Passion - Tuesday 24 February, 1998
I loved this episode. Lots of classic lines and passion. And obviously
lots of deliciously evil Angelus at his worst. David's sexy voice over had
me glued to my seat.
"Passion lies in all of us. Sleeping, waiting and though unwanted unbidden
it will stir, open it's jaw and howl."
It was so intense how Angelus was staring at Buffy in the Bronze and then
when he gently touched her as she slept. I melted! How much I miss my
sweet, tender Angel. I'm more convinced than ever that Angelus does still
love Buffy, but
he can only express it in a warped twisted way.
"It speaks to us. Guides us. Passion rules us all and we obey. What other
choice do we have?"
I think that Willow had one of the most insightful Angel lines. When Buffy
said that she couldn't believe how different Angel was now. Willow said,
"sort of . . . except you're still the only thing he thinks about." I was
glad
that someone remembered how
much Angel
loved Buffy. Everything he did to help and save her and her friends.
I also really liked the Angelus/Dru/Spike interaction. From Angelus's
comments and Dru’s reaction, I definitely think that Angel and Dru are
doing the deed, though it's just my opinion of course.
I couldn't believe that Angelus told Buffy's mom about them making love.
He is so malicious. I felt bad for Buffy when she had "the talk" with her
mother, but at least she acknowledged that she loved Angel. I was
beginning to think that this little fact had been forgotten. Joyce
now knowing
about Angel and Buffy and Angelus' erratic behavior is going to bring some
interesting conflict in the future when Angel's soul returns and Buffy
gets involved with him again.
I thought Jenny's death was wild, but I didn't
feel particularly sad. I just
thought, what a great plot device. Angelus taking Jenny back to Giles'
place
and setting up the romantic scene was cruel beyond cruel. I felt so sorry
for Giles when he saw that she was dead. He was lucky that he wasn't
charged with murder. I think it would be great if Giles is the one to
demand that Angel suffer by staying alive rather than killing himself when
his soul returns and he realizes the terrible things that he has done.
"Passion is the source of our finest moments; the joy of love, the clarity
of hatred and the ecstasy of grief."
I couldn't believe that Angelus went over to Buffy's place to see her
reaction to hearing about Jenny's death. Not only does he inflict pain,
he enjoys watching it. I must say that I did love his smile as he walked
away.
Xander's attitude towards Angelus is so obvious. Xander needs to be honest
and admit that the reason that he hated Angel in the first place because
he was jealous of Buffy's feelings for Angel. Angel never did anything to
Xander. He actually saved his life on a few occasions. Only now does
Xander
have a valid reason to hate Angel.
Giles going after Angel was pretty
cool. I
don't get how come it was so easy for Buffy beat Angel when the first time
they fought he held her off for a long time. When Buffy hit Giles and held
him as they both started to cry, it was so moving.
"It hurts sometimes more than we can bare. If we could live without
passion maybe we would know peace, but we would be hollow, shuttered,
dank. Without passion, we would truly be dead."
I didn't like Buffy giving up on Angel, but I understand. I really wish
she would at least make an effort like Jenny did to save him. Oh well, the
disk is still around. I can't wait to see how Joss wraps up this season.
However, we will have to wait until May which is really far off.
My poor Angel, poor Buffy. They have a long poignant and painful road back
to each other. Next season promises to be full of angst. David was simply
outstanding in this episode and deserves many kudos for his performance. I
was thoroughly impressed by his acting abilities
On one an absolutely shallow final note, I still think that those leather
pants are yummy!
