This is an announcement only mailing list (not a discussion list). The list is used to send notification of recent, substantial updates to the site (new episodes being posted, etc.), with links to the updated pages. You'll probably receive an email once a week or so -- possibly less, but rarely more often than that. The mailing list is free, and you can easily unsubscribe at any time should you wish to do so (every email comes with a quick unsubscribe link at the end).

Note that this is NOT a general BtVS newsletter — you'll receive updates about the site (which in turn has updates about the show). You won't receive spoilers or things of that sort.
