Legolas found himself in what seemed to be a library, the portal closing up behind him. He had been holding tightly on to Willow’s hand and now she smiled at him reassuringly, slinging her bag down and accepting hugs from Xander and Giles. It had not been more than 2 days for them but it had been a lifetime for her and sometimes Legolas underestimated how much Willow had missed her home, despite loving Middle Earth, despite loving him. She moved to stand by his side now, their hands finding each other again and introduced him. He nodded to both Giles and Xander who surveyed him with passing interest but were far more focused on the problem in hand. Giles explained in rapid English what had happened.

They had suspected Faith of working for the other side and had set up a trap to catch her out but also to find out what she knew. Faith had a thing for Angel and knew that the Mayor would want Angelus on his side and set out to accomplish this. Knowing that Angel loved only Buffy and would never really achieve true happiness with Faith, a demon had been engaged to remove Angel’s soul, becoming Angelus again. Here the story became clouded and confused, and Legolas, unable to keep up with all the names, moved away from Willow to wander around the library. Willow listened as the full horror emerged. The demon the Mayor had engaged had come to Giles, knowing him from the past, and told him what he had been asked to do. Giles had asked him to go along with the Mayor’s demands but not to cast the spell but just to chant and put on a impressive light show. Angel and Buffy were in the know and it all seemed to be going according to plan, until the Mayor, somehow, found out that the demon had not done the job properly and had found someone else to do it.

"Leaving us with an injured Slayer, an insanely angry vampire and a Mayor who seems to know our every move." Willow finished off. She watched Legolas head towards the weapons cabinet, curious about what it contained.

"So you want me to do the re-souling spell and hope that we’re in time before he does any more damage?"

"That’s pretty much the size of it."

"You look like you’ve already seen some action" Willow commented taking in their injuries.

Xander explained that they had gone into to save Buffy and had a hell of time getting out again. Faith had been ready for them and it had taken both of them to distract her while Oz had freed Buffy and taken her to the hospital. Legolas listened from across the room. He was well aware of Willow’s past, who figured in it and how she felt about them. She was so open with her feelings and now he felt a moment of disquiet when he heard Oz’s name mentioned. Willow turned to him as he glanced round at her and gave him a smile and the feeling faded.

"There is nothing to worry about" she told him silently "Did I not choose my life with you?"

Legolas gave her a smile back, reassured by this. Xander and Giles watched the two of them for a moment before Giles touched Willow’s hand, bringing her back to the present.

"Giles, it’s been fo.. a really long time since I did any magic. I didn’t have any powers in Middle Earth. It’s going to take a while for me to get back into the swing of it."

"Try something" urged Xander. He held a pencil up at her. She took it from him, laying it flat in her hand and concentrated on it. To her surprise and pleasure it flew straight up into the air and hung there, unmoving.

"You haven’t lost your edge Wil" Xander put his arm around her and gave her a quick squeeze. Willow was confused, her magic had not been this strong before she left, why was it so now? Not that it mattered. She lifted the pencil out of the air and set it back down on the table before turning to Giles.

"Didn’t you write the spell down in your diaries?" she questioned "We should just be able to use that spell and the orb of Thessula to do the spell. All we really need is somewhere safe to do it." Giles handed her the diary in which he had detailed the spell and everything they had used before.

"A’mael" Legolas spoke rapidly in elvish "Do you not need to rest before you do this magic?"

"I’ll be fine Legolas, I just need to go through this and know what I’m doing." Willow switched to English and spoke to Giles "How was it I was able to feel when Buffy was injured?"

"I believe it was Angel you were feeling Willow. Your restoration of his soul the last time has linked you both inexorably together and I believe that it was his soul being ripped away that caused you such distress." Giles took his glasses off and cleaned them absent mindedly.

Willow bit her lip "I didn’t realise that would happen. Is it going to be worse this time?"

"Very possibly I’m afraid."

There was silence for a moment and then Legolas broke it with a quiet question.

“I do not pretend to understand what is happening here but why can we not just kill Angel?”

“Because if anyone is going to kill him, its going to be me.”

A new voice joined the conversation and they all turned to see Buffy Summers standing in the doorway. Her wounds had been patched up and there was a nasty bruise down the side of her face. She looked pale beneath her Californian tan. She stood, leaning on a younger man, whose gaze went straight to Willow. Legolas knew in a second who this was. Oz.

“Buffy, you shouldn’t be here.” Giles hurried forward and took her arm, easing her into a chair. Willow knelt on the floor beside her and accepted the close hug Buffy gave her. Willow stroked her fingers over the bruises inflicted by Angelus and sighed.

“I’m fine. Just need to rest for a while before we re-group.”

“There will be no re-grouping” Xander said sternly “Wil’s going to do the spell and if that doesn’t work, we’re going to dust him.”

The argument faded into the background as Willow moved way from her bickering friends and stood opposite Oz.

God, he thought, how she had changed. The rich red hair was now braided back from her face, in a similar fashion to the man next to her. She had peace in her eyes but the power of her smile hadn’t changed and when that smile was revealed, it lit her eyes up. He longed to see the love in her smile but could tell it had gone. She was pleased to see him, nothing more than that. He longed to take her in his arms, to hear her babble mindlessly about life but this calm serene woman that stood before him was unfamiliar.

“Oz” she said “its good to see you”

“You’re looking good Wil” he said “Has it really been forty years?”

“Only for us” she laughed…. ‘us’ he noted. Him and Me, Legolas and Willow. For her a lifetime had passed and yet she looked almost exactly the same as she had done three days ago.

She flung herself into his arms and hugged him tightly before releasing him and smiling embarrassedly. Oz nodded at Legolas.

“He’s a good man?”

“Elf. And yes, he is.”

“He better be. You left me for him” Oz had said all he needed to say and now turned to the others who were still arguing quietly. Willow stood staring into the distance, hurt written all over her face. Legolas took her hand and kissed her fingertips, bringing her back to reality. She gave him a small smile and moved away from the group to pick up the book again and start reading.

“Why are we even bothering to do the spell when we’re going to kill him?” Xander asked

“Because we’re not going to kill him” Buffy insisted. “Only if the spell goes wrong do we kill him. And there’s no we happening here. It’s just me. I’ll go in alone. I won’t risk any of you.”

“You’re not strong enough, Buffy. I’m coming with you” Xander insisted. She shrugged gracefully.

“Whatever.”

“I can do the spell now” Willow said, cutting across any more argument. “I can do it now and get this over and done with. Legolas and I have our lives somewhere else now.”

“We need some sort of plan” said Giles beckoning everyone over to the table “we can assume that Angelus is aware of what we’re going to do so he’ll probably try and hit us before we can hit him. We need to be well prepared”

*An Hour Later*

Willow knelt on the floor, surrounding the Orb of Thessula with candles and then creating a sacred circle. She handed a small bundle of herbs and some incense to Oz who took up his position on one side of her and handed a Latin book to Giles to stood opposite Oz. Willow lifted up the diary in one hand and with the other, cast some pale stones into the sacred circle. Oz began to wave the herbs and incense and Giles and Willow began chanting.

Giles intoned quietly “Quod perditum est, invenietur”

And Willow followed with her spell “Not dead... nor not of the living. Spirits of the interregnum, I call.”

Legolas glanced up as he heard a noise and drew his bow. Buffy and Xander, trusting the elf’s excellent hearing, picked up their weapons. Legolas spared a look for Willow her eyes closed now, remembering the spell that she had worked so hard on. She looked weak, struggling to speak and Legolas longed to take her in his arms and out of this hellish place but this was something she wanted to do.

She had explained it to him as they were setting the spell up. He had known it was right to follow the Fellowship and had been prepared to do so to the very end. This was her quest, the thing that she could do. Legolas had not seen Angelus, did not know the damage and pain he could inflict on others.

The doors to the library burst open and a tall handsome man sauntered in followed by a dark haired arrogant looking woman and a group of vampires. Legolas, Buffy and Xander took up their positions around Willow, Giles and Oz, each protecting one of them. Willow’s quiet chanting stopped for a moment and her head snapped back.

“Wil?” Xander said cautiously.

“She did this last time” Oz whispered “it’s cool.”

Willow’s head fell back down again and her eyes stared into the Orb. She began to chant steadily in Rumanian as though possessed.

“Te implor, Doamne, nu ignora aceasta rugaminte. Nici mort, nici al fiintei...Lasa orbita sa fie vasul care-i va transporta, sufletul la el.”

“Well well, looks like the Buffster got some help from somewhere. Willow back is she? Always knew I should have killed the little witch first.” Angelus’ mocking tones filled the library.“Boys …”

He gestured towards the three warriors and then stopped in his tracks, silenced by an arrow protruding from his chest. It was joined by three more and he fell to his knees. Legolas drew another two, shooting them both together, dusting the two vamps either side of Angelus.

“Holy hell” whispered Xander in awe. Buffy waded into the battle, finding herself face to face with Faith, trading lightening blows. Xander found himself doing the most damage with the holy water bombs they had prepared. He distracted them and Legolas shot them, his normal arrows points replaced with wood points for this purpose.

From amongst the sound of battle, Willow’s voice rose. “Asa sa fie! Asa sa fie! Acum! Acum!” “It is done”.
