Life's a Bitch: 6

by Ksue

"Hey Buffy," Spike said, swaggering through the doors of the diner Saturday morning.
"Hi. Coffee?" Buffy asked, pouring a cup and moving around to sit next to Spike at the counter.
"Yeah. Get much sleep last night?" Spike asked, looking over Buffy. She looked tired, bags under her eyes, hair matted.
"Next to none. I had an hour before I had to be here, so I slept for about forty five minutes." Buffy shrugged. She grabbed Spike's coffee mug and took a long sip.
"Angel keep you up all night?" Spike asked, disdain filling his voice. He took out a lighter and a cigarette, taking a long drag.
"Not that way, you sick bastard," Buffy smiled, punching Spike's arm.
"Ow," Spike said, rubbing his arm.
"Oh stop being such a baby. No smoking," Buffy said, taking the cigarette from Spike's mouth and snuffing it out in the ash tray.
"Then why do you have ash trays?" Spike asked.
"It's my policy, not Mel's. YOU cannot smoke in my presence," Buffy explained.
"Please?" Spike begged, jutting out his lower lip.
"No. It'll kill you." Buffy said. Spike shrugged but quickly turned serious.
"What? You have a definent something face," Buffy asked, looking concerned.
"It's Angel. He's not good for you," Spike sighed, knowing Buffy would not like this.
"What?" Buffy asked.
"He likes to take good girls and break their hearts. That's what drove Dru so crazy," Spike explained, hoping Buffy wasn't too mad.
"He drove Drusilla crazy? Dru was crazy long before he got to her. Spike, from now on, I don't want to hear your comments on my love life. Get out of my diner," Buffy spat, pointing towards the door.

"Hey Buffy," Angel said, coming into the diner a little while later.
"Hi honey," Buffy said, taking off her apron.
"You ready to go get your mom?" Angel asked, offering Buffy his arm.
"Yeah. Are you sure you want to come?" Buffy asked. She wasn't sure he was ready for a sober Mrs. Summers.
"Totally. I want to meet your mom when she's not wishing you were dead," Angel said, laughing slightly.
"All right."

A few minutes later Buffy walked into the police station and found her mother sittnig on the bench.
"Mom?" Buffy asked, moving around to see her.
"Buffy! Oh, I'm so glad you're alright!" Joyce cried, hugging her daughter tightly.
"Why wouldn't I be?" Buffy asked, hugging her mother back.
"Well, I just thought that when I woke up here it was because something happened to you," Joyce said, brushing a piece of hair from Buffy's face.
"I just couldn't help you last night," Buffy sighed, feeling guilty.
"Oh, it's alright. Who's this?" Joyce asked, eying Angel.
"This is Angel. My boyfriend," Buffy said, introducing them.
"Nice to meet you Mrs. Summers." Angel extended his hand and kissed Joyce's knuckles.
"Are you being good to my daughter?" Joyce asked, raising her eyebrow.
"Yes ma'am." Angel nodded.
"Well, why don't you two go out. I can make my home home just fine," Joyce suggested.
"Are you sure?" Buffy asked, not wanting to leave her mother alone.
"Yes. Go," Joyce urged. Angel and Buffy drove to his house in silence.
"My parents are gone for the weekend. Some benefit in Mexico," Angel said casually.
"Really?" Buffy asked, feeling nervous.
"Yep." Angel said. He got out of the car and opened Buffy's door. She stood up and kissed him deeply. Angel scooped her up in his arms and they stumbled towards the door, their kisses growing more passionate.
"Buffy..."Angel gasped, partially breaking away from Buffy's mouth.
"Shh. Just kiss me," Buffy gasped, grabbing him and pulling his face closer to hers.
"We're going upstairs," Angel muttered between kisses. He carried Buffy up the stairs and into his bedroom.
"Are you sure?" Angel asked, laying Buffy on his bed.
"Yes," Buffy said.
