As Buffy tries to decide what to do with her life, the Troika plans a series of tests for the Slayer that wreaks havoc with her attempts to return to college, work in construction, and work at the Magic Box. After her dismal failures, Buffy gets drunk with Spike, who takes her to a demon bar to play poker and perhaps learn who is harassing her. When Spike fails to "fix her life," an overwhelmed Buffy turns to Giles for help. Giles, despite his unease at Buffy's growing dependence upon him, offers a gift of money.
