Now Shooting: Episode 19 (starts tomorrow)
Personal Notes
Congratulations
to Marti Noxon on her pregnancy!
Because
I am incredibly nosy, I am dying to know if Marti's due date is close
to mine (July 18). If an ME person is reading this and can ask Marti,
would you be so kind as to email me at ww1614@yahoo.com
with that info? It's easy to maintain your privacy--just create a new
Yahoo mail account at http://mail.yahoo.com,
then delete it or ignore it after you email me. To verify your identity,
you could tell me the real name of the creature who wants revenge on Anyanka,
according to the 1-17-02 White shooting script. Thanks!
And while I'm on the subject of babies...
It's a boy!
Or so the sonogram I had yesterday indicates.

In Episode 17 we'll see Buffy discovering something about herself by accident,
this will not sit well with the slayer. It's going to be a large stone
for her. She can either accept it or try to beat the rock down. Accepting
it will help her find her peace.
I know, I'm being cryptic, so shoot me
What she discovers will be good in the shipper's eyes...I think, you can't
always satisfy everyone.
About the unfortunate dicision that she makes it has nothing to do with
Spike.
Can't say anymore, sorry guys

I am not yet 100 sure of the source, so let me state that right away,
but I am going to post this anyway as it would tie in with the story/timeline.
It may heve been postsed here already anyways.
Joyce will be in episode 17.

I enjoy talking to the writers at these events perhaps more than anything
else because 1) they're less mobbed by everyone, and 2) they always have
some info on upcoming events. I talked to Jane Espenson, David Fury, Marti
Noxon, and Steve DeKnight. (I can never find Tim Minear and Joss is always
mobbed.)
Everyone confirmed that Joss would not be writing any more Buffy this
season, because he's busy on Firefly - in fact, he's working on the pilot
of Firefly right now, and has either already started filming or will be
very soon. As Marti Noxon said to me, Firefly is Joss's baby right now,
so he's putting a lot of work into it. Marti said she does expect Joss
to do at least one episode of Buffy next year (my guess would be, if next
year is the season finale, that Joss will do the last episode of Season
7 as his episode), but with Firefly and all the other work he does asME
head, one episode of Buffy and Angel was all he was doing this year. It's
disappointing, but I would think from now on we can only really expect
one Joss episode on either show per season. (Of course, we might see more
than that on Firefly.) At least Joss doesn't totally abandon his shows
when he gets a new one started like David E. Kelly, etc.
Jane said she was finished writing on Buffy this season - Doublemeat Palace
was her last episode this year. She expects to be writing some Firefly
episodes over the summer in addition to Buffy and said that she, for one,
is happy to have another show like Firefly in the Mutant Enemy fold because
there are so many Buffy staff writers now that it was hard to give everyone
enough episodes to write in a year. Now with three ME shows there'll be
more work for everyone.
David Fury said he hopes to direct again next season, but he's too busy
to direct this season (so now direction from David on the season finale).
As has been reported elsewhere, David is writing Episode 19 of Angel and
the season finale of Buffy. He said next year, he'll be splitting his
time between Buffy and Angel more. He'll still be co-executive producer
on Buffy, but will now also be a consulting producer on Angel (like Marti
Noxon). And he also expects to write a Firefly episode or two.
Marti Noxon was very nice to talk to (and pretty as well). She's a couple
of months pregnant and is very excited naturally about the baby. She said
because of that, she probably won't be doing anything with Firefly. I
would expect she'll also need some extra help with Buffy when her baby
comes as well (I think its probably due right around the beginning of
the Buffy/Angel shooting season in July), so perhaps David Fury will be
more Buffy than Angel at that point in time, but I forgot to ask her about
that.
I congratulated Steven DeKnight on "Dead Things", and he mentioned
that he's currently in the rewriting process on Episode 19 of this season
which starts filming at the end of this week (Feb. 22nd).

So Head's career is thriving, but will any new role keep his cool with
daughters Daisy, 11, and Emily? "I fly back out to LA soon to do
another couple of episodes of Buffy, but while I am cool now, there will
come a time when I am so desperately uncool, it will be painful

YES, S/B do have sex in AS YOU WERE.
This should be pretty reliable info as it comes from a CALL-SHEET I have.
To make you even happier, I'll add little bits from the "INSERT UNIT"
call-sheet:

Okay, here's a little something that a contact sent me after meeting
some of the Mutant Enemy VIPs on Saturday. Most of the stuff I got are
for Ats, but...
Meanwhile, back in Sunnydale, the Buffy/Spike relationship continues,
to the dismay of many.
Please don't read too much into it, as its very vague.
Join me in the Crypt of Decryption:
We're in the middle of a spoiler drought, so spoilers are few and far
between. Anthony Stewart Head confirmed his return to BtVS this season.
The Posting Board Party provided some additional information on the remaining
writers. I think we can safely speculate that because Jane Espenson and
Joss Whedon aren't writing any more this season, and David Fury and Marti
Noxon are doing the finale, then Rebecca Rand Kirshner is probably due
to write Episode 20.
Information on episodes 17 and 18 (which ended filming today) is scanty,
but Partyman is reporting that episode 17 is an AU episode that Joyce
is also appearing in. I really do think we're seeing the return of the
episode Herc alluded to in his July 4
spoilers, where Buffy doesn't know the difference between what's real
and what's not. This episode seems to have been rescheduled.
And though I rarely make personal observations/evaluations here, I can't
resist. Watching Life Serial and All the Way again last night was, dare
I say, a "bloody revelation." These episodes airing now really
point out the remarkable shift in the portrayal of the Spike/Buffy relationship.
It's a bit shocking that at the beginning of Dead Things, Spike asks,
unbelievingly, if they are having a conversation. Looks to me in Life
Serial and All the Way that they used to have plenty of conversations.
I know the
writers and some viewers will disagree with me, but there is such a shift
in tone between episode 8 and episode 9. It is very clear that the original
planned arc was changed. I am sure that, as Drew Greenberg said on TWOP
a few weeks ago, the characters are all going in the directions originally
planned. But it seems the way the writers are getting them there has changed.
If this Buffy insanity story was originally planned to air after Tabula
Rasa, and it's not airing in episode 17, then maybe we need to consider
that other planned storylines were deferred to the final third of the
season as well. Yes, I am talking about the possible Big
Scooby Death. I retracted, but that doesn't change the fact that at
least two other spoiler disseminators heard about it from two totally
different sources.
My Star Wars/Gone with the Wind Theory
Reddygirl
and I were chatting this morning, and she brought up the parallel between
Han and Leia and Spike and Buffy. I went searching around the web for
the exchange between Han and Leia that she mentioned and found this site:
http://members.dencity.com/aryn/misc.html
This site sees striking parallels between Han and Leia and Rhett and Scarlett
from Gone with the Wind, documented in the very similar dialogue. Well,
the dialogue referenced is also similar to that of Spike and Buffy:
From Dead
Things (transcript by Joan the English Chick for Psyche):
SPIKE: Do
you even like me?
Beat. Buffy stares at Spike. He just waits.
BUFFY: (softly) Sometimes. (looks away)
From Gone (transcript by Joan the English Chick for Psyche):
BUFFY: Lame.
SPIKE: What?
BUFFY: You. Making up excuses. (goes back to the sink)
SPIKE: Oh, don't flatter yourself, luv. (walking toward her) Bloody fond
of that lighter.
Buffy turns away from the sink, glares at him.
BUFFY: Stop trying to see me. And stop calling me that.
SPIKE: (walks over to her) So, um ... what should I call you then? Pet?
Buffy just looks at him as he leans right up in her face.
SPIKE: (grinning) Sweetheart? My, uh ... (fondling a piece of her hair)
little goldilocks?
He toys with her hair for a moment with one hand, then the other.
SPIKE: You know I love this hair. The way it bounces around when you-
Buffy suddenly lifts her hand out of the sink, holding a spatula on trajectory
toward Spike's face, but he grabs her wrist and stops it.
SPIKE: Ah-ah-ah! This flapjack's not ready to be flipped.
His other hand is on her shoulder and now drops down out of shot.
BUFFY: What the hell is that supposed to-
Buffy breaks off with a small sigh of pleasure, closing her eyes.
BUFFY: (whispers) Stop that.
Spike looks downward, but we still can't see what his hand is doing.
There have been several comments from people within ME (Greenwalt, Greenberg,
to name a few) comparing Buffy and Spike to famous television couples
such as Sam and Diane (Cheers) and David and Maddie (Moonlighting). Well,
they rejected those comparisons in favor of one of the most famous pairings
in scifi history: Han Solo and Princess Leia, from the Star Wars trilogy.
The ultimate coupling of bad boy rogue and good girl heroine, Han and
Leia lit up the screen and took attention away from the central story
of Luke's battle with the evil Empire. Yet there is also a connection
to Gone with the Wind. As the author of the above web site astutely points
out, there are clear textual parallels between the writing of Han and
Leia and that of Rhett and Scarlett. In addition, Gone with the Wind is
specifically referenced at the beginning of Tabula Rasa:
From Tabula Rasa (transcript by Joan the English Chick for Psyche):
SPIKE: We
kissed, Buffy.
BUFFY: So?
She resumes walking. Spike follows, a few feet behind.
SPIKE: We ... we kissed, you and me. All Gone With The Wind, with the
rising music, and the rising ... music, and what was that, Buffy?
Where am I going with this? Not very far right now. But I think it points
out very clearly that despite the upcoming events of episode 15 and 16
(Buffy breaking up with Spike), this relationship is far from over. I
wouldn't be surprised to see the season end in one of two ways:
1. Spike
is taken away to be imprisoned because of his gambling debts, as Han was
taken away by bounty hunter Boba Fett because of his gambling debts:
From Smashed (transcript by Joan the English Chick for Psyche):
WARREN:
What are, wait, what are you doing?
Spike picks up the Boba Fett action figure, removing it from its display
stand.
SPIKE: Examine my chip, or else Mister... (looks at the label on the stand)
...Fett here is the first to die.
Spike holds the action figure in one hand and takes its head in the other
hand as if he's going to pull the head off. The geeks are extremely nervous.
JONATHAN: Hey, all right, let's not, let's not do anything crazy here.
ANDREW: That's a limited edition, 1979 mint condition Boba Fett.
Spike grins, pretends to pull the head off.
WARREN: All right, dude ... chill. You can still make it right. You know
you don't wanna do this.
SPIKE: What I want ... is answers, nimrod.
WARREN: Right. But you don't
wanna hurt the Fett, 'cause man, you're *not* comin' back from that. You
know, you don't just do that and walk away.
or
2. Spike
says, "Frankly, pet, I don't give a damn," as he walks away
from a Buffy who has just realized her feelings for him.
Whatever the case, it leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger over the summer!
