This story is just so incredibly amazing so far. Though I've never been a B/S fan, I like that they still have that connection with each other, that Spike could help her in a time like that. And the part with Angel walking in on them was classic. Please write more soon, 'cause I can't wait to see how it all turns out. ^_^

The thing I liked most about this chapter was that the preceding two had set me up for where I felt was the only place for the story to go, then did a 180 and shocked the hell out of me. I loved it! I agree with Violet about this chapter showing Buffy's growth in the way she handled the Angel/Nina scene. However, then we are quickly reminded of how hard change really is, how difficult it is to let go of what is "easy" for what is right, as the chapter ends. I also liked the subtle irony in Buffy's thoughts when she first sees Angel with Nina, "It was selfish…cocky" which resurfaces later, not in thoughts but in action, as she uses Spike (selfishly) and knows without doubt he'll be there (cocky) to ease her pain, unheeding the knowledge that it will probably only hurt him in the end. This chapter shows Buffy's growth intellectually, but emotionally and physically she finds comfort in reverting to old patterns. Who knows what will happen after this momentous kiss? All I know is that it will be vital to Buffy's character development. I can't wait to read more!

I loved the exposition regarding Buffy's feelings about herself and her relationships. You and I definitely think alike when it comes to this aspect of Buffy. The only thing I was unsure about was how her feelings about Spike were portrayed in this chapter after having read the preceding one. I guess I didn't get a clear sense that she was indeed past her romantic feelings for him…My favorite part: "Sometimes, she would sit at an outdoor cafe, and watch the world turn. Buffy had never been able to do that. She'd always been right in the thick of things, making sure the world kept turning. But she never really got to enjoy it." So truly Buffy.

First I want to say, and I am trying to put this in a way that doesn't sound like a criticism wrapped in a compliment…but I didn't know you had this in you. This story is wonderful and true to the buffyverse and each characterization thus far. I have read some of your other stuff and enjoyed it, but what I've read in the past were for the most part short fics that dealt with a small specified moment of time and theme. This is not bad, I enjoyed them. But now reading this and knowing you can write longer more devolved, integrated character pieces, will lead me to read some of your past work I have just come into contact with. It's a talented person who can write both effectively. You're use of flashbacks was done well. Most authors have trouble using this technique without confusing the reader. My favorite part: 'Seventy-six trombones pet' I got chills when he said it. I probably wouldn't have explained it through Buffy's flashback exposition, only 'cause I love the inside reference and figure if you don't get it…well then it's your (the reader's) loss (I'm so mean). But it definitely is an author's call, and doesn't ruin the moment.

Great chapter! I liked Buffy's thoughts about kissing Angel. I loved the way Buffy's reaction to the scene was to leave--I thought it showed how much her character has grown in the past few years. Years ago, she would have thrown a tempertantrum like she did when she found Angel with Faith. Those few paragraphs explained a ton about who Buffy is right now. The interaction between Buffy and Spike is wonderful. For a B/Aer, you sure write B/S very well. I also liked the way you used repetition and juxtaposition (the "held" passage, and esecially this line "the woman he had once tried to kill. Once tried to love") That was such a tragic line because it is so true. And the last line of the chapter was perfect!

I don't usually read these reflective fics, but I think you have done a really nice job with Buffy. I especially loved the following: "Buffy wondered if the reason she had never gotten her head around history while she was in school was because history was meant to be shown, not taught. Sometimes, she would sit at an outdoor cafe, and watch the world turn. Buffy had never been able to do that. She'd always been right in the thick of things, making sure the world kept turning.
