I liked this story. I especially liked seeing things from Mal's POV, but sometimes I thought you overdid his desire to protect the girls. After all, they're not part of his crew. I'm not saying he wouldn't want to help them, I'm just saying I think he would...be more quiet about it, maybe. Anyway, the friendship with Chao Ahn was a nice touch.

Author's Response: Mal knows that women and girls can take care of themselves. Afterall, two of his favorite people are River and Zoe. But I don't think that stops his protective streak. He wants everyone he cares about to be safe, and if he can play some part in that, than he will. That's my impression of Mal, anyway. Thanks for the review! Glad you liked it.
