself out there for what will likely garner some great dislike. I was fine with it up to the moment when we realize that Connor knows about the Buffy/Angel dynamic. The reason is that throughout the story I have felt that Connor was working towards building a better relationship with his father, and this would almost certainly ruin any chances for that. However, I am also left with the vagueness of how much Connor really does know about the B/A dynamic, which may change my opinion of the whole thing all together. So, my only concern is whether it is out of character for Connor, but I will have to wait for subsequent chapters to find out. I do know that this situation adds a whole new layer to the fun and angst that will surely ensue from it, and I can't wait for it to happen. And I suck at making reviews not spoilery! (or brief)
Author's Response: My response is also spoilerish. I'm really glad that my first two reviews have been mostly positive. As you said, I threw out there something sure to garner great dislike. I'm sad to say that you, Angeldove, won't be happy with Connor (or me). In defense of the poor kid (and me), Connor was a horny and slightly intoxicated teenage boy who'd gotten the green light from a very attractive woman. I think everyone does things that they regret, particularly were sex and love are involved. So yes, Connor did know about the Buffy/Angel relationship, thus his request Angel not be told. I don't think this makes things out of character for Connor. Connor wants a better relationship with his dad and will be very, very conflicted. However, people all the time do things in which their immediate wants and desires undermine some of their long-term goals. For example, I want a house and need to save money to get one. However, I wouldn't call it out of character for me to spend much more than I should on a nice dinner.****** I hope that readers stay on for the ride and enjoy the dysfunctional mess this will create. If not, I can understand how a may have gone too far off the reservation for their tastes. However, I think it's in keeping with the spirit of the show. How many times did Joss give us something we didn't want or, even worse, something we wanted but not when or how we wanted it? |

Departures form the norm is right. I have to give you credit for never playing it safe. After 8 chapters pumping us full of action, you spend 4000 words on character interaction, flirtation, and sex. You have me shocked at how good you were with this one. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that anyone who captures the excitement of a shoot out could capture the excitement of a sex scene equally well, but I am. More importantly, in what could have been a paint by numbers coupling of characters, you chose the hard road with your very unorthodox pairing. I'm glad you did!
Author's Response: I want to thank you not so much for reviewing but for reviewing first. As you said, I took some risks and I'm probably going to get flamed for it. So I'm glad we got started with one good review. Now, if piles of readers respond badly, I'll know at least one person liked it. Thanks. |

OMFG – You shocked the hell out of me with the Buffy/Riley moment. I of course sensed a tension, and assumed that it would stay just that, tension. I was in no way prepared for what happened. But I don't want to make it sound as if it came out of left-field without substance to back it up. Buffy spent her life fighting and then trying to escape this demon world she has now been thrown back into. Therefore it makes sense that Buffy would cling to the one piece of normality that she had in her tumultuous past. The title of the episode says it all. And of course I am happy with the Dawn resolution thus far, though I assume there is more story to tell where she is concerned, in the future. Great ep!
Author's Response: I’m glad you saw the build-up but I still shocked you! Unfortunately, the tension between them will probably be wrapped up more abruptly than I like. My original concept was to have this be Faith’s story and I feel like Buffy has already been too prominent in it. That, combined with the fact that I need Buffy to do one or two more thinks quickly, leaves me less time than I’d like to explore the Buffy/Riley guilt dynamic.*****I don’t want to give anything about Dawn away, but she will still be in the story. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you keep reading. |

| Without saying too much in the way of spoilers; another great episode. The Faith break-out was great and I loved the cameo of Angel. I just have a special place in my heart for the now healthy father – son bond they have. I therefore greatly enjoyed Angel's parting line: "It was a good plan, son" seriously, I just got teary eyed again, typing it. The plot continued to move forward at a good pace, and ended with me wanting more. |

Sorry, forgot one last thing. Will you stop trying to kill me!?!...I got to that last Faith section and was highly pissed to be left hanging. Yes I know its all a part of the story writing, but seriously you are risking the health of my heart:) This just goes to show how great your story really is if I am freaking out that I have to wait even one minute for the next section.
Author's Response: LOL_ sorry. I hope your heart has recovered from the strain I'm apparently putting on it. |

The Connor/Spike interaction is just great, and its thread continues and expands in this chapter as well. I enjoy watching Spike gain more respect for Connor as the story evolves. Also, Spike's growing suspicions about Connor through small clues reminds us how intelligent and observant Spike really is, a fact that is often overlooked due to his bad-boy, sarcastic demeanor.
Author's Response: Spike and Connor’s relationship will definitely have its ups and downs. I’m glad you’re with me on Spike’s insightfulness. This is the same guy who realized Willow was “hanging on by a thread” in season five when all of her friends thought she was fine. |

Well first, eerie_ave touched on many of the points in this chapter I really enjoyed. I still actually catch myself holding my breath during some of the action scenes. And I know this is a small thing and may not even play out as even a minor theme, but I am enjoying the uncomfortable sexual tension between Riley and Buffy, and it should be there as things were really never resolved between them. It also shines light on both characters as individuals. I have never been a big Reily fan, but you may have just changed my mind.
Author's Response: I’m glad you like the treatment of Buffy and Riley. I was hoping to have enough development of their relationship and exploration of their characters without overshadowing the real stars of this story. I’m also glad that my action is still keeping you breathless. |

Not my favorite in the series, but still awesome. The tense action scenes were replaced with tense spy scenes that were exciting, but not quite as exciting as I’m used to in the series. But the last line had its usual effect I sit here drooling for more. I can’t wait to see what happens when Buffy finds the Risen One. My only fear is that this villain can’t be all he’s been built up to be
Author's Response: Sorry to hear this wasn’t your favorite. I want them all to be your favorite- lol. I’m glad to read that you’re still drooling for more. I too worry my Risen One will disappoint some. But I think he’ll be pretty cool. |

First, thanks to Angeldove for making me realize that I could right a review for each chapter, not just the series. Second, thank to fimtheory for writing the series. Third, spoilers ahead, so stop reading this review if you haven’t read Chapter 5.

Every time a read one of these chapters, I am simultaneously excited and depressed. I always think that this story has hit its peak and can’t get any better. Then the next chapter comes and I’m excited and depressed all over again. In true cliffhanger fashion, this chapter is the best yet. Dawn’s crisis of conscience over killing Amy was an amazing character portrayal. Connor and Spike’s failed attempt to rescue Faith was an amazing piece of action only to be outdone by the final scene of the Vlad kidnapping Dawn again while Buffy tries to crawl to her sister’s rescue. It’s amazing how good writing can make a story so long seem so short. I was breathless while I read it and now I’m breathless waiting for more.
Author's Response: Again, thanks for the positive feedback. I'm glad you liked the action scenes of this episode. They were among my favorite to write. |

I am absolutely enjoying the action in this story. You don't see a lot of that here, and I know one of the reasons is that it can be hard to write it convincingly, but you have a definite knack for it. You also don't let the action overtake the importance of the character development and interaction. Simply great!
Author's Response: Thanks again for your complimentary review. I actually feared that the action was overtaking the character development, so I’m glad to see I’ve possible found a balance. |

I am very impressed with your creativity of storytelling and plot development, as well as your ability to get into the heads of your characters. I am looking forward to the subsequent chapters, even with the shift to Buffy. I am loving the crossover, ensemble story line!
Author's Response: I wanted to have a big ensemble storyline without downsizing Faith's story. Unfortunately, I don't think I succeeded in that. I’m just glad the Buffy storyline is compelling enough to keep readers satisfied and not missing Faith too, too much. But she will be back. This is her story |

I have only just started this series and am loving it. I am intrigued by the idea of this group of people in their own staring roles outside of the Buffy/Angel centric world. Sure I love to see them and do appreciate the cameos, but its time to explore other characters and you are doing a great job thus far. And I've only just begun. Also, you have Faith's voice down to a science!
Author's Response: Thanks for the comments. I agree that these are interesting characters and deserve their own story (obviously). I hope you’re not too disappointed that the focus temporarily drifts from faith and a bit toward Buffy, but the story will ultimately belong to Faith and her crew. Hope you keep reading. |

This is the second awesome series I've read in this archive. With only four chapters done, I’m already completely riveted. I love the awesome action and cliffhangers. Although the first chapter resolved itself nicely, each of the other three have left me gasping for breath and screaming, "I need to know what happens next! Now!”
My only suggestion is that, since the series is called "Running of Faith," that Faith should be in it a bit more. However, I've yet to read a fanfic that could match this one for pulse pounding action and suspense. I'm on the edge of my seat, dying to know what happens next and praying you keep up your rapid pace of putting out chapters almost daily.
Author's Response: Thanks for your comments. Unfortunately, I have a feeling the pace of my writing will slow as the story progresses, but I will be putting out chapters fairly quickly. On the god news front, Faith will be appearing more as the story progresses. The original idea was for this to be a story based on her as slayer and her backup. It should be returning to that in the near future. |
